Jane Lamont – Beith Community Development Trust Background 2009 • Beith Juniors Community FC - 15 youth teams, 35 volunteer coaches • Beith Amateurs & Beith Juniors FC • Local facilities derelict, closed, unsafe, not fit for purpose 2010 • BJCFC commission a feasibility study into the community ownership of sports facilities • 30k pa identified as spent outside of Beith in order to sustain the activities of BJCFC • Recommendation – establish Community Development Trust with charitable status 2011 • 280k commited towards the renovation of Beith Astro, 2012 • March - Beith Astro opens under community control • April – Beith Development Trust awarded 150k by CCF for the Big Swap Project THE CLIMATE CHALLENGE FUND (CCF) IS A SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT PROGRAMME WHICH PROVIDES FUNDING FOR COMMUNITY GROUPS THAT ARE TACKLING CLIMATE CHANGE THROUGH COMMUNITY-LED PROJECTS. • KIT WASH • KIT SWAP • TRAVEL SWAP The Project Stats • Laundry – 587 x 21kg loads laundry(airdried) = 2.1 tonnes CO2 emissions saved • Kitswap – 1161kg kit diverted from landfill = 2.5 tonnes Co2 emissions saved • Legacy – New ways of working within Beith Juniors & associated teams • • • • • Ayr United Community Academy Glenburn Miners Welfare, Linwood Rangers St Convils Blantryre Soccer Academy Thanks – Any questions?
