Their program will consist of selections from Telemann, Prokofiev, and Ravel. Meredith McCallum Irving Berlin Love Songs. Martha Brooks, vocals, and Jeff Presslaff, piano, with Steve Hamilton, bass and Rob Siwik, drums, will perform meltingly beautiful music by Irving Berlin. Dr. Adam Bronstone received his doctorate in International Politics from the University of Hull, in the United Kingdom. He is presently the CEO of the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg. Dr. Adam Bronstone Living Centre, 1588 Main Street. Garden City Groove Garden City Groove is the senior of three vocal jazz ensembles at Garden City Collegiate. Led by Choir Director Stacey Nattrass Brown, Garden City Groove will perform a variety of hits from the Jazz era with some Latin, blues and funk thrown in for good measure. Karen Ridd Resolving Personal Conflicts: Dealing with Disagreements. Karen Ridd teaches in the departments of Conflict Resolution and International Development Studies at Menno Simons College of the University of Winnipeg. A mediator, teacher, and speaker in the field of nonviolence, Karen is routinely rated by students as being one of the most outstanding on campus. THURSDAY, JANUARY 22 Dr. Allan Levine The Impact of World War One and Two on Canada and the World. Dr. Allan Levine, award-winning author and historian, has written thirteen books, including King, the critically acclaimed biography of Mackenzie King, Toronto: Biography of a City and Miracle at the Forks: The Museum That Dares Make A Difference, coauthored with Peter C. Newman. TUESDAY, JANUARY 27 TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 3 THURSDAY, JANUARY 29 Indian City Indian City. Founded by Vince Fontaine, leader of the famed indigenous music group Eagle ‘N’ Hawk, Indian City features an all-star band of award winning artists and rising stars. Their unique fusion of lyrics, music and personality captures the sound and colour of a vibrant indigenous culture. Kang Mercer Park Trio. Presented by Prairie Debut, the Kang Mercer Park Trio is comprised of Rachel Mercer, cello, Judy Kang, violin, and Angela Park, piano. Audience-pleasing trios by Mendelssohn are presented alongside a colourful duo by Ravel. Kang Mercer Park Trio THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 5 Dr. Frank Albo Winnipeg and the Heavenly Jerusalem: 3000 Years of Utopian Town Planning. Dr. Frank Albo, an architectural historian with graduate degrees in ancient Near Eastern languages, Western esotericism, and the history of art, received his PhD from the University of Cambridge in 2012. Dr. Albo was featured as the code-breaking protagonist in the best-selling book, The Hermetic Code. Dr. Myroslav Shkandrij, Department of German and Slavic Studies, University of Manitoba, will focus on transformations that have occurred in Ukraine, Russia, and Europe, and in Western perceptions. Music influenced by the Middle East. Led by Richard Gillis on trumpet, and joined by a trio of the city’s leading jazz musicians. Smatterings of classical, flamenco, klezmer, Tin Pan Alley and jazz. Harlequin Barbershop Quartet Harlequin Barbershop Quartet. Rob Smith (Tenor), Larry Hunter (Lead), Herold Driedger (Bass), and Paul Bullock (Baritone). Featuring a repertoire of ballads, up-tunes, comedy, and 50’s doo wop. Helen White Dr. Shannon Sampert The Schultz Siblings Soprano Sarah Kirsch and Pianist Madeline Hildebrand, two of Winnipeg’s award-winning soloists, have joined forces and are making waves across Canada. Songs for voice and piano by Robert Schumann, Claude Debussy, Richard Strauss, and Richard Danielpour. Kayla Gordon TUESDAY, MARCH 10 Prodigy, led by Zane Zalis, is an advanced program of study for singers at Miles Macdonell Collegiate. This concert will feature music from Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Mumford and Sons, Credence Clearwater Revival, and other great and memorable songs from past and present, re- arranged to reflect this group’s unique sound. No, it’s not a riddle. Brothers Victor and Myron Schultz are joined by sister Erica in this rare trio performance of the Mayors of Sambor. The siblings will mine their musical roots in traditional and classical compositions, in this musical romp through Eastern Europe. THURSDAY, MARCH 5 TUESDAY, MARCH 3 Sarah Kirsch Fields of Gold: A Tribute To One of The Finest Female Jazz Lyricists. Spanning a career of five decades, Dorothy Fields collaborated with the greatest jazz songwriters, penning such hits as: On The Sunny Side Of The Street, Hey Big Spender, The Way You Look Tonight. Led by Helen White, with a band of outstanding musicians. THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 26 TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 24 Dealing with the Trolls: a Feminist on the Op-Ed Pages. Dr. Shannon Sampert is the first female editor of the opinion pages in the Winnipeg Free Press. She holds a PhD in political science and has written extensively on Canadian politics, media and women. Prodigy Canadian Holocaust-era Provenance Research Project: Stolen Art under the Nazi Regime. Dr. Stephen Borys is the Director & CEO of the Winnipeg Art Gallery. He also holds the post of Adjunct Professor at the University of Winnipeg where he teaches a graduate seminar in the Art History department. Jews and Broadway. Kayla Gordon teaches Musical Theatre in the department of Theatre and Film at the University of Winnipeg. She is Artistic Director of Winnipeg Studio Theatre as well as Winnipeg Jewish Theatre, and has performed and directed in theatres across the U.S. and Canada. THURSDAY, MARCH 12 Rembrandt String Quartet. Award winning musicians, principal players with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra; this quartet of two violins, a viola and a cello perform classical and Jewish music, to get everyone humming along.
