In this issue of Dragonews you
can read all about the business
direction at Dragonair, as we
increase our fleet, grow our
network and strengthen our
workforce across the board. This
exciting development is driven
by growth in demand across
Asia, especially in Mainland
China.
However, amid this good news I am afraid
that I do have to sound a cautionary note. As
you are all aware, the aviation industry is
highly volatile and we can very quickly feel
the effects of situations and incidents that are
beyond our control. While the economic
outlook in Asia is encouraging, that in the US
and Europe remains sluggish and this has a

Dragonair is on the up... more
aircraft, more destinations,
increased capacity and
frequency, more and better
inflight facilities, new uniforms
and stronger workforce. That’s
good news for all of us. Not
only does it show that we are
equipping ourselves to grab
every positive business
opportunity in Asia, but it will
bring benefits for everyone
involved with Dragonair.
The future outlook, which was laid out at
the KA management conference on 21
February, will bring opportunities to us all,
no matter what our job or role at Dragonair,
or whether we are based in HKG or at the
outports. There will be challenges ahead,
for sure, but it will also benefit the Group as
a whole, and it is vital here that KA and CX
work closely together. The synergy that
comes from us achieving this will maximise
our expanded network and strengthen the
Hong Kong hub, thus capturing more
passengers and business for both airlines.

We are also operating in an increasingly
competitive atmosphere here in Hong
Kong. One downside of an economically
active environment means that everyone
wants a share of the pie! And Hong Kong
itself is facing competition from other
destinations in Asia that are trying to
capture business both within and outside
the region.
It is vital that we make the most of
Dragonair’s competitive edge. The key to
facing all these challenges is the synergy
that comes from KA and CX working
closely and effectively together. By
strengthening this connection, we can
maximise the KA network, fortify the HKG
hub, capture more passengers and
business, and hence grow further.

and this of course comprises a huge
amount of our budget, along with inflation.
This means that all of us at Dragonair need
to keep our eye on operating costs. We
also need to maximise market opportunities
in a cost-effective and efficient way. At the
same time, we must strive to provide the
best product and maintain the high
standards of service for which we are
known.

Bigger Fleet
Six aircraft are being added to our fleet this
year. Two A320s are commencing service
next month, while the two other A320s and
two A330s will join later in the year,
bringing the total fleet to 38. This
expansion will allow for better utilisation of
aircraft, increased frequencies and the
addition of new destinations.
Growing Network
We are always looking at market potentials
in order to capture the opportunities in
Mainland China and other areas in Asia.
Flights to three destinations are being
resumed, namely Xi’an – with flights already
started on 1 April; Guilin, to commence on 1
May; and Taichung on 14 May. New
destinations to be launched are Jeju in South
Korea, Chiang Mai in northern Thailand and
Clark in the Philippines.

Increased Capacity
& Frequencies
Growing market demand is leading to
capacity and frequency increases to a
number of destinations. Starting from 25
March, Ningbo sees four additional flights
a week, making a total of 14 a week,
Okinawa has two additional flights a week,
doubling the total to four flights a week.
Three more flights are heading to Qingdao
from 1 May, bringing the total to 10 per
week. In addition, an upgrade to A330
aircraft will boost capacity on a number of
services, including Kunming and
Guangzhou starting from 25 March, and
Xiamen from 1 May.
Inflight Experience
Enhancement
As part of our mission to constantly provide
premium and quality services to our
customers, a number of inflight products
will be upgraded. These include seats,
inflight entertainment and wi-fi so as to
enhance passengers’ total experience.
In addition, we will continue to work with
renowned restaurants both in Hong Kong
and at outports to introduce new and
sophisticated tastes and seasonal menus on
board. As an example, the acclaimed Man
Ho Chinese Restaurant of JW Marriott Hotel
Hong Kong and Mandarin Grill + Bar of the
Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong have just
commenced as our new inflight menu
partners from mid April, which go along with
the launch of a new Asian Delights series
featuring Southeast Asian cuisines.
These will be coupled with the introduction
of more customer-centric inflight sales
products, and the currently launched Home
Delivery Service in the Mainland. Inflight sales
have been encouraging of late, with figures
having increased by 30% in 2011, so we have
great expectations for this feature!
New Look
A new uniform is one of the most highly
visible changes allied to different initiatives.
The project to redesign cabin crew and ground
staff attire is currently under way, led by local
fashion designer Eddie Lau. It is a complicated
and meticulous process that encompasses the
design concept, collection of feedback,
protype production, try-outs to refine details,
and production of the final design. We are
making good progress with an latest update
of its development on page 06.
Strengthening
Work Force
One of the most exciting pieces of news,
however, is the strengthening of the work force
as well as advancement opportunities for
incumbent staff. Dragonair will be recruiting
around 35 cadet pilots this year through the
local recruitment programme. We will also be
recruiting about 40 Hong Kong-based First
Officers. Regarding cabin crew, we are in the
middle of an ongoing recruitment exercise –
more than 300 cabin crew members joined
Dragonair in 2011, and we target to recruit
around another 450 this year.
All together, it makes for a very exciting and
challenging time for everyone connected with
Dragonair! And Dragonews, along with
dragonet, will keep you updated on our latest
developments.

Guest of Honour Director-General of Civil
Aviation, Norman Lo, encourages mentees
to embrace diversity among themselves and
share their experience so as to inspire their
friends and bring in more talents.
It is a busy time for everyone involved with the Dragonair Youth
Aviation Academy (YAA) of late. The newest recruits in the Dragonair
Aviation Certificate Programme (DACP) are settling into their course
work, around 100 local university students got to learn more about
cabin crew roles, and we also conducted a volunteer recruitment
exercise amongst staff.

thanks all the mentors for their valuable
contribution to the programme.
The YAA’s signature activity, the Dragonair
Aviation Certificate Programme, is now
underway for 2012, with three new
supporting organisations joining, and eight
new pilot mentors. Response from the
public was overwhelming during the
application procedure for this course, with
more than 30 percent increase in numbers
applying. A total of 24 were eventually
selected – 12 from the public and 12 from
the Hong Kong Air Cadet Corps. Each one of
the 24 participants on the eight-month
programme will be supported by an
individual mentor, and a total of 11
organisations will be involved.

worth noting that LSG is the Dragonair
inflight catering provider. All three
organisations make a valuable contribution
to aviation in Hong Kong, and it is very
encouraging that they are now a part of the
programme, ensuring that our participants
receive a more rounded impression of the
diversity of the aviation industry.
The Airport Fire Contingent (AFC) of the Fire
Services Department provides rescue and
fire-fighting coverage for the HKIA, through
two fire stations and two sea rescue berths
at strategic locations on the airport platform.
The programme includes visits to the AFC
where various types of advanced rescue and
fire-fighting appliances and equipment will
be introduced.
Visit to the Airport District of the Hong Kong
Police Force will include a tour of the Airport
Police Station, where an introduction on
policing HKIA and the Airport Security Unit
will be given.
LSG prepares thousands of inflight meals
for flights flying out of Hong Kong each
day. The programme includes a
facility visit to LSG’s headquarters in
the airport area, through which
participants will understand the
special procedures and food safety
requirements of inflight meal
preparation.
Cabin Crew Insight
Aside from the programme, other
youngsters in Hong Kong can also
benefit from YAA activities. A half-day
cabin crew workshop was held in early
April, attended by more than 100 local
university students at KA House. They took
part in a variety of interactive sessions and
demonstrations, and heard first-hand from
cabin crew about their job responsibilities
and the requirement needed to be a cabin
crew. They learned more about the relevant
skills and knowledge needed, such as
grooming, interpersonal and
communications skills, inflight and work
safety. The workshop gave the students a
far more comprehensive, informative and
entertaining insight into the work and
lifestyle of cabin crew than a traditional
career talk, through case-learning,
demonstrations and sharing.
KEY Recognition
Given the importance of the Mainland China market to Dragonair operations, it is very heart-warming
to win two awards in this market. We have been named Most Liked Airline by registered users of
Renren.com, a hugely popular social media network seen as the Chinese equivalent of Facebook. We
are also the winners of the Best Inflight Catering at the China Shanghai Tourism Awards Ceremony
organised by the Shanghai Evening Post.
In addition, in Hong Kong, Dragonair has been awarded the Caring
Company Logo by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service for good
corporate citizenship for the seventh year running. Nominated by the
Hong Kong Air Cadet Corps, a co-organiser of the Dragonair Aviation
Certificate Programme, KA is recognised for its caring work and
contribution to the community.

Fresh Outlook
There are new developments on the taste front at Dragonair, with
new partners and new menus along with a broader reach to serve
more passengers.
We welcome Man Ho Chinese Restaurant
at JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong as a new
restaurant partner. Starting in mid April
delicious dishes from this well respected
outlet have been featuring on trunk
routes including Beijing and Shanghai in
all classes, Taipei and Kaohsiung in first
and business class and in business class
for secondary routes from Hong Kong to
Nanjing, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Qingdao,
Kunming, Ningbo, and Fukuoka.
For the first time, we are partnering with
the Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong for a
Western menu. Since 16 April, first and
business class passengers to Beijing and
Shanghai have been able to choose dishes
from a menu specially designed by this
award-winning hotel.
Also since mid April, passengers in
business class for Beijing and Shanghai
have been enjoying Asian Delights from
our new Asian cuisine menu. This menu
encompasses signature dishes from
Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan,
Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia and the
Philippines.
Timely Help
UNIFORM Update
We also have new restaurant partners
coming on board on 1 May on flights out
of Shanghai. Ming Court of the Langham
Xintiandi Hotel will be responsible for
Chinese dishes in all classes, while the
Cathay Room of the Fairmont Peace Hotel
will contribute Western-style dishes in first
and business class.
The second presentation of the new Dragonair uniform was
conducted in mid April by designer Eddie Lau, in front of
Chairman John Slosar, Director & Chairman of the Executive
Committee Ivan Chu and CEO Patrick Yeung, along with
members of the New Uniform Steering Committee and
management staff.

This followed on from the presentation
in December when we short-listed a
few styles and invited feedback from
uniformed staff. Customer panels were
held in Hong Kong and Shanghai to
collect feedback. An initial functionality
test was also carried out with ground staff
and cabin crew. More than 60 percent
of staff rated the new designs positively,
while more than 70 percent of customers
welcomed the new designs and saw
them as being professional, premium and
elegant. Both staff and customers agree
that the new designs are harmonised with
the CX uniform, providing cohesiveness
across the Group yet retaining our own
identity.
In order to construct the designs into
a real uniform, a technical consultant
has been appointed to commence the
design translation work. A bigger group
of uniformed staff from Hong Kong and
outports will be invited to take part in a
wearer trial in the second half of the year.
The comments received from this will be
passed on to the designer and technical
consultant for final tweaking before the
official introduction.

A couple flying from Kaohsiung to Australia
via Hong Kong during the busy Chinese New
Year period were so happy with the service
they received that they took the time to write
a compliments letter. They had discovered
on arrival at KHH that they had not got their
visas. Peter Fu, Airport Services Officer,
helped them contact their travel agent, even
speaking to the agent himself, and assisting
them in completing an online application
within minutes. They also discovered that
they were not seated together on the leg
from Hong Kong to Australia, but Peter
was able to sort this out and issue two new
boarding passes. “We were very pleased
with the professional service of KA and we
particularly appreciated the help of Mr Fu,”
they wrote.
Keeping
in
Touch
A passenger flying to Hong Kong from
Shanghai realised that he had left his mobile
phone in the Marco Polo Club Lounge and
spoke about it to Flight Attendant Carl
Chung. He was so impressed with Carl’s
attitude that he took the time to contact
Dragonair to say thank you. “Carl helped
me to get in touch with the
ground crew to locate
the phone. He kept me
notified of the status
during the flight. I felt
that I was very well
taken care of by the
airline. Carl has a good
attitude and his extra
effort makes for excellent
service.”

Emotional Moment

Dragonair in Xi’an has a staff of eight in town
and five at the airport. Among them is Airportin-charge Cathy Xin from Guangzhou, who
has been transferred back to Xi’an. In fact,
three of the staff were with the Xi’an team
when it went offline in 2009. “For them it is
an emotional moment as they have waited
for this day since the moment we stopped
flying,” says Manager Western China Max
Lui. The team has held a launch ceremony,
and is conducting a marketing campaign
that includes billboard advertisements at
the airport and on buses within the city,
as well as radio ads. “Xi’an is a wonderful

destination to launch as it benefits the
entire network,” says Max. “It is a place of
great history and is therefore a great leisure
destination for passengers from around the
world. But over the past few years we have
also seen a growing business community
here, with the need for international
travel to support their work, as well as a
local population that is becoming more
sophisticated international leisure travellers.”

Driving Ambition
KA has been able to reaffirm its leadership
in the freighter service market in Eastern
China with the launch of a truck service from
Wuhan to Shanghai Pudong. This is important
because Wuhan is a key exporter of machinery,
electrical products and components, yet there
is limited capacity on our Wuhan service.
The truck service facilitates the export of
bulky goods. Congratulations must go to the
leadership shown by the management of
the China cargo service team and the careful
planning of the Wuhan and Shanghai teams
and the effort they have put in to promoting the
development of the cargo service in the Wuhan
area. The launch of the service in January went
very smoothly.

Cambodia’s ‘Oscars’!
is underway, including press releases and
advertisements locally. A gate ceremony and
post-event dinner will be held to celebrate
the route launch on 1 May. “Guilin is a
popular leisure destination that continues to
attract visitors from Hong Kong, Europe and
North America,” says Quincy.
Only Non-Stop Service
Recruitment for Jeju is ongoing, as
Country Manager Korea Clarence Chung
explains: “We plan to maintain a small
team at the airport, as sales activities will
be covered by colleagues in Busan and
Seoul. At present, Busan Airport Services
Manager Min Jung Lee, a veteran of KA
operations, is in charge of the preparation
of the airport set-up.”
Clarence notes that Jeju is best known as a
honeymoon destination for Koreans, and is

also popular with Japanese. “However, in
recent years, the growth of Chinese tourists
to Jeju has been phenomenal.” He says
that Jeju can leverage on the CX Group
network to bring international travellers to
the island. “Of course, as the only non-stop
service between Hong Kong and Jeju, it will
also save Jeju citizens time travelling to
Hong Kong and beyond, making use of our
Hong Kong super hub.”
It’s been award ceremony time in Phnom
Penh. There was plenty to celebrate at the
Top Cargo Agents 2011 awards. KA cargo
has achieved an impressive 12.2 percent
growth in revenue, mainly as a result of
the shift in manufacturing to the region. KA
has also benefited from increased capacity
beyond HKG. Seventy guests attended the
Top Passenger Sales Agent Ceremony 2011.
Besides the traditional top three agents and
growth agents, KA awarded best corporate
sales growth to one agent, as 2011 saw the
start of corporate accounts in the country.
Awards were also given to the top two agents
to China, as this strong market continues to
develop. Direct sales grew 10 percent above
total revenue for the first time in the country’s
history, with online sales alone achieving a
fantastic 73.6 percent increase.

Bright New World!
The official opening of the new regional
office for Shanghai ports and East China
took place in February, with more than
50 guests and agents in attendance.
Officiating were Chairman John Slosar and
CEO Patrick Yeung. The office is located
in the Jing’an central business district,
and provides staff with a superior work
environment, as we had outgrown the
old premises, though they had served us
well through the years. The 1,600 sq.m.

future expansion. “We are particularly
pleased with the well equipped pantry with
tables and sofas, which is linked to the
two meeting rooms – it’s a very thoughtful
consideration for staff,” says Clement Tam,
Manager Eastern China. “In addition, the
office enjoys natural sunlight for a bright
and comfortable working environment.”
Success
The Southern China 2011 Top Agent Awards
Presentation dinners were held on successive
nights in mid March in Guilin, Xiamen, Fuzhou
and Sanya respectively, with local passenger and
cargo agents invited. KA management presented
a number of awards to thank top agents for
their tremendous support in 2011. The guests
were also treated to an opening performance of
a Dragon dance as well as a staff performance
arranged by each individual port.

Spring Celebration
Dragonair/CX Holidays organised a spring
dinner in March to show its appreciation
to travel-agency and freight-forwarder
partners in southern Taiwan. Performance
artist Jarry Zheng was invited to perform
his Terra Cotta Warrior to celebrate the reopening of flights between Hong Kong and
Xi’an. In addition, guests were presented
with a photo taken with the wood and clay
warriors as souvenirs, while awards were
also presented to outstanding industry
players in 2011. The dinner concluded with
a lucky draw with five air tickets as prizes.
The luckiest winner received two round-trip
tickets to Kaohsiung.

Incredible Sights ON
THE HORIZON
Our network is expanding, with new destinations being added and
previous ones being reinstated. Here we highlight Guilin and Xi’an in
Mainland China, to which services are being resumed, and Jeju in South
Korea, a new destination. Guilin and Xi’an are already favourite travel
spots for international travellers, but Jeju – a popular honeymoon island
for Koreans – is not so well known.
AMAZING
All three places are on the UNESCO World Heritage list, so there’s no
shortage of things to do, and our teams in the outports offer up some
insider advice!
Army
Xi’an, in Shaanxi Province, is one
of the premier tourist destinations in
Mainland China thanks to the astonishing
“terracotta army”. It has a rich history
dating back over 3,000 years, and it is
one of the “four great ancient capitals” of
China; 13 dynasties and 73 rulers made the
city their base. It also stood at the eastern
end of the Silk Route and as such has been
a key trading centre for centuries.

Not surprisingly, the KA Xi’an team
recommend the Terracotta Warriors
and Horses Museum as the highlight
of any visit. It has been a UNESCO
World Heritage site since 1987, and its
underground pits contain an amazing
8,000 life-like terracotta warriors,
around100 chariots and 30,000 weapons.
SPECTACULAR
Away from the museum, it’s difficult to
miss the city walls – reputedly the largest
in the world. Within the walls, top sights
include the Big and Little Goose Pagodas,
Bell Tower, Drum Tower and the Grand
Mosque.
Outside of the city, the 2,200m Huashan
Mountain, known traditionally as the
Great West Mountain, is one of China’s
five sacred mountains and offers grand
scenery including breathtaking cliffs and
some wonderful hiking experiences.
For souvenir shopping, the bazaar area
behind the Drum Tower in the Muslim
Quarter is a great place to practice your
bargaining skills. Calligraphy Street near
the South Gate is another good hunting
ground for gifts.
Scenery
Guilin is truly one of the world’s
most spectacular natural sights. Located in
Guanxi Province, it is famed for its dramatic
limestone rock formations, rice terraces and
winding river. The city itself is one of the
most laid-back urban centres in the country,
and offers a pleasant, relaxing place in
which to base oneself for a few days, while
exploring the scenic splendours of the area.
We asked the KA team in Guilin to act as
our “tour guides” and advise us on what
they consider to be top “must-see” sights.
They unanimously voted the Lijiang River,
highlighted by UNESCO, as the iconic spot
of Guilin, and recommend that visitors spend
a whole day on a slow boat trip winding
10
through the towering limestone rocks. Stop
off for a while in the small, beautiful town of
Yangshuo and visit West Street, crammed
with shops, pubs, cafes and hotels that will
entice you to shop, eat and drink!
Other recommendations include Elephant
Trunk Hill, located at the meeting point of the
Taohua and Lijiang rivers. The hill gets its
name from the fact that it looks just like an
elephant taking a drink from the river! The
Longji rice terraces wind around the contours
of the hills and are probably one of the most
photogenic sights in all of China.
Apart from Yangshuo, top shopping spots
include the underground bazaar near
the train station and the night market on
Zhongshan Lu.
What’s the
Weather?
Humid, monsoon-influenced sub-tropical
climate with mild winters and long, hot and
wet summers. The monsoon lasts from March
to August, while autumn and winter are dry.
Guilin’s Top
Food Picks
The city’s “three treasures” are: Guilin
chilli sauce, Sanhua wine and pickled tofu.
Some must-try dishes include Guilin rice

VOLCANIC
Venue
Jeju Island is the southernmost and
largest island off the Korean peninsula and
is home to the country’s highest mountain.
The 1,950m Mount Halla, or Hallasan, is a
dormant volcano that last erupted 25,000
years ago. It was that massive eruption
that is responsible for the landscape of
caves, lava columns, cliffs, craters and
cones. There are plenty of hiking trails in
this UNESCO-designated area.
KA’s Busan team also recommends visiting
Manjang Cave, one of the longest lava
tubes in the world and home to many
rare species. Temperatures inside the
cave range from 11°C to 21°C, providing a
favourable environment year-round. It is
also academically significant as rare species
live in the cave.
“Olle” is a word in the local dialect referring
to the paths between houses that crisscross
the island. Since 2007, some have now
been incorporated into a network of hiking
trails, while more routes are currently under
exploration. Visitors can follow the blue and
yellow ribbons to travel along the Olle trails.

Temperate, semi-arid climate with hot,

falls from August to October, and dust

pigs are famous for their black hair, and
notably have long faces, narrow snouts and
small ears that stand up! The meat has a
chewy texture and is nutritious, but oddly does
not have the distinctive smell of pork.

We’ve got a lot of athletic types among Dragonair staff, with many
regularly running 10km, half marathon and full marathon races.
One of them is Jacky Fang, Cargo Service Officer, Xiamen – and
he’d recommend his city’s marathon for those of you looking
for a new running experience. “Xiamen is the perfect place for a
marathon, thanks to its mild climate, especially in January when
the Xiamen International Marathon takes place, and the many
locations in the city that are suitable for the sport,” he says.
Superb Service
Mary Pau has just been appointed Manager Service Delivery of our
HKIA team, taking over from Ambrose Ng. Mary is looking forward
to her new challenge, and takes the opportunity here to explain
about KA HKIA and its role.
“My job is to develop, control, measure and
maintain levels of performance in all areas
of ground service at HKIA for KA operations,
and at the same time provide a cost-effective
level of service that will ensure passengers
consider Dragonair as their preferred
airline,” says Mary. “One of my key
accountabilities is to engage the airport and
other authorities to fulfil KA’s operational
requirements at the airport.”
Mary and her team are preparing to face a
number of challenges to ensure an effective
and efficient performance in view of KA’s
expansion as well as the PSS Phase II
Cutover. “We will work closely with our
service providers at HKIA in order to upkeep
the KA brand,” she says.
She’s using the experience and knowledge
she gained in her previous roles as

new position. “My relationship with the
airport community, including the Airport
Authority, government bodies and other
airline operators, brings benefits to my new
role. With the current operations and future
expansion of Dragonair, I foresee a lot of
opportunities to work more closely with the
KA team such as ISD, Ground Services and
Corporate Communication, as well as the
outports.”
Ambrose Ng has more than 30 years of
experience in the airline industry, and has a
long working history with both KA and CX in
the airport services area. His new assignment is
Manager Shanghai Airport Project. Immediately
prior to Manager Service Delivery – KA HKIA,
which he took up in 2008, he was Assistant
General Manager – Airport Services, Acting
General Manager – Ground Services for KA
since 2005. In the previous two years, he had
been Manager Airport Services (KA), following
three years as Manager Airport Facilities (KA).
Mary has been with the CX Group since
1976 when she joined as a member of the
ground staff and was heavily involved in
the move from Kai Tak to Chek Lap Kok in
1998. “It is the people and good teamwork
at HKIA that motivates me to work hard
and strive for improvements, even after all
this time. I am proud to be one of the HKIA
members”
“I really enjoyed working with the KA HKIA
team, as well as the KA HQ team. It is team spirit
and team work that make HKIA a success,”
says Ambrose. The tasks he will remember the
most are the challenging times when he and
his team had to handle various disruptions for
flight delays as a result of technical issues and
adverse weather conditions, particularly making
arrangements for misconnected passengers.

Xiamen
International
Marathon
The Xiamen International Marathon is one of
the Mainland’s two leading marathons and has
been staged annually since 2003. It has been
deemed an IAAF Gold Label Road Race for
four consecutive years now. The course has a
reputation as being one of the most beautiful
in the world, while another reason for its
popularity is that it awards the first marathon
medals of the year among all global races.
His other recommendation is for new
runners to get some good professional
advice in order to maximise their
performance. Jacky himself began
running for exercise following the SARS
outbreak, when he wanted to find a
healthy activity. “Since then, I have
become addicted to marathon running,”
he says. “After participating in several
10km races, I moved on to the full
marathon. I always trained alone and only
managed to complete the first two races
in four-plus hours. So in 2011, I joined a
marathon camp guided by a professional
coach to improve my skills and speed. I
finally achieved a record of 3 hours and
25 minutes at the 2012 Xiamen event.”
He runs about 50km a week on average,
and fits it in whenever he finds the time,
such as weekends, first thing in the
morning or on his way home.
Support comes from his family and his
colleagues. He does try to encourage his
work friends to run, too. However, he says
they keep telling him they don’t have time!
”Yet I think if you take running seriously, you
will find no excuse to avoid it,” he notes,
adding that running outdoors can help keep
people healthy and vigorous. “For those
who need to do shift work, the exercise can
keep them energetic,” he says.
Jacky is adamant that the sport not only
enhances one’s health, but also strengthens
one’s perseverance and determination
for self-enhancement, bringing life-long
benefits. “The marathon offers an ultimate
enjoyment beyond words, fascinating
people of all ages from all walks of life,”
he notes. “Those who enjoy running find
unexplainable pleasure and an enormous
sense of happiness from the sport.”
In addition, he sees a parallel between
sporting and work performance. “Marathon
running requires training, speed, strength
and scientific training. Likewise, we need to
focus on the quality of our work, too.”

The PVG Cargo Team gather to celebrate International Women’s Day,
and in particular to honour the three women who work in the team
and thank them not just for their hard work but also the happy, relaxed
atmosphere they bring to the office.
Colleagues show off the latest ISD training mobile app for
iPhones and iPads, aimed at helping crew members enhance
their Putonghua skills. The app is the first of its kind in the
airline industry. It represents a breakthrough by the Cabin
Crew Training and Development team and heralds the arrival
of a new training era.
Pineapple Express
More than 200 delegates from Hong Kong and outports pack
the Multi-purpose Hall for the 2012 Dragonair Management
Conference and enjoy signature dishes from the Hong Kong
Delights Menu during a coffee break. A total of 120 pineapple
buns were consumed in 10 minutes!

健康人生
港龍航空有不少運動健將,定期參加10公里長跑、半馬及全馬賽事,廈
門貨運服務主任方志成(Jacky)便是其中之一,他更向追求全新長跑體驗
的同事推介廈門的馬拉松賽事。「廈門非常適合馬拉松運動,一月舉行
廈門國際馬拉松時氣候宜人,城內各處都非常適合長跑。」
Jacky亦建議初接觸長跑運動的人士尋求專
業意見,以提高表現。在非典型肺炎爆發
期間,Jacky意識到健康的重要性,於是開
始跑步,並表示:「從那以後,一旦跑起
來,我就再也沒停下過,不能自拔。參加
了幾次十公里賽程後,我直接報名參加了
全程。由於一直是自己一個人練,前兩次
要四個多小時才能完成,至2011年參加了
有教練的馬拉松訓練營,質和量都日益突
破,成績一下子提高到3小時25分。」

松,他更鼓勵同事一起參與,但同事總
推搪說沒有時間。「其實只要把跑步當
作一件必須完成的正事去做,就沒有藉
口了。」他更表示戶外跑步讓人精力充
沛,保持健康。「對輪班同事來說,是
百益而無一害。」
Jacky認為長跑不但強健體魄,也能
培養跑手的毅力和奮鬥心,讓人終生
受益。「奔跑帶來的是難以言喻的
享受,令多少英雄豪傑或平民百姓沉
迷。喜歡跑步的人一定從中體會到外
人難以理喻的快樂,而快樂才是幸福
的源泉。」
另外,他認為運動也與工作表現有
密切的關係。「要提高馬拉松跑步成
績,不但要確保相當的跑量,還要有
速度、力量等方面的科學訓練,如同
工作時不但要有量,還要有質。」

馬拉松
一名乘客從上海前往香港途中發現把手提
電話遺留在機場休息室,於是向機艙服務
員鍾煒棟(Carl)求助。Carl的熱心幫忙令
乘客讚賞有加,特別來函致謝。「Carl馬
上替我聯絡地勤人員,請他們尋回手提電
話,並在旅途上主動向我匯報情況,讓我
感受到港龍周到體貼的服務。Carl態度親
切,主動助人,服務卓越。」
及時之助
農曆新年期間,一對夫婦從高雄經香港飛
往澳洲,旅途上獲港龍同事主動幫忙,特
意致函感謝他們的周到服務。他們到達高
雄機場後發現未有辦理簽證,於是運務員
傅冠雲(Peter)便立即替他們聯絡旅行社,更
直接與旅行社對話,在數分鐘內完成網上
簽證申請。二人又發現香港往澳洲的旅程
未獲安排相連座位,Peter
馬上替他們調動座
位,並準備新的登機
證。兩位乘客在信

最新動態
港龍於十二月的初步展示後已選出較為突出
的幾款設計,並邀請需要穿著制服的同事發
表意見,同時向香港及上海的顧客收集意
見。地勤同事及機艙服務員同事亦進行了初
步的實用功能測試,逾六成同事給予新設計
正面評價,更有逾七成顧客歡迎新設計,認
為新制服的感覺專業和高貴優雅。總括而
言,同事及顧客都認為全新設計融合了姊妹
設計師劉培基於四月中向主席史樂山、董事兼
執行委員會主席朱國樑、行政總裁楊偉添、新
制服督導委員會及管理層第二次展示全新的港
龍航空制服。
啟迪航空新一代
帶領行業創未來
參與港龍青年航空學院的同事最近可謂馬不停蹄,因為新一屆港龍航空飛行
證書計劃的學員已正式展開培訓。學院亦於早前舉辦「機艙服務員面面觀」
活動,透過經驗分享、模擬個案和示範等,讓大學生有機會了解機艙服務員
的工作。另外,學院正積極招募同事擔任學院義工。
航空國泰航空制服的風格,既提升集團的
凝聚力,亦同時保留港龍的獨特風格。
為了將設計變成制服,港龍已委任技術顧
問開始有關工序。港龍將於下半年邀請更
多香港及外站的地勤同事及機艙服務員同
事試穿新制服,並將意見轉交設計師及技
術顧問,以便於正式推出前作最後修改。
港龍航空飛行證書計劃
全新合作夥伴
卓越服務 精益求精
港龍航空飛行證書計劃是港龍青年航空學
院的旗艦活動。今年共有三家機構及八位
機師學長新加入計劃。外界對計劃的反應
十分熱烈,報名人數較去年增加逾三成,
我們最終選出二十四位學員,包括十二名
公眾人士,以及十二名來自香港航空青年
團的團員。在為期八個月的計劃中,共有
11間機構參與,而每位學員也會獲安排一
位機師學長提供個人指導。
我們非常歡迎消防處、香港警察及德國漢
莎膳食服務(香港)有限公司成為合作夥
伴。相信大家對消防處及香港警察已非
常熟悉,而漢莎則為港龍的空中餐膳供應
商。三間機構對香港航空業的貢獻固然良
多,他們成為計劃的一份子後,更讓年青
人從更多角度了解航空業的多元發展。
鮑劉蓓蓮(Mary)剛接替伍華超(Ambrose)出任香港國際機場航空服務
經理,她對新崗位非常期待,並藉此機會介紹香港國際機場(HKIA)
港龍團隊及其角色。
消防處的機場消防隊在機場停機坪設有兩
間消防局及兩個海上救援停泊處,專責為
香港國際機場提供救援及滅火服務。計劃
學員將有機會參觀機場消防隊設施,以及
了解各種先進救援滅火設備及器材 。
Ambrose表示:「我很喜歡與HKIA港龍團
隊及總部的同事共事。全靠大家發揮團隊精
神,群策群力,HKIA團隊才能見證今天的成
功。」談到他最難忘的經歷,他指是與同事
處理因技術故障或惡劣天氣而延誤的航班,
特別是為錯失轉機航班的乘客安排轉機。

港龍青年航空學院現正招募同事擔任今年各
項活動的義工,在此衷心感謝已報名同事的
熱心支持,亦呼籲更多同事加入義工行列。
義工的工作分為兩類,一為協助籌備及統籌
港龍青年航空學院的活動,例如擔任活動接
待人員,以及導覽人員,帶領學員參觀港龍
大廈、航空交通管制塔及其他航空設施。二
為網上學習專責小組,負責就航空業的不同
範疇編製電子學習材料,例如飛機機械及安
全的資訊和空中餐膳的有趣資訊等。
如有興趣在工餘時間參加義工活動,請電

註明「港龍青年航空學院義工服務」。
另外,學員亦可參觀機場警署,了解香港
國際機場的警力安排及機場特警組的工作。
漢莎每天為由香港起飛的航班準備數以千
計的空中餐膳,參與學員會參觀漢莎於機
場的總部,了解準備空中餐膳的特別程序
及食物安全要求。
機艙服務員面面觀
除了參與港龍航空飛行證書計劃,本地年
青人亦可參加港龍青年航空學院舉辦的其
他活動,例如月初於港龍大廈舉辦的機艙
服務員工作坊,半天的活動便吸引了逾百

伍華超(Ambrose)涉足航空業逾30載,在
港龍航空及國泰航空任職機場服務崗位
多年。他最近獲委任為上海機場項目經
理。Ambrose於2005年出任港龍機場服務部
副總經理,至2008年晉升為航空服務經理—
香港國際機場。在此之前,他曾任職機場服
務部經理以及機場設備部經理。

行政總裁的話
今期《港龍簡訊》介紹了港龍航空的業務發展方向,包括擴大機隊、擴展
網絡及增添團隊陣容。隨著亞洲特別是中國內地市場需求增長,我們亦乘
勢大展拳腳。
港龍航空的業務日益壯大,航機、航點、載客量和班次相繼增加,加上
更完善的機艙設施、新制服和陣容更強的團隊,不但顯示港龍已準備就
緒把握亞洲的業務機會,更為全體同事帶來裨益。
港龍管理層於2月21日會議上提及的發展方
向,將惠及香港和外站各個崗位的同事。未
來固然有不少考驗,但亦會惠及整個集團,
故港龍航空及國泰航空必須通力合作,透過
雙方的協同效益發揮更龐大的網絡優勢,加
強香港作為航空樞紐的地位,為兩間航空公
司帶來更多乘客和業務。
更強機隊
港龍今年購置了六架飛機,兩架A320空中
巴士將於下月投入服務,其餘兩架A320和
兩架A330空中巴士亦將於今年稍後投入服
務,令航機數目增至38架,亦讓港龍得以
善用航機、增加班次和開設新航點。
更多航點
港龍致力發掘市場潛力,以把握中國內地
和亞洲其他地區的業務發展機會。我們現
正陸續恢復三條航線,包括於4月1日重開
的西安線,以及分別於5月1日及14日重
開的桂林線及台中線。另外亦會增設南韓
濟州島、泰北清邁及菲律賓克拉克等新航
點。

增加載客量及班次
為配合市場不斷增加的需求,我們也增加
部份航點的載客量和班次。由3月25日起,
港龍將每周加開四班航機前往寧波,令每
周班次增至14班,另外亦每周加開兩班至
沖繩的航班,令班次增加至每周四班。由5
月1日起,前往青島的航班將增加三班至每
周十班,而由3月25日起,前往昆明與廣州
的航空會升級至A330空中巴士,而前往廈
門的航機則於5月1日升級。
更佳的機艙體驗
港龍致力提升服務質素和水平,因此將會
升級部份機艙設備,包括座椅、機上娛樂
和Wi-fi無線上網服務,為乘客締造更完美
的飛行體驗。
另外,我們亦會繼續與香港和外站的知名
食府合作,推出新穎精緻的時令美食,例
如香港JW萬豪酒店頂尖食府萬豪中菜廳及
文華東方酒店著名的文華扒房+酒吧便由
四月中起成為機上餐膳合作夥伴,與此同
時,我們更會推出網羅多款東南亞美食的
全新亞洲美食系列。
港龍更會呈獻一系列更實用的全新免稅商
品,並配合現已於內地推出的送貨服務。
近期的機上銷售額非常理想,於2011年的
銷售額已上升30%,相信這項新服務將讓
港龍再創佳績。
空中新口味
全新形象
在芸芸發展計劃之中,最明顯的改變便是全
新的港龍制服。我們邀請了本地著名設計師
劉培基為機艙服務員和地勤同事重新設計制
服,從構思設計概念、收集意見、製作樣
版、試身、修改細節以至最後生產,過程雖
然複繁,但港龍仍一絲不苟。目前計劃進展
良好,有關計劃最新消息請參閱第04頁。
鞏固陣容
擴大團隊陣容和增加在職員工的晉升機會亦
是令人振奮的消息。港龍將通過本地招募
計劃,於今年招聘約35名見習機師及約40
名駐守香港的副機長。與此同時,招募機艙
服務員的計劃亦進行得如火如荼,我們於
2011年已有超過300名機艙服務員加入,今
年的目標是再招聘約450人。

由四月中起,香港JW萬豪酒店知名食府
萬豪中菜廳為港龍供應各式中式美食。從
香港往北京及上海的所有乘客,以及往台
北及高雄的頭等及商務艙乘客可品嚐萬豪
中菜廳的美食,港龍亦首次將知名食府美
食推廣至香港前往南京、成都、杭州、青
島、昆明、寧波及福岡等航線的商務艙乘
客,讓更多旅客一嚐與萬豪中菜廳合作的
全新空中餐膳。
港龍亦首度與香港文華東方酒店合作推出
西式美食。由4月16日起,往北京和上海
的頭等及商務艙乘客便可品嚐由此星級酒
店特別炮製的美食。
另外,港龍更由四月中起為北京及上海航
線的商務艙乘客獻上全新亞洲風情美饌,
匯聚新加坡、馬來西亞、泰國、日本、
韓國、越南、印尼及菲律賓等各地特色
美食。
全新上海空中餐膳合作夥伴亦將由5月1
日起為上海出發的航班供應美饌,其中
上海新天地朗廷酒店「明閣」將為所有
客艙乘客供應中式美食,上海和平飯店
的「華懋閣」則會為頭等及商務艙乘客
獻上西式佳餚。
