Crisis Pregnancy Hotline 610-626-4006 May 2015 http://www.prolifedelco.org/ 610-789-LIFE HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY This is the day that the world sets aside each year to honor those beautiful creatures who bring us forth into the fullness of life. Every culture rightly places Mothers on a pedestal. All of humanity understands the debt we have to our mothers. It is mothers who give us birth, and shower us with a love so powerful that it becomes the standard by which all love is measured. Who, but our mothers, answer the cry of infants at 2 a.m.? Whose smile comforts every hurt? Who else knows how to encourage us? Who sings to us, and plays with us? Who teaches us to walk, and talk? Who feeds us, and clothes us? Mothers are the personification of the Corporal Works of Mercy. Consider that “whatsoever you do for the least among you, you do for Me.” What blessings must accrue to Mothers! Life is God’s greatest gift. Mothers are the precious vessels in which He delivers that gift. May every mother receive the joyful gratitude and appreciation for the blessing of her motherhood – in a very special way – this Mothers’ Day, and always! Page 1 of 9 Page 2 of 9 URGENT ACTION NEEDED NOW!!!! Just Say No to Pedro! The battle over the nomination of Pedro Cortes continues. The next phase will be the hearings before the Senate Committee. Please send an email to the following Senators with the Subject Line – “Say NO to Cortes”. In your email, you may wish to say that Cortes’ earlier tenure turned a blind eye to complaints over substandard practices at abortion centers in Pennsylvania, leading to the deaths of at least two women at Kermit Gosnell’s “house of horrors”, and the murder of countless babies who survived abortions. Note: Dozens of babies, who were the victims of Kermit Gosnell have still not been released from the Philadelphia Medical Examiner for burial, despite requests having been made by local pro-lifers. Please write to these Senators… Alloway Scarnati Pileggi McIlhinney White Stefano alloway@pasen.gov jscarnati@pasen.gov dpileggi@pasen.gov cmcilhinney@pasen.gov dwhite@pasen.gov pstefano@pasen.gov * To read letter, and see the signatures, visit: http://www.reprapp.com/Display/SiteFiles/38/OtherDocuments/SD30-SCANSNAP-104172015130121.pdf On April 20, a letter was sent to Governor Wolf from 38 Representatives and 11 Senators expressing “serious concern” over the nomination of Pedro Cortes, due to what Stephen Turner, former General Counsel for the Department of State, called “inexcusable non-performance” in the Gosnell case. Gosnell’s license was routinely renewed in each of the 8 years that Cortes was Secretary of State under Ed Rendell, despite: Gosnell being a defendant in 46 lawsuits; Gosnell’s malpractice insurance had lapsed for over two years; at least 8 major violations occurred in which women were seriously injured; and, the deaths of two mothers. None of these prompted as much as a single phone call. Pedro Cortes did not protect women for 8 years, and should not be restored to this office. It is outrageous that Governor Wolf would even nominate him. Contact Senator Pileggi It appears that Senator Dominic Pileggi (R, Delaware & Chester Counties) will be the key vote on this nomination, at the State Government Committee hearing. The committee hads 11 members. Republican Senators Scarnati, White, Stefano, and Alloway had signed the letter to Wolf expressing serious concern. We might expect them to oppose this nomination. Senator Folmer would likely lean against Page 3 of 9 URGENT ACTION NEEDED NOW!!!! ((CCOONNTT’’DD)) Contact Senator Pileggi (Cont’d) Cortes. That would be 5 votes opposing. Democratic Senators Leach, Dinneman, Schwank, and Williams are expected to support this nomination. Republican Senator McIlhinney is likely to support Cortes. These represent 5 votes in favor of the Cortes nomination. The final vote belongs to Senator Pileggi, who has not indicated which way he will vote. We can report that Senator Pileggi has generally voted pro-life through his tenure as Senator. (He is leaving to run for Common Please Judge in Delaware County.) Therefore, calls, emails, letters, and visits to district offices - will likely be most effective if they are directed to Senator Pileggi. dpileggi@pasen.gov 717-787-4712 610-358-5183 Thank Senator Pileggi for his pro-life record, and ask that he oppose the nomination of Pedro Cortes as Secretary of State. Day of Mercy Day of Action Pro-Life Delco joined groups from all over Pennsylvania including the Pennsylvania Family Institute, Pennsylvania Pro-Life Coalition, People Concerned for the Unborn Child, and Pro-Life Committees from counties all over the state. House Pro-Life Caucus Chair, Rep. Kathy Rapp, met with us and encouraged us with news of a pro-active legislative agenda. Delaware County’s own Jewels Green was a panelist in the discussion organized by the Family Institute, and hosted by Jeff Colemen. Page 4 of 9 It’s Not to Late to Support Theresa Santai Gaffney Just about a year ago, a single federal judge overturned Pennsylvania’s marriage law, which defined marriage as a union between one man and one woman. Governor Corbett declined to appeal. The leaders in the House and Senate did not act. But one courageous Register of Wills, named Theresa Gaffney, did stand up. She appealed the decision of the federal judge, and her appeal has added Pennsylvania to the list of states whose law will be upheld if the Supreme Court refuses to redefine marriage. But, Theresa Gaffney’s courage has prompted the homosexual movement to recruit and fund a candidate against her in her re-election bid. The primary is to be held on May 19. When Pennsylvania needed someone to stand for them, Theresa Gaffney answered was there for us. Now, we need to be there for her. Please send your $25, $50, or $100 donation ASAP to: Friends of Theresa Gaffney c/o Melissa Clarke, Treasurer 989 Clamtown Road Tamaqua, PA 18252 Update on New Jersey Suspended Religion Teacher Last month, we had reported on Patricia Januzzi, a New Jersey Catholic high school religion teacher who had been suspended from her job because she posted a comment on her Facebook page in which she opposed same sex marriage. We had asked you to contact the local principal and bishop. We are pleased to report that she has been reinstated. Thank you for your efforts. Area churches/congregations hosted a friendly competition for the benefit of the Life Center soup kitchen and two area homeless shelters. Participants included Messiah Lutheran Church, Newtown Square, St. Anastasia Church, Newtown Square, Temple Lutheran Church, Havertown, Lima Methodist Church, Lima and Ahmadlyya Muslim Community. Each year, the Life Center Soup Kitchen and local homeless shelters provide warm meals, temporary housing and other key programs that give people in need, a “hand up; not a hand out”. Programs such as these are a necessary lifeline to assist people who are struggling with the necessities of everyday life. Unfortunately, the programs are laboring under a $50,000 operating deficit. The event was a huge success with the Muslim congregation taking 1st prize and it helped to raise approximately $14,000 to help defray program costs. If you’d like to make a donation in support of this important cause, please send your check payable to CAADC (Community Action Agency of Delaware County) for the Save Our Shelters campaign c/o CAADC, Government Center, 201 West Front Street, Media, PA 19063. Stay Away from Crozer Hospitals by John Williamson As many of you know Crozer Keystone had the audacity to attempt to rent space from St. Kevin's Catholic Church in Springfield. On or about January 22nd we notified the Archdiocese and they advised that something would be done about it. To date, it is unclear whether anything has been done. Crozer has been doing abortions since 1973 and we believe that they have done over 65,000 abortions since that time on their premises. Now is the time to act. Send an email and/or a letter and/or a fax to Crozer and tell them that you will never use their hospitals again until all five hospitals Crozer, Taylor, DCMH, Springfield and Sacred Heart stop doing abortions. Currently Crozer and Taylor do abortions and Crozer rents out space to an abortion clinic in Upland. If you have a doctor in the Crozer system please write him and advise that you are going to have to find a new doctor and tell him why. The addresses for Crozer are as follows: Crozer Keystone Health Systems Corporate Headquarters 100 West Sproul Road Springfield, PA 19064 800-254-3258 Kate Stier, Director of Public Relations & Marketing c/o Crozer-Chester Medical Center One South, One Medical Center Boulevard Upland, PA 19013 Email: Katrina.Stier@crozer.org I suggest that you email and send a letter to the main office in Springfield. Please send at least one communication and please get at least one other person to do the same. Calling all Parish Contacts We have been collecting the names and e-mail addresses for all the Pro-Life Parish Contacts so we can communicate with the entire county more effectively on life issues. We have the majority of parishes and are just looking for a few more, such as the following: Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Morton) St. Francis de Sales (Lenni) St. Gabriel (Norwood) St. John Fisher (Boothwyn) St. Margaret Mary (Essington) If you know of the Pro-Life parish contact, please send to Barbara Murray, murrayb378@gmail.com. Thanks! Pro-Life Prayer of the Faithful Perhaps everyone is not able to attend a vigil, or visit elected officials, or counsel women in crisis. But, we call can pray. If we truly seek to bring in a Culture of Life, we must ask for God’s help. In Delaware County, our goal is for each parish to offer a simple Pro-Life Prayer of the Faithful at each mass, each day. Parish Respect Life Committees can update these each week, or receive them from the Archdiocese Family Life Office. In the absence of these, suggest simply this: “That God’s gift of Life be welcomed by all, and protected in law from conception through natural death, we pray to the Lord….”. Please let us know if your parish is participating. Contact Ted Meehan at tedmeehan3@gmail.com. Please Support our Sponsors John Williamson, Attorney 720 N.
