To help take some of the confusion and frustration out of homework, a librarian with an elementary education background will be available to assist students in grades K-5 with homework assignments. Did you know that at our Library a child can get a library card as soon as they are born? A parent just needs to apply at the Circulation Desk. You can hear them all when you come to Story Station! All age children, through sixth grade, are invited to drop by to relax and listen to favorite stories old and new read by one of our children’s librarians. Discovery Center: Ancient Egypt Take a trip into the past and explore the wonders of Ancient Egypt. Challenge your mind with trivia, puzzles, and a classic Egyptian game. Book Discussion September 25 at 7:00 p.m. #3097 The Community Library will be hosting a discussion of Pulitzer Prize-winning historian David M c C u l l o u g h ’s book, 1776. In this stirring book, McCullough tells the intensely human story of those who marched with General George Washington in the year of the Declaration of Independence — when the whole American cause was riding on their success, without which all hope for independence would have been dashed. Copies of 1776 are available at the Circulation Desk. Refreshments will be served. Book discussions are open to the general public. Literacy Suffolk, Inc. Needs You! In Suffolk County, 1 out of 7 adults does not have the literacy skills to function fully in society. That number is over 200,000 residents. Become a literacy volunteer and help change those numbers. Online Classes Available Through the Community Library Christmas Tree Shop and Cracker Barrel Bus Trip Wednesday, November 29 #3100 Registration for MMSCL cardholders begins on Tuesday, September 26. Registration for non-district patrons (space permitting) begins on Wednesday, September 27. Start your holiday shopping early this year! Venture with us for a shopping extravaganza at the Christmas Tree Shop in Orange, CT. Following your shopping spree, enjoy a scrumptious lunch at Cracker Barrel in Milford, CT. The price per person is $49.00 which includes, round trip coach transportation, lunch, all tips and gratuities. Bus trip tickets are non-refundable. The bus departs the Community Library at 7:00 a.m. Registration begins on Tuesday, September 26. LearnOnline is an innovative approach to education that offers users the opportunity to take advantage of independent study. Through this non-traditional mode of learning, patrons can use any computer connected to the Internet, select classes at convenient times and learn at their own pace. There are over 200 different classes available covering a variety of educational areas. All programs are available to Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library cardholders and require advanced registration, unless otherwise indicated.
