ST MARY STAR OF THE SEA PARISH SOLEMNITY OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST THE KING NOVEMBER 22ND, 2015 MASS SCHEDULE ST. MARY STAR OF THE SEA CHURCH CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS EFFECTIVE NOVEMBER 1ST HOLY SAVIOR CHURCH EFFECTIVE NOVEMBER 1ST: SUNDAY AT 7:00AM, 8:30AM & 10AM MONDAY – THURSDAY AT 8:30AM SATURDAY VIGIL AT 5:15PM CONFESSIONS AT 4:15-5:00PM Mission Statement We the people of St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish in Ocean City, Maryland, want to respond to God’s love for us by doing His will, to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to love each other as Jesus loved us. In this way, He can live, as Risen Lord, in our midst and attract all people to the Father. As part of the Church, we want to be a “Home and School of Communion” where, through the celebration and living out the Sacraments, and various ministries, each member can live in unity as a child of God, building up the Kingdom of God until Jesus will come again in glory. “That they may all be one” (Jn 17:21) Dear parishioners and friends, Last week’s events are still in our minds, and our prayers are still being lifted up for all the people who have been affected, directly or indirectly, by the terroristic attacks. We bring them all, people of France, Beirut and Russia, into our hearts. We are entering the last week of the liturgical Year as we celebrate the feast of Christ, the King of the universe. We are contemplating, as we follow the episode of the Gospel of this Sunday, the Lordship of Jesus, which is not of this world. Personal Note – Last week, like all of you, I watched the news about the terroristic attack in Paris; I also heard the Pope calling this attack as part of a “piecemeal World War III.” I realized that I had to do something and, while praying, I realized that we need more prayers to put this war to an end. I am calling, therefore, all people to offers prayers daily, especially a Rosary (or a decade of the Rosary) for peace and end to this insane war. I do, however, want to create a group of people who are committed to praying. If you feel you want to make this commitment, sign up the card and placed it in the basket at the altar. We will offer our commitments to God through Mary on Dec 8th. The Gospel focuses on the dialogue between Jesus and Pilate. At the center of the story of the passion of Jesus there is the crowning with thorns and the gesture of the soldiers who dress Jesus as king only to mock Him. Ironically, Jesus is King but not in the way they understood it. Pilate asks Jesus if He is the king of the Jews. Jesus’ answer contains the truth He has been preaching since the beginning. Because of Jesus’ words and actions, and even more especially with His death and resurrection, the Kingdom of God will become present and the hidden God will become approachable. Jesus came among us to communicate the life of God to all people. This is the truth attested to us by Christ: God the Father loves each and everyone of us. In Christ crucified we see manifested the truth of love: a love that is free, a boundless love, a love offered to all people. Let's try this week to thank God for His infinite love and let’s become aware that we are a sign and an instrument of this love for every neighbor we meet. By the way we will love each person and the loving environment we can create, the Jesus the King of the Universe will be able to establish the Kingdom of God in our midst. I want to take this opportunity to wish each and everyone of you, and your family, a Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving. I pray to God that you may be Blessed by Him who loves you so much! Remember, Mass will be celebrated on thanksgiving Day at 9AM at Holy Savior Church. Our Parish Christmas Bazaar has been another success. I want to thank all the many people who volunteered their time and talents to make it happen. Without the many hours of work from all these “elves” we would never be able to keep an event like this going. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!! Our Office will be closed on November 26 and 27 for Thanksgiving. Next weekend we will begin the advent season, and as usual, we shall have the annual Christmas Giving Tree. More information in the bulletin. SOLEMNITY OF CHRIST THE KING The Sodality of Mary will have their next meeting on Sunday December 6th,2015. We will meet for the Rosary at 8 AM, followed by Mass at 8:30 AM, followed by a breakfast meeting up in the Hall. At this meeting we will make the Ranger Rosaries. All are welcome! SOLEMNITY OF CHRIST THE KING Faith Development: for your prayer time and meditation In Depth Read in the bible Sharing the Gospel Today is Christ the King Sunday. Instead of using his power selfishly to get whatever he wanted, Jesus used his power to free people from sickness, from death, and from evil. Jesus came to tell us the truth about God. Now we need to listen to the voice of Jesus and follow his example. Prayer Dear God, thank you for sending Jesus to be our loving king. Something to Draw Draw a picture of Jesus wearing a crown of thorns. Mission for the Week We "listen to Jesus" when we follow his example. This week, let others go first when you play a game. ©2008 - PO Box 510817, New Berlin, WI 53151-0817 - 1 -800-950-9952 x2469 - LPiResourceCenter.com Prophecies about the Messiah-King: Isa 9:1-6 Isa 11:1-9 Jesus, the King Mat 25:31-46 Lk 22:28-30 1 Cor 15:2-29 Rev 19:11-16 Jn 19:1-22 Read in the Catechism Christ the origin and goal of history CCC 440, 446-451, 668-672, 783, 786, 908, 2105, 2628: Christ as Lord and King CCC 678-679, 1001, 1038-1041: Christ as Judge CCC 2816-2821: “Thy Kingdom Come” From the early Church Indeed, his kingdom is here until the end of time, and until the harvest it will contain weeds. The harvest is the end of the world, when the reapers, who are the angels, will come “and gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin”; and this could not happen if his kingdom were not here. But even so, it is not from here, for it is in exile in the world. Christ says to his kingdom: “You are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world.” They were indeed of the world when they belonged to the prince of this world, before they became his kingdom. Though created by the true God, everyone born of the corrupt and accursed stock of Adam is of the world. On the other hand, everyone who is reborn in Christ becomes the kingdom which is no longer of the world. For so has God snatched us from the powers of darkness, and brought us into the kingdom of his beloved Son: that kingdom of which he said: “My kingdom is not of this world; my kingly power does not come from here.” (Homilies on the Gospel of John 115, 2: CCL 36, 64445) SOLEMNITY OF CHRIST THE KING Today we celebrate the feast of Christ the King….the end of the Liturgical year. Although we may feel Christmassy in our buildings, we are just starting into preparing our hearts to welcome Jesus. I always find it helpful to carve out a slightly bigger niche for God during this crazy season so that I can continue to remember what it is all truly about! If we are not conscious and aware, God’s voice and direction can get drowned out in all the hustle and bustle! So, as you prepare to give thanks this week, take a break for yourself and spend some quiet time with the Lord! Then, as you are preparing “wish lists” with your children, grandchildren, families and friends, pause for a moment and ask Jesus what He would like from you! It’s easy to do…just say, “Speak Lord, your servant is listening!” and then listen! Have a Happy and Healthy Thanksgiving … safe travels!
