WELCOME TO THE KINGDOM WORKERS FAMILY!
“How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they
believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without
someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As
it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
Romans 10:14-15
May this Kingdom Workers mission trip be the next step in a journey where your
feet take you to a new place to meet new people and build new relationships to
share the message of God’s love through his Son, Jesus.
We pray that the mission trip that you will soon be going on isn’t just a one-time
experience. Our hope is that this will lead to new opportunities for you to be involved in outreach in your own community. There are people in other countries and
next door who don’t have the hope of eternal life in heaven. May God use us all as
seed-planters of his message of salvation.
God’s blessings as you prepare for your Kingdom Workers mission trip!
Sincerely,

MISSION STATEMENT, PURPOSE, VISION

Mission Statement
Kingdom Workers will proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, using volunteers in mission fields, in partnership with ministries of
our fellowship.
Mission Purpose
Kingdom Workers mission is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with all people in a number of ways. Kingdom Workers works
with individual members, ministries, congregations, and church bodies in doctrinal fellowship with the Wisconsin Evangelical
Lutheran Synod; in cooperation and collaboration with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod mission divisions. Kingdom
Workers also heightens awareness among individual members and congregations regarding mission and outreach ministry needs
and opportunities. Another main task includes coordinating lay efforts and volunteer efforts in mission fields, as well as promoting and providing support for ministry projects in which Kingdom Workers is a partner.
Vision
In 2017 the name Kingdom Workers is synonymous with gospel-motivated global action. The community of people and organizations proud to be included under this moniker comprises donors, supporters, current and past volunteers, foundation
representatives, *Confessional Evangelical Lutheran Conference (CELC) leaders – all of diverse ages, nationalities, backgrounds,
experience, and gifts. Coming to Kingdom Workers due to its history of impactful, well-planned, and efficient mission programs,
this team of people and organizations retains a closeness – enjoying the fellowship, spiritual growth, and change God has worked
within their personal lives.
As a result, Kingdom Workers is the leading organization for connecting people, ideas, and resources to mission fields and
churches with expressed spiritual and physical needs. All this is done to the glory of God, compelled by the Great Commission.
*CELC membership includes Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod & Evangelical Lutheran Synod.

KINGDOM WORKERS MINISTRIES
Member ministry is the foundation for Kingdom Workers. Our focus is on equipping, strengthening, and utilizing Christians
throughout the world to exercise their responsibility as the “royal priesthood” (1 Peter 2:9). Through our three ministries,
we faithfully assist called workers, congregations, and Lutheran church bodies with empowering members to carry out their
personal Christian ministry. Each ministry of Kingdom Workers plays a unique role.
BUILDERS FOR CHRIST uses members skilled in construction to build
houses of worship, schools, or other ministry structures for existing and new
congregations. Your volunteer service helps reduce costs, provides places
for believers to worship their Lord, enables children to grow in their faith, and
encourages gospel proclamation.

Builders For Christ volunteers leave an impact on the congregations they serve.
They actively participate in community outreach and evangelism. They also
bring a culture of service to the congregation.
FAITH IN ACTION  Each year, mission-minded Christians assist ministries
around the world. Opportunities for families, teens, college students, mid-career
professionals and retirees open doors to actively serve as disciples of Christ and
build relationships that will last into eternity. Kingdom Workers volunteers help
with a variety of mission projects identified by local congregations and ministries
throughout the United States and around the world. These projects can include
canvassing, vacation Bible school, sports Bible camps, teaching English as a
Foreign Language, evangelism assistance and more! There are opportunities to
serve from one week to one year. Locations include the United States, Canada,
Malawi, Chile, Grenada, Zambia and the Apache Lutheran Mission.

LUTHERAN HEALTH ALLIANCE engages health professionals who serve
alongside national and community-based health workers to address common
health issues. Projects are focused on improving health, developing crosscultural learning, and sharing the gospel message.
Christians compelled by the love of Christ, to show love and respect for
individuals and families living in impoverished conditions by empowering
through listening, learning, and serving with humility, compassion, and
discernment.

KINGDOM WORKERS VOLUNTEER PHILOSOPHY

“Let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.”
I John 3:18
THE IMPORTANCE OF VOLUNTEERS
Kingdom Workers volunteer involvement is a crucial part of Kingdom Workers vision as a whole.  In today’s world a Christian’s
mission field is all around us - in our home, right outside our front door, and around the world - and each of us has been given
different gifts to serve God in every aspect of our lives.

Kingdom Workers volunteers use their time, talents, and resources to reach people with the gospel and to inspire others to use
their gifts to serve.

Our volunteers are members of the Kingdom Workers family. Volunteers will:
connect with their family in Christ in member-ministry*
provide support and skills needed for mission projects
help their congregation, family, and friends become more aware of mission opportunities through Kingdom Workers

Kingdom Workers volunteers are shining lights in the darkness and are a blessing to our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ as
they share the message of salvation. God’s Word is powerful and will make an eternal impact on the hearts of people who have
been reached with the gospel. We are all God’s messengers! Thank you for serving!

 *What is Member Ministry?
Member ministry is the foundation for Kingdom Workers. Our focus is on equipping, strengthening, and utilizing Christians throughout the world to exercise their responsibility as the “royal
priesthood” (1 Peter 2:9). Through our three ministries, we faithfully assist called workers, congregations, and Lutheran church bodies with empowering members to carry out their personal
Christian ministry.

“Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us”
2 Corinthians 5:20

KINGDOM WORKERS VOLUNTEER FAQS
1) Who can volunteer and at what age?
Christians of all ages who are members of the Confessional Evangelical Lutheran Conference (CELC) - of which the WELS and
ELS are members.
An adult chaperone is required for a team or individual under the age of 18 years old
TRAVEL
2) If an airline ticket is purchased and the volunteer needs to cancel, who is responsible for that cost?
TICKETS FOR TRIPS WITHIN THE U.S. AND CANADA - Non-refundable: Volunteers must cover the cost of the ticket
TICKETS FOR TRIPS OUTSIDE THE U.S. AND CANADA - Refundable: Volunteers must cover the cost of cancelling the ticket
(~$300) (In rare cases, tickets are non-refundable.)
If a volunteer chooses to change their travel plans, then they are responsible for the change fee.
If a volunteer needs to switch to a different mission trip, they are responsible for the cost of cancelling the original ticket.
3) Who orders the airline ticket?
Kingdom Workers uses a travel agency to order tickets for volunteers.
4) What if I need to park my car at the airport while I’m gone?
The volunteer will need to cover this cost.
5) Who is responsible for transportation from the airport once the volunteer arrives on site?
It varies. Some congregations will pick up the volunteer from the airport. Some volunteers will need to provide their own transportation.
6) If a passport is required, who covers this expense?
The volunteer will need to cover the cost
Passport website: http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/english/passports/apply.html
FUNDRAISING 100% of the total mission trip cost must be raised before participating in the mission trip.
7) How can I raise the funds that I need to go on the trip?
Kingdom Workers can provide an online gifting site to help volunteers focus their fundraising efforts.
If the volunteer chooses to use a Kingdom Workers gifting site, they must pay a deposit before receiving access to a gifting site.
This deposit is not an additional cost – it will be added directly to your gifting site.
Deposit for trips outside the U.S. and Canada - $210
KINGDOM WORKERS VOLUNTEER HANDBOOK (REVISED APRIL 15)
PAGE 10
8) What happens if I don’t reach my goal amount?
In the event a volunteer is unable to reach their goal amount or is unable to participate in their selected volunteer activity, the
volunteer has the option of signing up for a future available mission trip and transferring contributions made to their gifting site
to that trip.
See “TRAVEL” on page 10
If there is not a similar mission trip available in the future, any contributions received will be applied to the same ministry
program.
In the event a volunteer changes their volunteer activity to a mission trip with a higher cost, the additional cost must be raised
prior to participating in the opportunity. If the volunteer changes to a lower cost activity, the additional gifting site contributions
will be allocated toward other mission projects in the same ministry program.
9) What happens if I exceed my goal amount?
Any funds raised above and beyond the total gifting site goal will be allocated to either volunteer teammates or current or future
mission projects in the same ministry program.
For example, funds raised for a Malawi mission trip, would be used for Malawi mission projects.
Additional funds can be allocated to a teammate if needed.
Any remaining funds will remain in that specific mission project area.
In the event a volunteer becomes disabled or there is a death in his or her immediate family, the deposit may be returned to the
volunteer, and any contributions received through the gifting site will be allocated to other mission projects. As a registered nonprofit, Kingdom Workers is not permitted to refund contributions acknowledged as charitable.
For full details regarding fundraising see page 20 of this Handbook.

EXAMPLES OF UNUSABLE PHOTOS
A FEW EXAMPLES OF PHOTOS WE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO USE ON OUR SOCIAL MEDIA, WEBSITE OR OTHER PLACES.
Kids are great, but how does this show
mission work or proclaiming the gospel?
Inevitably, many of our teams have the priviledge to
work with children. Vacation Bible school programs
are generally geared at young children. There is
nothing wrong with capturing images of the kids
playing and simply being kids for your personal files.
We hope you remember the experience!

Sharing the gospel?
No.
By all means, we want you to have fun, but
this is a mission trip.
Kingdom Workers sincerely hopes that you will enjoy
the trip, make new friends, and see new places. In
many cases, the host congregation will plan a day of
sight seeing. That is a bonus and gift from the congregation.

WRITING GUIDELINES
TIPS AND TRICKS TO WRITING IN A WAY THAT SUPPORTS THE MINISTRY OF KINGDOM WORKERS
It’s OK to be spiritual in your writing. It’s a mission trip. You are spreading the gospel and acting directly as God’s hands and feet.
In all of your writing, consider these questions:
1)
How is my work helping to spread the gospel?
2)
What is the impact (short term or long term) this project is having on the community I’m working in?
3)
How have I, as a Christian individual, grown through this experience?
4)
What is unique about this opportunity to proclaim the gospel?
5)
Is there an interesting story about an individual which displays the impact of Kingdom Workers?
You may not be able to answer all of the questions in every article you write, but these are a place to start from. Perhaps try to
focus on two or three of them as you consider writing the blog entries.
EXAMPLES OF USABLE ARTICLES THESE ARE ACTUAL ENTRIES WE RECEIVED FROM VOLUNTEERS
It is truly a blessing that more kids got to join the
program and hear about God’s Word while having a blast
in other activities throughout the day. That was probably
one of the most exciting things that came out of the
soccer camp. The witnessing that was done by the St.
Paul’s First Lutheran children to others was a success for
the mission outreach in this area of Los Angeles. I was
amazed to see God working through these children.
The week definitely revived my enthusiasm for entering
the teaching ministry in the near future. I can’t think of
any job I’d rather do than sharing the Gospel message
with kids almost every day.
Notice the focus on God’s word and the way it
moves and works in the lives of the people, the
impact on the community and comtemplation of
spiritual growth.
The kids gathered for the final time and began by singing
songs that would be performed in church on Sunday. At this
point in the week, they were comfortable and overly excited
to hear the great news of God’s love for us. Today, “Moses”
presented the Ten Commandments and the children listened
attentively. The “Israelites” were so thankful that they safely
made it through the desert due to God’s promise that He
will always provide for us. The tribes marched and chanted,
“God guides us, so trust God!” For our craft, we made a
banner with the children’s footprints on. The banners were
used during the church service on Sunday. At the end of the
week, we felt the Holy Spirit instilled a stronger faith in each
of the participants and we were so honored to be a part of
this.
I admire Paul’s words in his second letter to Timothy, “As
for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do
the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.” This is a
passage that encourages me personally and has helped me
to understand ministry. Paul was telling Timothy to fully
carry out his ministry. He is telling us the same thing. It’s
important that we carry out duties that go along with the
ministry. Sometimes those duties include simple activities
to make friends so that the Word of God may be proclaimed
later.

Aside from work, I’ve basically just been chillin’. All summer I watched the world

to watch games anymore, although I did watch the final between Germany and

The weather is very hot compared to the Midwest weather that we are both used to.

CANCELLATIONS
Should a volunteer choose not to go on the trip, after expenses are incurred, the volunteer is fully responsible for all nonrefundable costs. Examples include, but are not limited to airline tickets*
Kingdom Workers reserves the right to determine whether or not a volunteer is allowed to participate on a mission trip at any
point prior to the trip. If this were to occur, the volunteer would not be held financially liable.

*A medical note from a licensed physician or the death of an immediate family member are the only reasons someone can
legitimately not serve on a trip and not be held financially liable for non-refundable expenses that have already been incurred.

What happens if I don’t reach my goal amount?
In the event a volunteer is unable to reach their goal amount or is unable to participate in their selected trip, the volunteer may
opt to apply for a future available mission trip. Contributions already committed to or by the volunteer would then transfer to the
new trip.
Refer to the TRAVEL GUIDELINES on page 22
If there is not a similar mission trip available in the future, any donations received will be applied to the same ministry program.
If the volunteer selects a new mission trip that has a higher cost, the additional cost must be raised prior to participating in the
opportunity. If the volunteer selects a trip with a lower cost, the additional gifting site contributions will be allocated toward other
mission projects in the same ministry program.

What happens when I exceed my goal amount?
Any funds raised above and beyond the total gifting site goal will be allocated to either volunteer teammates or current or future
mission projects in the same ministry program.
For example, funds raised for a Malawi mission trip, would be used for Malawi mission projects.
Additional funds can be allocated to a teammate if needed.
Any remaining funds will remain in that specific mission project area.

In the event a volunteer becomes disabled or there is a death in his or her immediate family, the deposit may be returned to the
volunteer, and any contributions received through the gifting site will be allocated to other mission projects. As a registered
non-profit, Kingdom Workers is not permitted to refund contributions acknowledged as charitable.

Is Kingdom Workers a non-profit organization and are contributions accepted?
Kingdom Workers is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and depends on contributions and grants to be able to continue in its
mission of sharing the gospel.

Tax Deductible - Let your donors know that their contribution is tax-deductible.
Kingdom Workers provides automated post-transaction correspondence that will serve as proof of contribution and can be used
for reporting.
Checks given to volunteers in person or sent by mail should be made payable to “Kingdom Workers” in order for that contributor to receive a tax-deduction.
