Stoke Park, tiber 100 Jahre alt, begeistert: Harry Shapland
Colt hat ein Meisterwerk abgeliefert, die 27 Spielbahnen im
Park elegant angelegt.Uralte Biiume, idyllische Seenund heimtiickische Bunker siiumen den Weg. Fiir Anftinger ist der Platz
weniger geeignet:Lange,prdzise Drives sind aus der TeeBox gefragt, sonst ist das Scorearg gefiihrdet. Die Greenssind schnell

the World" aufgeftihrt ist, verwundert nicht. Grossartig auch
die Infrastruktur: Im White Palacegibt's zwei erstklassigeRestaurants, filmreife Bars, 49 luxuriiise Zimmer und ein riesiges
Spa. Kurz vor Wimbledon kann man hier auf Tennisweltstars
treffen - weil's hier die gleichen Rasenplfltzewie in Wimbledons
Centre Court gibt.
Zum Weltklasseplatz passt ein Weltklassehotel: The Dorchester im Herzen Londons, gefiihrt vom Schweizer General
Manager Roland Fasel, ist zurzeit in Hochform. Vor allem die
Restaurantssind unglaublich gut: Alain Ducassedelegierte mit
Jocelyn Herland einen seiner bestenjungen Chefsauf die Insel;
der erkochte sich soeben den dritten Michelin-Stern. Hongkongs Lifestyle-Ikone Sir David Tang eriiffrrete eine Etagetiefer'
China Tang,ein exzellentesRestaurantmit gradliniger kantonesischer Kiiche (nicht verpassen: Dim Sum, Peking Duck!) und
gewaltigem Promi-Aufmarsch. .
But Goldfinger was not the only movie to be associated with the
course. "Tomorrow Never Dies" and "Bridget Jones's Diary'', in
which Rende Zellweger sought to win Hugh Grant's heart, were both
filmed here. Film-worthy in its own right, at least for a golf thriller, is
hole 7. The par 3 acrossthe large lily-pad-covered pond served as the
inspiration for the renowned hole number 12 of the Augusta National's "amen corner".
More than a century old, Stoke Park is a delight course architect
Harry Shapland Colt created a masterpiece with his elegant design
of the course's 27 fairways in a park setting. Ancient trees, idyllic
lakes and challenging bunkers line the course, which is certainly not
suitable for novice duffers. The course calls for long, precise drives
from the.tee in order for the golfer to achieve anything resembling a
presentablescore.The greens are fast and true. It is no surprise at all
to find Stoke Park listed in the rating "Top 100 Courses in the Woild".
The course infrastructure is equally fantastic. The White Palace is
home to two first-class restaurants, some film-worthy bars, 49 luxurious rooms and a huge spa. Just ahead of Wimbledon tennis tournament, a couple of top players come here because the grass here is
the same as atWimbledon's Centre Court.
A world-class golf course deservesnothing lessthan a world-class
hotel. The perfect match in this caseis the Dorchester in the heart of
London. With Switzerland's Roland Fasel as general manager, the
Dorchester is in top form these days. Its restaurants in particular are
incredibly good: Alain Duchssedelegated Jocelyn Herland, one of
his best young chefs, to run the show here. Herland promptly earned
a third Michelin star. One floor down, Hong Kong's lifesryle icon Sir
David Tang opened China Tang, an excellent restaurant with
straightforward Cantonese cuisine (be sure to try the Dim Sum and
Peking Duck!). This eatery is a great place to spot celebrities, too. .
