Beautiful Water Labyrinth
The rivers, idyllic canals and crystal-clear lakes in the Ruppin Lake District
form a unique water park which is one of the most beautiful waterway
systems in all of Europe. This boating paradise is directly connected with
Berlin, the Baltic Sea, the Elbe and Oder rivers. Active nature enthusiasts
can explore the water labyrinths by canoe, kayak, paddle boat or row
boat. Leisure skippers can rent houseboats or motorboats equipped with
all of the domestic luxuries. It is possible to travel by boat without a
skipper license in a big part of the region. Tourists who want to leave
the navigating to professional skippers can discover the waterways via
excursion boat, solar boat or barge. Why not enjoy the views of castles

Ideal for Bicycle Tours
The dense network of cycle paths through flat or gently rolling terrain
makes the Ruppin Lake District ideal for a bicycle holiday. Here, far from
the roar of traffic, you can cycle through a unique natural landscape
and discover many cultural monuments. Conditions are perfect for a family holiday: there are special activities for children and adults to enjoy
alike. The longdistance cycle route Berlin-Copenhagen passes through
the Ruppin Lake District. Highlights along this route are the historic
towns of Oranienburg and Zehdenick, and the beautiful village of Himmelpfort with its monastery ruins and Christmas post office. Children

Pristine Nature
Travelling in the Ruppin Lake District is like a journey back in time. The
shady forests, verdant meadows, gentle hills and beautiful waterways
appear even today like in Theodor Fontane’s famous travelogue „Walks
through the March of Brandenburg“. You will be captivated by the
picturesque landscape: poppies along the wayside, cobblestone streets
bordered with fruit trees, the shady tunnels of tree-lined avenues, the
storks on the roofs of the Mark villages, the cranes on the meadows and
the beavers and otters in the lakes and rivers. Follow Fontane’s footsteps
along the 66-lakes route or the Ruppin circular trail. These lead through

with lakes and the Luch landscape, a mosaic of fens, moors and marshes. This is also a great area for bird-watching: it is a rest stop for cranes
and other migratory birds. Or come and see the storks in the famous
stork village of Linum. And for adults and children alike, the Stechlin
Nature Reserve offers fascinating activities to learn more about nature.
You can also discover the Ruppin Lake District by bicycle, open carriage
or on horseback, by balloon or even by going on a „quad tour“ with
an amphibian ATV! Along the way, farmers’ markets and organic farms
invite you to try their delicious food products. The Ruppin Lake District:

Prussian Culture and History

Prussian Culture and History
Much here is reminiscent of old Prussia – the many castles and manor
houses with their beautiful landscaped gardens and the famous stables
in Neustadt (Dosse). Worth seeing, too, are the Prussian towns in the
Mark with their old ramparts and winding lanes. The region’s many museums exhibit fascinating cultural artefacts, such as the collection of illustrated broadsheets produced in Neuruppin in the 19th century, the
brickyard park in Mildenberg or the legendary mummy of the knight
Sir Kalebuz. Charming theatre venues are the famous Rheinsberg Castle
with the Chamber Opera or the Netzeband Estate Park, where a summer music festival, dance- and theatre performances take place. Even

barns, historic ruins or old churches serve as settings for the summer
cultural programmes. If your are interested in clay and ceramics we recommend a a vistit in Rheinsberg, the Ceramics museum in Velten or
the Brickworks Park in Mildenberg. Here you can see how clay is mined,
watch ceramicists at work or create your own ceramic pottery. Stark reminders of a dark chapter in German history are the two concentration
camp memorials Oranienburg- Sachsenhausen and Fürstenberg (Havel)Ravensbrück. The Ruppin Lake District – a region rich in culture and in
history.
