Term 2 Week 3
Dear Parents,
I do hope all of our Mothers and significant women in our lives had a wonderful Mother’s Day. I spent
my Mother’s Day on the sidelines watching Emma play hockey in Sydney but I wouldn’t have it any
other way. I was delighted when I got home on Sunday evening and Josh decided to ‘shout’ a mothers
day dinner. It is nice to be spoilt!
Thank you to the P&C and its volunteers for the work done in providing the children with a Mother’s
Day stall last week. The children thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to do their mothers day shopping
here at school. The P&C also held the Mother’s Day breakfast on Friday. It was wonderful to see so
many people attend this lovely school community event. The children love having their parents at
school as do we.
Congratulations to all the class Public Speaking winners who participated in the school finals last
Thursday and Friday. The speeches were incredible! A special congratulations to the year winners who
will now move on to the CWA finals on Tuesday 31st May at All Saints. The winners were:




Year 3 - Mia McClements
Year 4 - Mimi Taylor
Year 5 - Keira Copeland
Year 6 - Ray Cross
Good luck to our girls and boys soccer teams who play against Kelso tomorrow, Friday 13th May, at
Police Paddock commencing at 1.00pm. We look forward to hearing the results on their return.
Food Allergies - We do have several children at our school who have peanut allergies and have severe
reactions if exposed to this food. Parents are asked to be mindful of this when packing recess and lunch
and are encouraged not to send products which contain nuts in them to school.
A general reminder: All items of clothing and personal belongings should be clearly marked with your child’s name.
 All children require a broad brimmed hat each day as our school has a “No Hat, No Play”
policy.
 When parents and friends come to the school during the day, they should present to the front
office on arrival. This is a Legal and Workplace Safety requirement and is followed for the
safety and security of all children and teachers.
 We continue to encourage parents to make appointments to come and talk about your child’s
progress, problems that may arise, ideas etc. It is reminded that the education of your child is a
team effort with teachers and parents being the main stakeholders. With this in mind, it is an
important reminder that the parent/teacher relationship always needs to be cohesive and
supportive and one of mutual respect. I am sure we will continue to work with one another in a
positive manner.
 All money coming to the school should be placed in a sealed envelope with your child’s name,
correct amount of money, class and what the money is for clearly written on the front. All
money should be sent directly to the front office at the school for processing.
Our School Newsletter will now be uploaded every Thursday so all parents receive information at the
same time. Please refer to our website to download the weekly newsletter.
If any parent has any concerns regarding any aspect of school life, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Regards
Kate White
Principal
Late Notes
School starts at 9.00am every day. It is important that children are here every day to start at 9.00am or
they lose valuable learning time. If your child is late, please ensure they come to the office on their
arrival with a parent so they can be signed into school and receive a late note. Please remember:
Money and Notes
As all parents and children are aware, all money, when it comes to school for an event, goes directly to
the school office. This procedure is working well and we thank everyone for following this process.
We are now changing the process for ALL permission notes that need to be returned to school. When
children and/or parents return notes to school, they need to be taken to the office. All notes will be
collated and kept in the office and staff will pick up notes after the closing date. We are hoping this
streamlines the process with notes.
School Contributions
School Contributions for 2016 have been set and are now due. Fees can be paid by sending cash or
cheque in a sealed envelope with your child’s name, class and School Fees written on the front to the
front office at school. Alternatively parents can come to the office and pay by cash, cheque or EFTPOS.
The fees are:
$50.00 (1 child)
$90.00 (2 children)
$120.00 (3 or more children)
There is also a $15.00 Technology levy and $15.00 resource levy payable for each child. This assists
the school to purchase new resources for the children to use in the classroom.
Bathurst Public School's Biggest Morning Tea
Bathurst Public School will again host a Biggest
Morning Tea to support the Cancer Council. It is
on Thursday, 26th of May from 11.15am12.15pm.
Stage 3 students will be setting up food stalls
and there will be tea and coffee available for adults. Parents, Teachers and
Students will be able to enjoy morning tea together while listening to
talented buskers from Stage 2 and 3 who will be entertaining the crowd.
To make this a successful fundraiser we are asking students in Stage 2 and
Stage 3 to provide a plate of food which can be sold, e.g. biscuits, muffins,
cupcakes etc. These can be taken to the Interview Room before School on
Thursday, 26th May.
We hope you can join us for Morning Tea on Thursday, 26th May at
11:15am.

Primary School Rugby League On Show
Congratulations to Bathurst Public School rugby league representative Manny Tobin on his recent
selection in the Western Primary Schools open rugby league squad.
Manny was a stand out at the Western trials, and his skills and teamwork were duly noted by selectors.
Manny has a terrific opportunity in the lead up to the NSW carnival by attending a 3 day NSW NRL
development camp at Borambola Sport and Recreation Centre late in May before hitting his straps in a
trial match/training run on June 5 in Orange. These should be great opportunities for Manny to work
with highly skilled and experienced NRL development officers and coach Andrew Hooper of Grenfell
Public School, to hone his skills and develop a close working relationship with his new team mates,
before taking on the best primary school footballers from across NSW in the NSW PSSA Open rugby
league state carnival to be held at Wyong on the NSW Central Coast. The NSW carnival runs over 3
days from June 21-23 with the view of selecting a NSW squad that will compete at the Australian
Schoolboys championships later in the year.
This year’s team comprises players from Bathurst, Bathurst South, Bedgerabong, Blayney, Calare,
Cudgegong Valley, Eglinton, Mulyan, Orange, Wattle Flat and West Wyalong Public Schools.
Mr Hooper has his sights set high for this year’s team. “Last year the team had a hard run with several
close games, that with a different bounce of the ball, could have gone our way. This year I’m confident
that the ball will bounce our way and the close calls will be with us. Having said that our boys did play
extremely well and that was acknowledged with our number 13 being selected in the NSW team. I have
every confidence that this years team can step up will do a great job during the carnival. Who knows
we may have another player stand out and be selected in the State team.” He stated from League
Central. “ Traditionally the Western teams are considered the poorer country
cousins in this competition and don’t often have the size to match it with the
bigger, stronger players from metropolitan teams, but this year we have a game
plan to emphasise the extraordinary speed and skill of the Western team. We will
work on that over the next few weeks in our training sessions. I’ve got great
support in my manager, trainer and mentor Mr Faulkner from Bedgerabong- he’ll
have the kids revved up and ready come game day. We’re all very excited and
can’t wait to get into it. “
P&C News
Meeting next week
Come along to the May P&C meeting on Wednesday
May 18 at 7pm in the school staffroom (located in the main
building). Our meetings are friendly, informal and informative and
are open to everyone.
New faces are always welcome and you don’t need to commit to
anything – you can attend meetings as often as you like and be
involved as much (or as little) as it suits.
On the agenda this month will be:
 Father’s Day event/fundraising ideas

Recent investigations into a library makeover

Planning the next steps for playground artwork

Updates on the current classroom ‘squeeze’ and parking/traffic matters.
Got an issue you’d like to raise to support students’ education and wellbeing? We also have
an open forum time where you can put forward your views and ideas.
HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!
Local supporters
Thank you to everyone who supported our Mother’s Day breakfast last
Friday, especially our volunteers who kept those burgers moving and
the tea and coffee flowing! Special thanks also to Bernardis IGA and
Woolworths for donating food and drinks so most of the funds raised
will now go back to the school!

CLOTHING POOL/LOST PROPERTY
Our second hand uniform shop will now be open every Tuesday & Friday morning from 8.30am9.00am or by appointment, so children have 2 opportunities to collect lost property.
We have plenty of jumpers (sizes 4-16) and an assortment of other uniform pieces all for a gold coin
donation per item purchased with all money collected going back into the school for resources.
All donations of second hand uniforms will be gratefully accepted and
sold back into our school.
In an effort to keep our school tidier, all the uniforms in lost property
will be removed and stored in the
clothing pool every Tuesday & Friday morning. Children can come and
collect items from me at this time.
Any unclaimed items at the end of the term will be re-sold from the
