Dear Members and Colleagues,
Make plans now to join us for our annual WBA Bankers Convention, taking place
June 20-22 at The Davenport Hotel in Spokane.
This year marks a significant evolution for both our Association and the event, as we
celebrate our official union with the Washington Financial League. Together, we have
united to create a larger and stronger organization working on your behalf.
To that end, we look forward to delivering a best-in-class educational event, with
opportunities for you to connect with colleagues and engage in fun group and family
activities.
Our robust three-day program is specifically designed for bank presidents, executive
management, bank directors, correspondent bankers and fast-track young bankers.
Come ready to learn the latest on timely topics as well as important state and federal
issues such as the driving forces behind the ‘trends and bends’ occurring in today’s
economy.

“I always find the WBA Annual
Convention to be worth my time both in
terms of the quality of the speakers and

to come away from the convention every
year with great ideas and renewed faith
that the community bank business model
is not only still viable but also still needed
in America today.”

I expect, balancing presentation of key
industry issues with global topics of

numerous opportunities to network with
fellow bankers and associates, you have a
comprehensive once-a-year event that

Agenda at a Glance
Let’s Get Banking and America Going Again
William M. Isaac, Former Chairman of the FDIC, Global Head of
Financial Institutions, FTI Consulting, Sarasota, FLA
William Isaac, who led the FDIC during the banking and S&L crises
of the 1980s, is an outspoken critic of the manner in which the
government handled the financial crisis of 2008-2009 and strongly
opposed the TARP legislation. He is also deeply concerned about
current fiscal, monetary and regulatory policies and the adverse
effect they are having on the economy. He will share his insights on
the state of the banking industry, the political leadership chasm in
Washington, D.C., and what the future may hold in terms of fiscal,
monetary and regulatory policies.

Basel III - What Community Bankers Need to Know
Jay Brew, Co-Chairman, Seifried & Brew, Bethelham, PA
The continuing saga of Basel III and its impact on community banks
has developed into a struggle between regulators and Congress. Jay
Brew has been openly opposed to Basel III since its inception through
webcasts, articles, speeches and interviews. Brew has also assisted
members of Congress to get “their arms around” why Basel III will
hinder community banks serving their communities. Besides relating
updates on Basel III, Brew will present Basel III in context to each
attendee with the S&B Performance Risk Essentials report that
is customized with each bank’s data.
Recovering from the Recovery: U.S. and Regional Economies
Dr. Chris Thornberg, Founding Partner, Beacon Economics, Los
Angeles, CA
Chris Thornberg will present a comprehensive economic forecast for
the U.S. and regional economies. The discussion will focus on the
state of the current economic recovery and attendees will gain insight
into the direction the economy will take over the near and long-term
future. Thornberg will present a thorough analysis of key economic
indicators such as employment/unemployment, consumer spending,
housing markets, bankruptcies, business activity, personal income,
international trade, and GDP growth. The presentation will include a
discussion about the potential risks still facing the economy including
the European debt crisis and the Federal deficit. Attendees will also
learn about many of the driving forces behind the ‘trends and bends’
occurring in today’s economy.
How to Bank on Staying Motivated on the Deck of the Titanic
Norm Bossio, Consultant, Norm Bossio Enterprises, Lakeville, MA
This session will explore and discuss the unique frustrations, stressors,
and opportunities inherent in the current banking industry. Useful
and practical coping mechanisms will be presented within the context
of the demands of balancing personal lives and working in the
banking environment. The roles of humor, family support systems,
expectations, customer service, personality types, and the on-going
nature of work demands will be discussed in an anecdotal manner. A
prerequisite of this presentation will be a sense of humor. WARNING:
This closing keynote may hit very close to home.
