Wendy Hoffman and Celia Canfield "reporting" from KSVY Presidents' Letter Quick Calendar Recently Wendy and I were asked to be on Helaine Forte's aptly named "Only the Good News" radio show on KSVY. Helaine likes to feature the work of Sonoma Valley's nonprofits, and apparently Impact100 Sonoma kept being mentioned by her guests. So she invited us to spend an hour talking with her about the organization. April 6 - Community Café Coffee. Members only. 9:00-10:30 am. Proudly, we mentioned that in its first six years Impact100 Sonoma has awarded 54 grants to 30 nonprofits and given out $1,192,000--certainly good news for the many nonprofits that work tirelessly to serve our community. This year, we are poised to give away $276,000 and are diligently reviewing proposals to bring to our 276 members for their vote. On May 21st, we will be announcing the 2016 recipients in a redesigned awards ceremony that is being created to celebrate the awardees and raise a toast to the members who made it possible for them to receive grants. 2 of 7 April 14 - Spotlight Series: Travel Talk Soiree. We're proud that 94% of them give to nonprofits beyond what they do with Impact100 and more than half of them volunteer their time with one or more nonprofits. A whopping 70% of our members have served on a nonprofit board. May 21 - Impact100 Sonoma Grants Awards & Celebration. Members and guests. 2:00-4:30 pm. Hanna Boys Center. Three Important Steps for Members: Meet, Vote, Celebrate Meet the nonprofits Vote online Celebrate the results More than 90 of Impact100 Sonoma members are currently reviewing proposals and attending site visits in order to present the membership with a list of finalists for the 2016 Impact and Community Grants. In May, it will be up to the membership as a whole to determine the grant recipients. MEET: On May 7th, representatives from each of the grant finalists will make a brief, informal presentation to the Impact100 Sonoma membership. This will be an important way to become better informed about their proposed programs and how they will impact Sonoma Valley. A members-only event: Meet the Finalists, May 7, 4 of 7 4/1/16 8:28 AM April Newsletter https://ui.constantcontact.com/visualeditor/visual_editor_preview.jsp?agent.uid=1124... 10:00 am- 12:00 noon at the Vintage House. Rave Reviews for New Spotlight Series Impact100 Sonoma's new Spotlight Series started Sunday, March 20, with a spectacular kick-off at Natasha Martin's home. Natasha, along with her granddaughter Somaya and friend Saya (shown left), hosted the salon in her living room in front of a warm fire on a rainy afternoon. Members enjoyed learning of her experiences in Kenya helping orphans to be able to attend school. This was made possible through a nonprofit organization that Natasha initiated--the Grassroots Alliance for Community Education 5 of 7 4/1/16 8:28 AM April Newsletter https://ui.constantcontact.com/visualeditor/visual_editor_preview.jsp?agent.uid=1124... (G.R.A.C.E.). To read more about the event, click HERE. Next in the Spotlight Series will be A Travel Talk Soiree at the home of Jean Behse on April 14, 5:30-7:30 pm. What you appreciated was someone who took you under their wing and became your guide or buddy--someone who introduced you to others, answered your questions, and shared their institutional knowledge. With new members joining Impact100 Sonoma throughout the year, we would like to help make their onboarding process easier. If you are interested in helping to orient a new member, your role would be to give the new member a welcoming call to Impact, attend an event with her, introduce her to others, and be her go-to person to answer questions. If this sounds like something you would like to do, please contact Gera Vaz, Membership Chair, at membership@impact100sonoma.org. 6 of 7 4/1/16 8:28 AM April Newsletter https://ui.constantcontact.com/visualeditor/visual_editor_preview.jsp?agent.uid=1124... © 2014 Impact 100 Sonoma.
