News from the Office…
Well, September sure flew by. Our students are hard at work with their learning and our
school is full of positive energy. With the Terry Fox Run, Grad-Staff Football and MY Divisional Soccer Tournament all taking place in these first couple of weeks, the school has
been energized.
We look forward to the continued hard work from our students and anticipate another
month of positive energy.

Student Communication with Parents/Guardians
Sometimes students will call or text parents/guardians when they are not feeling well
and need to be picked up. Please note that the school office and teachers need to be
made aware of these or similar situations. Students are also required to sign out in the
office when leaving during school hours. The office will be calling home to confirm any
unknown absences for grade 6 to 8 students.
Students might also not answer calls or text sent to their phones, as cell phones should
not be used during class time.

École Edward Schreyer School is a "Scent Reduced" environment.
Safety is a concern for all within our school environment and there can be chemicals in
fragrances and related products that can cause health issues to individuals in occupational
settings.

YOUR HELP IS
NEEDED!
Multiple studies have shown a
direct correlation between students’ academic success and
their parents’ involvement in the
school. The École Edward
Schreyer School Parent Advisory Council is a small but dedicated group of parents that want
to support, promote and enhance meaningful involvement
of parents and caregivers within
the school community. However
our numbers are small and we
want to ensure that we are accurately reflecting the wishes of
the parent community. In order
to do this, we need more members to help build and further
influence positive change at
École Edward Schreyer School.

wonderful things the PAC is
working on now, please contact

ÉESS Social Justice Committee News
The École Edward Schreyer School Social Justice Committee will be starting to
create plans for the upcoming school year.
After the first meeting we will begin with our first campaign that we call “We
Scare Hunger.” This will take place throughout the month of October. Both
students and staff will be collecting non-perishable food items that will be given
to the Beausejour Food Bank. Another component of this campaign is collecting
tins on Halloween night instead of candy. We would like to surpass the 1000
pounds we collected last year and continue this as an annual tradition.
WE DAY is fast approaching. On October 29, our school will be participating at WE
DAY again which is held at the MTS Center. The lineup of celebrities has not been
announced for Winnipeg’s WE Day, so the anticipation continues.
Our students at ÉESS continue to “take care of the Earth and the people we share
it with.”
Terry Fox Walk Update
The ÉESS students participated in the Terry Fox Walk on Friday,
September 19.
We collected a grand total of $2,557.15. Thank you for all your
support and generosity!

Aboriginal Studies 42U—Dual Credit Course

The 2013/2014 school year marked the beginning of our dual credit partnership with the Faculty of Indigenous Studies and the University of Winnipeg. We are pleased to announce that Aboriginal Studies 42U will be offered again in
the winter term at ÉESS. The success of our first year could not have been made possible without the passion, dedication and hard work of Mr. Kuleza and his students. Congratulations on a job well done!

Dual credit courses allow students to earn one high school credit and university credit hours while still in high school.
Benefits: reduced tuition, guided registration, transferrable, reduced course load, smaller class sizes, etc.
Opportunity to have some fun and log volunteer hours at the same time!
Beausejour Skating Club - Canskate Program
Season starts: October 12th, Program runs Sundays at 8:45 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.
Looking for program assistants! The Canskate program has a new look on and off the ice. Technical revisions include
a renewed focus on teaching and mastering strong basic skills to prepare skaters for all ice sports. On-ice delivery
focuses on continuous movement and emphasis on newer and more dynamic group teaching concepts including fast track, fun zone, and station rotation. More visual aids and music are used to
create a fun, stimulating and welcome environment.

High School Golf Team
The following students represented the school at the
2014 Zone 13 Golf Tournament on Thursday, September 11 at the picturesque La Verendrye Golf Course:
Will Middleton, Kayle Tosh, Ethan Hunter,
Adam Kobelka.
With three returning players, 2014 looked like the year ÉESS could return to the MHSAA Provincial Championships. Cool, windy weather and
a challenging layout were taken on by the Barons but their secondplace finish was one spot short of their goal. Kayle Tosh’s 83 was the
second-lowest round of the day. Mr. McKenty would like to thank the
boys for their commitment to the team.
