THIRD GRADE ACTIVITIES
Welcome back to school! The third graders were excited to begin a new school year in brightly painted classrooms. They have been busy using the IPads to learn about life cycles,
landforms, the animal kingdom, and practicing the steps of the writing process.
St. Catherine welcomed two new students, Ryanne and MacKenzie, to the third grade this
year. The girls look forward to interacting with their new classmates. Our new third grade
teacher, Miss Brittany Kawa, recently graduated from the University of Illinois. She is excited to begin her teaching career at her former school. The teachers and students look forward
to a busy year.
On October 18th, St. Catherine of Alexandria School will be having its 2013 Walk-a-Thon. All students
from our 3 year preschool through 8th grade will participate by walking through the neighborhood, along with
parents, teachers and faculty, to honor the pledges they received from friends and family.
To help raise additional funds for the Walk-a-Thon, we are also seeking group and businesses to sponsor
the T-Shirt worn by all students, faculty and staff on the Walk-a-Thon day. There are two opportunities to become a sponsor.
1.
A. $500.00 donation to be a Major Sponsor (your name/or logo will appear bigger on the
T-Shirt).
2.
A $100.00 donation to be a Regular Sponsor.
If you would like to be a sponsor and help the school raise funds, please contact Katie Hanley at 708-4201681 or khanley@rjobrien.com by September 13th.
Thank you for your consideration. We hope you will choose to be part of this worthwhile event.

RCIA
Are you thinking about becoming a Catholic?
Have you never been baptized or were baptized in another
Christian tradition?
Are you a baptized Catholic who never received instruction in
the faith, never received the Eucharist and Confirmation? Consider entering the
Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults process.
We meet weekly, starting the end of September.
Do you have a neighbor, friend or relative who asks a lot of
questions about the Catholic faith? Maybe, they just want an
invitation. Please pass this information along to them.
If you have questions about RCIA or would like to enroll in
classes, please contact Mary Ellen Lynch @ 708-423-5747.
AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD
As a pregnancy help center, each year we serve
approximately 3,300 women. We save mothers and babies
from the tragedy of abortion and help their families. We
can only do this with your help.
We are happy to pass on your used baby equipment to
mothers who cannot afford to buy it. Our need is great
because we have two distribution centers. If you attend a
garage sale, please ask the sellers to donate items to us. A
donation receipt for tax purposes is available. We have a
waiting list for 8 strollers, 2 double strollers, 3 bassinets, 3
bouncers, 5 pack n plays, 5 fixed side cribs, 3 changing
tables, 4 infant car seats, and 3 toddler beds. It will be a
great help if you can deliver these to us. For our address,
or if a pick-up by a volunteer is needed, please call 773794-1313.
We have a great need for a couple of people to work as
baby furniture volunteers helping load clients’ vehicles at
our Chicago office on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. until 2 or
3 p.m. Being bi-lingual is a plus. We also need volunteers
to sort and hang clothing and assist clients in our Chicago
Family Resource Room on Tuesdays, Wednesdays,
Thursdays and Saturdays. For information about these
volunteer opportunities, email jkeenan@womenscenter.org or call Jackie at 773-794-8807.
Toiletries (shampoo, toothpaste and deodorant), baby
formula and diapers in sizes 1, 4 and 5 are urgently
needed. These must be delivered to us unless
accompanied by baby furniture. The families who receive
these things are grateful for your generosity. Call 773-794
-1313 for our address.
We need volunteer sonographers who are already
certified or nurses trained in limited ultrasound. For
information call Kathleen at 708-425-0707.
Don’t forget our Walk for Life on Sunday, September
29th. For information and pledge sheets, phone 773-7941313 or visit our website at www.womens-center.org.
