This year we are hosted by a Polish city that is well known as the birth place of Nikolas Koppernigk (19.2.1473). Nikolaus Koppernikus – this is how his name is spelled nowadays – was a visionary, who questioned the fact of many “truths”. In 1543 he published his mathematical research on our solar system. Since that time the sun has been in the centre of the system and no longer the earth. The City of Torun is not the centre of the solar system but the centre of European Masters Athletics from March 23rd up to March 28th 2015. Be happy with us to be the guests of Torun. Enjoy the ambience of the city with its thousand–years of history. Enjoy the hospitality of the citizen of Torun. Torun is well prepared. Guests may enjoy a modern infra-structure, a well experienced organization, and a marvelous competition spirit. Welcome to Torun Kurt Kaschke EMA President I am very happy to be able to take patronage over this event that fits so well in the priorities of the Ministry of Sport and Tourism. We want to support and popularise sport – especially those disciplines that can be practiced through the whole life. Veterans’ competitions are a great proof that athletics is such a sport. Athletics, regardless of age category, is most of all overcoming your own weaknesses, a fight against subsequent barriers and records, overcoming of which brings greatest satisfaction, and this is my wish to all the participants of the event. The fact that the contestants will be competing on a unique track will surely influence the results achieved. It is the very same track on which was used a year ago for the Sopot world indoor championships, many personal, national and even world records were set on this track. I hope that the participants and organizers of 10th European Masters Athletics Championships Indoor Toruń 2015 will be celebrating a similar result. Let Stanisław Kowalski, who set the European record in M100 category and proved that it is never too late for success, be the motivation for all the participants of this event. Your greatest achievements are still to come. To the organizers of 10th European Masters Athletics Championships Indoor Toruń 2015 I wish that should proudly admit that they contributed to the improvement of Poland’s international image as the reliable and effective host of the largest sport events. Andrzej Biernat Minister of Sport and Tourism Michał Zaleski Wacław Krankowski Ladies and Gentlemen! Dear Friends, Athletics Veterans/Masters We invite all track and field athletes and sports fans to Toruń! We are proud to host the 10th Indoor European Veterans Athletics Championships in 2015 in the hometown of Copernicus. Dear Friends from the track, throwing and jumping area – there was a time when we celebrated the granting of organisation of 10th European Veteran Athletics Championships Indoor to Toruń. The sporting venues have already been prepared to host the athletes and supporters. We have completed the main arena for the championships in 2015 - a state-of-the-art sports and entertainment hall. It is the most modern indoor venue in Poland, primarily dedicated to holding athletics events. There was a time of anxiety concerning the timely construction of the main arena of the Championships. The opening of the sports hall took place on 10th of August with the Poland-Germany basketball game. Mayor of Toruń PVAA President, LOC General Director Come to Toruń! I am convinced that the visitors and athletes will be treated not only to the memorable experience of great sporting competition in the Fair Play spirit but also of the rich cultural heritage of our city. Mayor of Toruń Michał Zaleski Now is the time for intensive organization work so that we may live up to your expectations and make you leave Toruń with many unforgettable memories. The state of preparations for the Championships was assessed by the Board of the European Veteran Athletics Association that visited Toruń and its sport facilities on 16 June 2014. President Kurt Kaschke presented his assessment in his welcoming note besides. To put it short – we are ready for your arrival. On-line registration will commence in September 2014. Now, the time of sportswomen and sportsmen is coming. When you return from Izmir and start to plan for 2015, I cannot imagine you leaving Toruń out. I encourage you to join us. I believe that, as the Minister of Sports Andrzej Biernat says, you all will personally want to test the track on which the world’s best athletes competed in March 2014 in Sopot. We are eagerly awaiting your arrival. See you all in Toruń in March 2015. Wacław Krankowski PVAA President, LOC General Director welcome Irena Szewińska – A legend of Polish sport is the Ambassador of the 10th European Masters Athletics Championships Indoor - Toruń 2015. “I would like to emphasize that organization of veteran athletics events plays an important role in the promotion of a healthy lifestyle and I am personally very happy that such a prestigious event as the European Veterans Athletics Championships Indoor in this age category was granted to Toruń. Knowing the huge involvement of Toruń’s authorities and activists I am sure that the event will be organized at the highest level” ... excerpt from the letter of Ms Irena Szewińska of 22 June 2015 to LOC in Toruń). IIrena Szewińska trained athletics since 1961. In 1964, being only 18 years old, she won her first golden Olympic medal at the Olympics in Tokyo, while breaking the world record with her friends in a 4x 100m relay race. To this gold she added 2 sliver medals in Tokyo (200m race and the long jump). She took part in five Olympics winning a total of 7 medals. After conclusion of her sport career in 1980 she became a sports activist. All these cities offer bus or train connections to Toruń and the ticket prices range from 5 to 15 Euro per person. Moreover, Toruń is very well connected to almost the whole of Europe thanks to a regular network of bus and train connections. When journeying from the north you can use the ferry port in Gdańsk and then take a 2-hour drive on the motorway to Toruń. In my opinion, due to the good location of Toruń, constantly developing clearway and motorway network as well as relatively low fuel prices, it will be best to arrive with your own car. The city has an efficient public transportation network, free of charge for the Championships participants, that includes several dozen bus and tram lines. Several taxi corporations, offering good prices, supplement public transportation. A taxi fare from the sports hall to the city centre, where most hotels are located, costs only 2 - 3 Euro. 18 Świecko (Deutschland, Germany).......................................................325 km Zgorzelec (Deutschland, Germany)...................................................435 km Kudowa (Tschechische Republik, Czech Republic)..................413 km Cieszyn (Tschechische Republik, Czech Republic)...................469 km Łysa Polana (Slowakei, Slovakia)...........................................................551 km Korczowa (Ukraine, Ukraine)...................................................................584 km Hrebenne (Ukraine, Ukraine)..................................................................570 km Kukuryki (Weißrussland, Belarus).........................................................460 km Kuźnica (Weißrussland, Belarus)...........................................................407 km Budzisko (Litauen, Lithuania).................................................................409 km Grzechotki (Russland, Rusia)...................................................................242 km accommodation Order a hotel room now and you will get: Acting on behalf of the Local Organizing Committee our company prepared a very wide range of accommodation in Torun and the immediate surroundings.
