Impressions day 1
Picture: Roland Kunz
The start of the tournament took
place with simultaneous tee-offs at
the holes 1 and 10 of the yellow/black
course. The sky was mostly covered
with clouds. Only occasionally the
beautiful mountains in the south can
be glimpsed. But I am quite sure that
the athletes only had eyes for their
flying balls. The concentration reached
new levels.
The day was riddled with marvellous
strokes no matter the ball positions.
One extraordinary shot succeeded
Therese Nerpin with a „Hole-in-One“
(please see below). Another athlete
finished with birdie, birdie and eagle
on the last three holes. But golf can
sometimes be very pitiless. The Head
Daily News 3
Greenkeeper was not really amused
seeing one player hitting holes in the
tee with his driver. But he took it with
humour, especially as the player did
his best to camouflage his blowup.
The extraordinary and the bad strokes
ar sometimes very close...
Consulting the scoreboard at the end
of the day, it shows that nine athletes
played below par. Whereof one player,
Therese Nerpin from Halmstad
University Sweden, finished with a
score of 66, five below par.
For a short period of time the weather
was not the golfer’s best friend. It
started to rain. In their concentration
it appeared that some players did not

even recognise the drops. Finally it
cleared up and more and more the
scenery was enlighted with a warm
sunlight. Lucky those who were
brave and put on shorts early in the
morning.
And so every nice first tournament
day comes to a close. Maybe now the
athletes, the officials and the visitors
could enjoy the beautiful sight of the
Säntis – the highest mountain in East
Switzerland. If not, maybe they have
another chance tomorrow morning
when the starter declares the course
free for tee-off...

Referee
First „Hole in One“
„This is a verbal warning for the
whole flight“. With this words on his
lips I met Roger Volken, referee of
the tournament, the first time on the
course. He warned the players as they
are 17 minutes behind the schedule.
Roger’s duty is observing the players
if they follow the official rules. Further
he is looking that the pace is according
to the schedule.
Congratulations to Therese Nerpin
from Halmstad University Sweden.
She shot the first Hole-in-One of
the tournament. And it was the first
„Hole-in-One“ of her young career.
This skilfull act succeded Therese at
hole 5 at the yellow course, a par 3 of
156 metres. Who is next?
Roland Kunz
Shortly before the first tournament
day is finished, Roger explained that
it was a quiet day for him. Let’s do our
best that the following days will end
with the same statement.

St. Gallen on your own
Guided city tour of St. Gallen
It’s easy to find the way from the
Hotel Säntispark to the City Center.
The bus is just in front of the hotel,
take bus no 7 direction Neudorf and
exit where you like.
The bus leaves approximately all
10 minutes. It takes you directly to the
railway station of St. Gallen (in around
20 minutes) or to the Marktplatz
(which is even more in the city center,
23 minutes bus drive).
Way back: From the same two stations, directly to the Hotel Säntispark,
bus line no 7, direction Abtwil.
The last bus back leaves from Marktplatz at 00.25 and from the railway
station at 00.30.
The costs for a one way ticket is
CHF 2.90.
On Friday evening there’s a guided
city tour through St. Gallen to show
you the highlights of this beautiful
Swiss town.
Bus transfer to the City of St. Gallen
Approximately 1.5 hour of guided city
tour in St. Gallen
You will be back at the hotel latest at
22.30, unless you’d like to stay longer
and return on your own.
You will not be charged extra for the
tour – it’s all offered from the OC.
Meeting point: Lobby of the Hotel
Säntispark, 19.20
Be careful: taxis are very expensive
in Switzerland. The taxi from the
city center to the Hotel Säntispark is
around CHF 30.– to CHF 40.–. Uber
does not exist in St. Gallen yet. Public
transport is much cheaper and are
very reliable.
