Hello Everyone: Here we are another month closer to our General Election. The complete list of early voting sites
and times can be found on the Clark County Election Department web page, www.clarkcountynevada.gov/election/
Pages. The deadline to register is October 8th, so PLEASE call all your democratic leaning friends and relatives and
make sure that they are registered and ready to vote. You will also find the list of places and times for early voting
on the Clark County site. Early voting begins on October 22 nd and runs through November 4th. The County Party
and Hilary Clinton campaigns are also looking for people to give rides to the polls, both for early voting and on
Election Day. This campaign has progressed from merely hateful to unbelievably mean and nasty on the part of
Donald Trump and his minions. Anyone who watched the debate earlier this week should know who is the most
dignified, prepared and ready to serve as President of the United States and I will give you a hint, it is NOT Donald!
Hillary will work hard for the issues we all face, but most importantly, she will work to show that women and girls
will have equal opportunity to rise to the top as well.
Winning the Presidency is a must this election for it will determine the makeup of the Supreme Court for the next
generation. This election is too important to not be involved and committed to Elect Democrats all the way from
the top of the ticket to the bottom. Each and every seat is important to us to hold to build and strengthen work that
has begun, work that will benefit all of our citizens from the youngest to the oldest regardless of race, religion or
economic status. Register voters, make phone calls, walk precincts, enter data, host a house party or anything you
can do in addition to contributing to the candidate or candidates of your choice. Do not think that any amount of
help or money won’t matter, it definitely does. Off my soapbox for now, but with only a little more than one month
till election, you will hear it again next month.
Our Very special guest this month for our luncheon meeting is our very own Congresswoman Dina Titus. She is always a welcome guest and should
have lots to say about the upcoming election and why we all need to give it all we’ve got to elect Hillary.

Women’s Democratic Club of Clark County lost a dear friend and life-long member, Thalia Dondero.
She was a trail blazer, who made it possible for women to aspire for any public office and win. As the
first female County Commissioner back in 1972, Thalia refused to bring coffee for the all male County
Commission and let them know she wasn’t their secretary! She would say, “I was elected the same as
you and we are all equal”. They soon learned as did we all that Thalia Dondero would, not only, serve
her constituents with great integrity, but our entire community as Chair. She was a very humble woman
who always had a smile and kind word for those that knew her and those that she just met.
She lived a beautiful life and we will all miss her. She is with the love of her life, Harvey Dondero and
she probably filling him in on everything he missed! Our condolences to the entire Dondero Family as
the loss of their mother, grandmother and matriarch.
May the angels bring you home.

Through the years, we’ve had the most phenomenal women as life-long members of Women’s Demo. Two such women, who touched our
hearts, and changed the lives of many in our community and throughout our State have passed their torch to a new generation of women
who, hopefully, will exemplify what these two incredible women emulated.
We give honor and remember them both by admiring their greatest attributes. The Bonnie Bryan Spirit Award will be given at our next Spotlight event. Senator Richard Bryan has already consented to be present for the first annual award in honor of his wife, and First Lady of Nevada, Bonnie Bryan. The Thalia Dondero Trailblazer Award will be given at our next Women’s Equality luncheon in August, 2017, and Marilyn
Dondero Loop will be the presenter.
Both, kind of heart and tremendously illuminating spirits, we will miss them dearly. It is our hope that these awards will be as meaningful to
the recipients as they are to Women’s Democratic Club of Clark County.
Let’s begin the process of finding our first recipients. If you have a suggestion, please give it to Barbara Aupperle or any Board member. As
Hillary says, we are better together!

Early voting starts Oct. 22 in Nevada, and the stakes could not be higher. The Silver State will play a critical
role in shaping the future of our country, and we have the opportunity to make history by electing Hillary
Clinton our next president and Catherine Cortez Masto as Nevada’s next senator. These two women will fight
tirelessly to ensure everyone in Nevada has a fair shot to succeed and take part in the American Dream.
Hillary Clinton and Catherine Cortez Masto know that we need an economy that works for everyone. They
are committed to immigration reform and protect DREAMers and their families from being torn apart. They
will never give up fighting for a fair minimum wage, ensuring women get equal pay for equal work and protecting Social Security and Medicare for generations to come.
With Hillary Clinton in the White House, Catherine Cortez Masto in the Senate, and Ruben Kihuen and Jacky
Rosen in the House of Representatives, Nevadans will know that Washington is fighting for them.
The contrast with Republicans, meanehile, could not be starker. And that is why we must work so hard to win
in November.
Donald Trump is waging a bigoted campaign focused on denigrating women, immigrants, Muslims and people of color. This man has channeled years of hateful Republican rhetoric and policies. He is the culmination
of years of obstruction and unprecedented disrespect. He would be a disaster for Nevada and the country.
There has never been a more dangerous nominee for president than Donald Trump, and Joe Heck is one of
his most ardent supporters.
Special interests – funded largely by the Koch brothers – are flooding Nevada with millions of dollars in dark
money to buy the election for Republicans. And they are working especially hard for their puppet, Joe Heck. It’s no surprise that Heck voted with
the Kochs 90 percent of the time in the last year on legislation designed to boost the super-rich at the expense of middle class Americans.
With such high stakes and record amounts of special interest money attempting to tip the scales, it is more important than ever that we present a
united front at the ballot box.
While I wish I could keep fighting for Nevada in the Senate forever, I know our state will be in good hands with our outstanding Democratic candidates. I will be working non-stop from now until Election Day to keep Nevada blue, and I am counting on you all to do the same. Let’s get to
work.

A Message From Michelle Kwan
As an Olympian, I remember very clearly how excited I was to receive
my red, white and blue Team USA gear, because the happiest part of the
competition for me was being able to represent my country. As a daughter
of immigrants, I’m humbled everyday in knowing that their hard work in
this country of opportunities paved the way for my achievements. But not
every child is as lucky as I was -- the truth is that even here in America, in
the land of infinite possibilities, there many who face barriers to achieving their full potential.
After I retired from figure skating, I went through a phase of professional
and personal transitions -- I wanted to dedicate myself to doing work that
made a difference in our society, and be able to give back to my community. I pursued a degree in political science and international relations - and continued on to get a master's in foreign policy. Since then, I’ve
been incredibly fortunate to be able work on initiatives to help lift up hard
-working Americans, with none other than Hillary Clinton, the ultimate
Glass Breaker. I joined the campaign in its infancy because I believe that
Hillary Clinton is the most qualified presidential candidate in history and
her work as a champion of women’s rights is an inspiration to me, and to
women and girls everywhere. She is an incredibly dedicated public servant and one of the single most qualified candidates for the presidency that
our country has ever seen.

We are at a seminal moment in history, for the first time in our country’s
nearly 250-year existence, we have the opportunity to help a woman
break through the highest glass ceiling in the world and become the next
President of the United States. It’s about time. As we near the centennial
of women’s suffrage, women across the country can finally cast their vote
for a woman as a major political party’s presidential nominee, Hillary
Clinton.
Forty-three years ago, women faced countless barriers in the workplace making it hard to advance and hold position of authority. They could be unjustly fired for being pregnant, did not have a voice to take legal action on workplace sexual harassment.
We were deprived of rights to control our own bodies and didn’t have access the morning after pill. In the past 43 years we
have made significant progress securing the right for women to serve their country on the front lines, and made it a constitutional right to choose. Despite the progress we’ve made, our fight for equality continues.
Here in Nevada, there are countless women also working to break the glass ceilings they face in all facets of their lives. We
need to raise awareness and empower women because in the state of Nevada, women working full time year-round had median
earnings of $35,993—just 85 percent of the median man ($42,294). Women are the head of nearly 128,000 households in Nevada and represent nearly 50 percent of the state’s population. When combined, Nevada women working full time lose over
$2.4 billion every year due to the wage gap. These issues are more daunting for women of color. Latinas in Nevada making on
average 52 cents for every dollar a man makes, while women in African-American households earn roughly 64 cents for every
dollar earned by a white man, well below the national average. Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) women in Nevada
earn 68 cents for every dollar earned by a white male.
Despite the distractions that have dominated this election season, I urge for us to cut through the noise and come together to
speak honestly and earnestly about women’s rights and equality. I recently participated in Glass Breakers, where I joined with
women across Nevada -- of different ages, backgrounds, ethnicities, and political affiliations -- to unite in an effort to win the
support of voters for Hillary Clinton, and confront the barriers women face in the workplace and beyond. Clinton is the only
candidate in this race with the record and vision to fight for the issues that matter most to women and their families. We need a
president that fully understands the struggles and barriers women face and one who is committed to fighting for our rights. I am
putting my trust in Hillary Clinton because she has been fighting for women for her entire life. And now it is our turn to fight
for her.

I’m With Her

I’m with her not just because she’s a woman. I’m with her not just because I’m against him. I’m with her not just because she’s the only
sane one in the race.
I’m with her because I love my country. I’m with her because she has been an advocate for every issue I’ve believe in. I’m with her because she has the intellect and courage to persevere against dangerous rhetoric. I’m with her because she is the most qualified person to be our next
President.
We love our country and we are great. The last thing we need is a vulgarian sociopath creating turmoil and telling us he will make us
great again! These are code words for racism and bigotry and we are better than that.
This election cycle has been the most evil spirited, divisive messaging we’ve ever witnessed. The media has been complicit in bringing
tainted and skewed reporting by allowing this con man, media spin artist, and liar to play them throughout the progression of the 2016 election
coverage. He has used his skill to frame his message and has hired Alt Right hacks to further his messaging. His surrogates, Alt Right operatives,
continue to be invited on news stations and are allowed to lie, embellish falsehoods, and continue conspiracy theories that are legends in their own
minds.
His birther fabrications became his mantra. For over five (5) years, he has received unrivaled coverage. This goes to the very heart of
what is wrong in America today. There was a time when patriotism to country would have “trumped” his disruptive and contentious allegations
with a swift reply. But, for five years, the media has perpetrated this falsehood, this un-American message that has been allowed to fester and bring
about the Alt Right conspiracy theorists and all their intolerance for the very principles that founded this country. They claim there are the Constitutional geniuses that can quote, paragraph and sentence, making them more American than those that can’t. It is insulting to all of us who love our
country to accept this message. We are better than this!

For all of us watching the debate on Monday, September 26th, we saw a want-to-be stand on the same stage as a leader. The world
was watching. There was no doubt who has the temperament, judgment and ability to be President of the United States and 80 million people
witnessed Hillary’s brilliance.
Question after question, Trump proved he had no knowledge of history or what our word means around the world, nor did he do any
homework to learn or care. His answers had no depth or significance and began unraveling as the minutes ticked away! His lack of understanding, his blustering, his consistent interruptions (reminded me of a child whose mom is on the phone and he is demanding attention), his sniffling,
his need for continual sips of water (indicating he was choking on answers and stalling for time), his slumping over the podium (he had no stamina), his facial expressions (he’s no novice of how TV works), and his all-around demeanor told the story of how unfit he is to be President of the
United States.
The most egregious faux pas was after the debate where he made excuses for his poor performance by blaming a bad microphone and
the possibility someone did something to rig it against him! It couldn’t have been because he wasn’t prepared. As parents, we teach our children and grandchildren to accept responsibility for their actions and we hold them to that standard. Why or why would we not hold that same
standard for this man who fails at every opportunity to say he made a mistake, he misspoke, he was sorry, and he apologizes! These are basic
character flaws that make him emotionally devoid or withholding and preclude him from presidency in the White House.
