MEXICO’S ALL AROUND YOU
There is no other place that so perfectly melds a tropical, contemporary resort with the spirit and

cause for colorful celebrations, processions and parades throughout the year, during which the
streets are filled with music, dancing and theatrical performances. Your eyes can feast on beautiful
textiles and original works of art from local and international artists.

Shopping in Puerto Vallarta has turned out to be one of the highlights for
visitors. There is no specific shopping quarter here, so to admire the large
diversity of art, jewelry, handcrafts, ceramic, furniture, clothes, leather and
accessories among other things, plan a tour along the charming streets to
visit the unique shops in front of the malecon and the art galleries in the
downtown area.
Or try your bargaining skills at the Flea market by the Cuale river, where you will
find plenty of souvenirs such as T-shirts, silver jewelry, blown glass, leather sandals,
colorful sarapes and pottery.
There are also shopping malls where you will find exclusive boutiques as well as
department stores. Resort fashion and original designs abound.
Puerto Vallarta is a temptation to be captured on canvas, film and
in the written word. Its charm has resulted in a flourishing arts
community and has given rise to a rich local art landscape.
With plenty of light and color as well as fascinating scenery
greeting you everywhere, Puerto Vallarta has become a muse to
countless artists. Seventeen galleries have been pooled together for
a non-guided Art Walk every Wednesday (Nov.-Apr.) along the
downtown area and visitors are treated to numberless styles and a
cultural buffet.

Vallarta to nearby destinations such as:
Guadalajara:
Mexico’s second largest city, and a stunning example of colonial
architecture, Guadalajara is the soul of all that is Mexico. From
the daring Charro horsemanship displays to Mariachi music and
an abundance of typical Mexican dishes, the city offers plentiful
shopping, culture and entertainment.
Tequila:
This is where tequila, the “spirit” of Mexico is refined and bottled.
Almost all tequila is produced here; this area is noted for the
expansive fields of blue agave plants that grace the surrounding
hillsides. Tour a distillery and learn the subtle differences of this
sublime elixir.
San Sebastian:
Find yourself strolling back in time as you wander down the
streets of the historic village of San Sebastian, a 17th century
mining town secluded high in the Sierra Madre mountains.
Mascota:
Mascota is the center of a rich farming valley surrounded by
lush pine and oak forested ridges. Touring the small town will
show you how life is in the traditions of authentically Mexican
villages. Enjoy incredible views of farms and jagged mountain
peaks or take a walk in the cobblestone streets to visit the
colonial haciendas and the central plaza with a splendid church
in front. The town is scrupulously clean, laid back and quiet.
Talpa de Allende:
At over 4,000 feet above sea level and surrounded by pine
covered mountains, Talpa de Allende has become an important
pilgrimage site for Christians in Mexico. There has been an
ancient and continuing tradition of sacredness at this place that
congregates 3 pilgrimages a year to see the Virgin “Rosario of
Talpa.” Don’t miss the famous guava roll, and tiny articles, such
as sombreros and sandals, made out of non-sweet chewing gum
derived from the Chilte tree which grows locally.
Magic South:
The fishing villages of Las Animas, Quimixto, Majahuitas and

ARRIVALS/DEPARTURES: The Gustavo Diaz Ordaz International

tax when ticketing, but check ahead to make sure.
CURRENCY, BANKS & MONEY EXCHANGE: The peso is the

Transportation
• LOCAL BUS SERVICE
There are many bus routes on the town’s
streets. You can identify routes by number,
but most easily by color; the blue colored
buses run the route from Marina Vallarta
to downtown. The fare is approximately
$.50 US which makes it the most affordable
way of transportation during the day.
• TAXIS
Available all around town (with over a 1,000 taxis).
They are not equipped with meters and instead
divide the city in zones. They charge a minimum
fee of approximately $3.50 US and a set amount
of approximately $1.50 US at each zone crossing;
therefore if you travel from the downtown area to
Marina Vallarta you would be crossing 3 zones and the
fare will be $8.00 US approximately. Tips are included
in the fare.

Puerto Vallarta has become one of the favorite
ports on the Mexican Pacific with more than 200
cruise arrivals per year from more than 10 cruise
lines, bringing a potential capacity of 250,000
passengers. A program of continuing dock
amplification enlarges that capacity with passing
seasons.
