UMG Takes Turkey Bowl XV; Capitol
Gobbles Trophy
The 15th Annual Turkey Bowl was played Saturday
in Nashville, with UMG prevailing for the 12th year of
the music business football festival. Clad in pink jerseys
-- insert own joke here -- UMG bested EMI Christian
Music Group 21-8 in the championship game.
In the first round, EMI Christian Music Group beat
SESAC, Capitol edged Sony BMG (7-6), UMG beat
SOLID (24-2) and William Morris got a bye. To get into
the finals, EMICMG beat Capitol (26-20) and UMG
defeated William Morris (28-6).
UMG tour press specialist Kelly Russell was
named MVP after dominating from her defensive tackle
position. She registered over 10 sacks in the tourney,
including big plays during a couple goal-line stands in
the final game.
UMG suffered two key injuries: UMG A&R
staffer Brian Wright broke his clavicle and MCA VP/
Promotion Royce Risser suffered torn rib cartilage.
Whined Risser on Monday, “If I sneeze I pass out from
pain. That simple. I must not sneeze!”
