Reading kids explore, escape, learn and succeed. And summer is the perfect time for children and teens to read just for the fun of it, making reading an enjoyable and stress-free pastime. We look forward to seeing you and helping you make summer reading fun! For children birth—entering 6th grade The Library’s Summer Reading program—“Every Hero Has a Story”--starts on Monday, June 22! As in years past, you’ll keep track of the time you spend reading throughout the month of July and earn cool prizes. For teens entering 7th grade—12th grade The Teen Summer Reading Program—”Unmask!”— will run from Monday, June 1st until Friday, August 7th. Participation is easy: For every simple book review you write, you’ll be entered in a raffle to win an Amazon gift card provided by the Friends of the Library! Art Raymond Artist Talk and Reception Malverne Movies Please join us every Monday at 2 pm and selected Thursdays at 2 pm for an enjoyable film. Program Saturday, June 13, 3:00 pm-4:00 pm Watercolor artist Art Raymond will talk about his work, how he chooses a subject, painting techniques, and his development as an artist. Along with his many awards, Art was recently named a Fellow of the American Artists Professional League and his painting Peggy's Cove won the John Collin's Memorial Award in their Grand National Exhibition in New York City. Refreshments will be served. To find out more information, contact Cathy (516) 599-0750 From the Children’s Room Nature Nick’s Animal Adventures Greek Pottery and Story Telling Tuesday, June 23; 3:30-4:30 pm For kids, teens and adults of all ages. Wednesday, July 8; 2:00-3:00 pm For kids entering K-5th grade. To kick off the summer fun, we present Amazing Animal Adventures with Nick Jacinto. Nick will introduce us to several animal heroes. During this show, you’ll also discover more about animal habits and what makes some critters so special. We might even get to meet a kangaroo! Some of our very first heroes were those of Greek mythology. Come learn about ancient Greek myths and find out how these famous stories were told. Then, transform yourself into a Greek god or goddess and paint your story on individual pots to take home. No registration necessary. Registration begins June 10. Chalk Walk! Pre-K Storytime Monday, June 29 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Tuesdays, July 7 and 21; 10:30-11:15 am For children 3 to 5 years old. Unleash your inner artist and help beautify the space outside the Library. Help us decorate the sidewalk on both St. Thomas Place and Lindner Avenue. We’ll provide the chalk and other materials, you supply the inspiration! Join us for two storytime sessions just for preschoolers this July. We’ll read books, sing songs, learn new things, and create a fun craft. It is through the generous donations from the Friends that children and teens are able to take part in the wonderful events provided with the 2015 Summer Reading Club.
