CLASS OF 2016 – COMMUNITY SERVICE REQUIREMENT
Seniors graduating in May of 2016 must have 20 hours of community service as a graduation requirement.
The 20 hours must be recorded in the senior’s transcript prior to the graduation ceremony practice in May
of 2016. Community Service Volunteer Log Forms are available in the Guidance Office and on the guidance
edline page. Volunteer logs should be submitted to the guidance secretary on a monthly basis.

programs. A feature of this website allows students to view their high school Bright Futures transcript. All
students planning on post-secondary school education should frequently visit this information website.
ASVAB TEST
Interested juniors and seniors should sign up in Guidance to take the ASVAB Test. Scores on the ASVAB
assist students in identifying vocational and career aptitudes related to numerous careers in the military
and civilian life. For those that took the test on November 10th, score reports will be returned in December.
NATIONAL TESTING
Sign up for the SAT and ACT on-line. Reminder: The new redesigned SAT will begin in March, 2016. Please
visit the college board website for details.

All juniors will be given the SAT free of charge during the school day on March 2nd, 2016.
Colleges are now requesting that students do their testing in the second semester of their junior year in
order to meet the early deadlines in the fall of the student’s senior year.

Guidance News continues...
COLLEGE ADMISSIONS AND APPLICATIONS
Congratulations to seniors already accepted at
colleges and universities. Seniors are reminded to
submit transcript requests and recommendation
requests to their counselor at least two weeks prior
to the deadline set by the college.
FINANCIAL AID FOR COLLEGE
Parents and students planning on applying for
financial aid must complete the Free Application
for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) postmarked after
January 1, 2016. If the FAFSA form is mailed prior
to January 1, 2016, it will not be processed. On-line
FAFSA forms should be available in December at
www.fafsa.ed.gov. Wellington High School hosted a
Financial Aid night for parents in the lecture hall on
November, 5th at 6:30 p.m.
FAFSA WORKSHOP FOR PARENTS
On February 4th at 6:30pm in the Media Center,
there will be a parent workshop for assistance with
the FAFSA application. Parents should have their
2015 taxes available or use their 2014 taxes and
correct the form once it is submitted. Please bring
your tax information and social security information
with you so that the state officials and counselors
can be of help to you.
SCHOLAR DESIGNATION AND MERIT DESIGNATION
DIPLOMAS
The state offers additional designations to the
standard high school diploma. Students may want
to work toward one of these designations. Visit the
“Guidance Department” section of Edline to review
the requirements. Once in the guidance section of
edline the students and parents should select their
child’s graduation year and view the power point
for the specifics. Guidance counselors visited the
English classrooms and reviewed these power points
with the students. Students must sign up in guidance
to take any of the required EOC’s to achieve the
scholar designation.
PARKING PASSES AND SENIOR PRIVILEGE
Any student that wishes to have a parking pass and/
or senior privilege must complete their virtual school
requirement and community service requirement in
order to be eligible.
BRIGHT FUTURES SCHOLARSHIPS
Any senior seeking to acquire any of the Bright
Futures Scholarships must fill out the state financial
aid form at www.FloridaStudentFinancialAid.org/
ssfad/bf starting December 1st, 2015. If this form
is not submitted the student will not receive the
scholarship money.
PSAT
Students that took the PSAT should receive their scores
at the end of November.
PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES
Parent/Teacher conferences are held on most Thursdays
through the school year. Please contact the Guidance
office to schedule a parent/teacher conference. We
ask that parents request the conference by Monday
afternoon for the Thursday conference.

Registering Volunteers

The School District of Palm Beach County
has transitioned to a new system for screening,
and monitoring volunteers. The new “Raptor”
system has been implemented since the beginning
of school. To register as a volunteer a driver’s
license or government ID is required. As of this
week, Wellington High School has 74 volunteers
accumulating approximately 1250 hours. If you are
interested in being a volunteer or have volunteered
in previous years, please visit us during the school
day to register. If an email address is provided during
registration, “Raptor” will forward you a username
and password enabling you to manage your volunteer
hours from any computer with internet services.
The Wellington High School “Mighty Wolverine Sound” Marching Band members have had a
very busy 1st quarter this year, and prepared for their performance in the Florida Bandmasters
Association District Marching Assessment on October 24th. The halftime show theme this year
was “A Night At The Opera,” and we have enjoyed exploring music from ‘Carmen,’ ‘Turandot,’ and
‘The Barber of Seville.’
On Saturday, November 7th the WHS Jazz Bands’ had their Fall Concert at the Wellington
Amphitheater. Donations were collected for the band’s scholarship funds.
Our 3rd Annual “Salute to Veterans” Concert presented by our Wind Ensemble took place
on November 11th. The concert featured patriotic favorites and lots of fun music for all ages.
Special guest soloist were percussionist Eric Rucker. Veterans and active servicemen/women
were our guests. Donations was collected for Forgotten Soldiers Outreach. A dessert reception
followed the program. Please join us at our next concert:
• Thursday, December 10th – our annual Band and Chorus Winter Concert, at 7:00PM, in
the WHS Theater. Admission is free.
The band and boosters are currently fund-raising for new instruments, including the
replacement of all of our marching drums. If you would like to help us, please visit http://

To help support the Wellington High School Band, the Wolverine Band Boosters Association
has a Corporate Sponsorship Program. Sponsorship recognition rewards are available for
donations as low as $100. Donations of $300 and up include Sponsorship Banner display on
the school fences, and donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowable by law. For more

INFORMATION REQUIRED TO ADD A VOLUNTEER?
• First name, last name, date of birth, email
address and phone number are required at a
minimum. The remaining information may be
entered but is not absolutely necessary.
WHAT INFORMATION IS BEING COLLECTED? • The volunteer’s name, date of birth, and (if ID is
provided) photo and partial ID number.
VOLUNTEER ACCESS TO RAPTOR
• When a volunteer is created, an email containing
the volunteer user name and password is
automatically sent to the volunteer.
HOW ARE VOLUNTEER HOURS LOGGED?
• Just like with VIPS, once the volunteer has signed
in for the day, Raptor starts counting their time.
When their volunteer time is complete, they will
have to sign out of the system. If they do not
sign out, Raptor will automatically drop them at
5:00 pm. In the event that their time needs to
be adjusted (i.e. volunteer hours go past 5:00
pm), the volunteer will be able to adjust their
time accordingly.
2015 Fall Visual Arts Program
Secretary of Education Duncan has said, “To succeed today and in
the future, America’s children will need to be inventive, resourceful, and
imaginative. The best way to foster that creativity is through arts education.”
As this country works to strengthen our foothold in the 21st Century global
economy, the arts equip students with a creative, competitive edge.
National Art Honor Society, Art Club and Photo Club are off to a great
start. They organized a show in the Long Distance Learning Lab lobby for
Open House, September 29. Over 50 drawings, paintings and photographs
by the clubs’ members were exhibited. Look for the next exhibit on December
10th in the Theater Lobby. Students may join the Art and Photo Clubs at any
time, many of our meeting are now during lunch.
In October, Ms. J Brown and Ms. B Brubaker presented a watercolor
workshop, “Keeping it FRESH”, at the Annual Florida Art Education
Association Conference in Naples Florida. The workshop was attended by
art teachers from around the state.
The Norton Museum High School Photo Invitational Exhibition is open
until January 3, 2016. Congratulate Bradley Thomas, Courtney Kerezman,
Jenna McKenney and Marilene Rivas-Chavez for their wonderful images
representing Wellington High. The Opening Reception on November 12 was
a wonderful chance to meet the student photographers and see their work
on the walls of the museum.
The Regional Scholastic Arts Competition is now open to all interested
young artists. The work is to be uploaded to www.artandwriting.org and two
copies of the signed, completed entry forms are to be given to Ms. Brown
or Brubaker. If there are any questions, please email: barbara.brubaker@
palmbeachschools.org. This is a juried show, student work has the opportunity
to be recognized as exemplary work with possible Silver and Gold Keys. Work
receiving a Gold Key at the regional competition will be forwarded to the
National Competition in New York City. Upcoming competitions for Wellington’s
Art and Photo students are Artigras and South Florida Fair. Please remember
your students’ visual art program as you plan your charity contributions for
the holiday season.

Class Of 2016
ANNOUNCEMENT, CAP AND GOWN SALES
Caps, gowns, tassels, and graduation announcements will go on sale on
December 3-4, and January 21-22 in the gym lobby during lunch. Purchases
may only be made with the Balfour representatives; no one on campus is
authorized to accept money for graduation paraphernalia. The cap, gown
and tassel are sold as a unit for $35.00. Checks should be made payable
to Balfour. You also have the option of purchasing all products online at
www.balfourfl.com. Cap and gown prices go up after January 31, 2016.
Gowns may be reused. Students may borrow gowns from previous
graduates of 2013, 2014 and 2015. Earlier gowns will not match!
In cases of financial hardship, students in need of a cap and gown
must see Ms. Farris in 2-134 for assistance prior to visiting the Balfour
representative.
GRAD NITE
Grad Nite at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure happens on
April 8, 2016. This year, the event will begin at 7:00 PM and end at 2:00 AM.
(Participants will leave school at 3:30 that day.) Ticket prices to Universal
will include admission to all rides, transportation, and security at school
for vehicles. Tickets will be sold in February starting at $130.00. Ticket
prices will increase by $5.00 each week they are sold in February; please
purchase your tickets early!) A payment plan is available with $25.00 down
and $25.00 a month with the balance paid by the end of February. Refunds
will not be issued after March 1, 2016.
GRADUATION
The graduation date is May 25th at 4 pm in the fairgrounds. Please
note that all seniors who wish to participate in the ceremony are required
to attend rehearsal. That date will be determined soon.

Pre-Vet Academy Students
Learn Pet CPR
Dr. Mark Planco of Planco Veterinary Care
in Wellington graciously volunteered his time to
teach the students in the Pre-vet academy how
to perform CPR on dogs and cats on October 21,
2015. Students learned how to check for a pulse,
do compressions and contrast the different
procedures needed for cats and various sizes of
dogs. Students used dog and cat mannequins
designed for teaching first aid to vet students.
Students just completed a unit on First aid
including how to handle heat stress emergencies,
types of wounds and horse leg bandaging..
Huntington
News from our ESE Dept.
The Jacobs Foundation is a philanthropic organization that
supports programs for education in and around Wellington. Our sincere appreciation goes out to the Jacobs Foundation
for awarding a grant of $13,005 to the Exceptional Student
Education Department. Special needs students require much
individual one-on-one, hands on training. The ultimate goal
is to help each student maximize personal potential. IPADS
have been purchased to meet these critical needs. Mrs. Arlene
Einhorn, paraprofessional in the ESE Department, volunteered
to write the Jacobs Foundation grant to attain the much needed
resources. Mrs. Einhorn has made tremendous contributions to
student and staff needs for funding and resources over the
years. This year she has decided to focus all of her volunteer
efforts on helping meet the needs of the students facing the
greatest daily challenges with whom she works on a daily basis.
Debate Good News
Positive Behavior
A famous philosopher once said, “Wellington Debate ROCKED the HOUSE!”
Another said, “Wellington Debate ROCKS my DIRTY SOCKS!”
Both of these have been proven numerous times thus far during the Red Dawn
Debaters’ 2015-16 Championship Season.
At the October PBCFL in Palm Beach Lakes, the Public Forum Debate team of
Caramen McDaniel and Connor Yeackley, debating whether governments should
place the needs of refugees over their own national interests, went undefeated
and took top honors among more than 30 PFD squads. Caitland Notice placed
third overall in Oral Interpretation with her presentation of 10-minute-long poetry
and prose programs. Victor Sanchez placed sixth in Extemporaneous Speaking,
dealing with current event topic areas such as the United States economy and
International Organizations. The Duo Interpretation team of Gillian Kruisland and
Gabby Vivas placed sixth with their performance of “My Quiet Neighbor.” And
in Congressional Debate, both Mason Graham and Manuel Hernandez placed
sixth in their respective chambers.
The October results continued the string of success Wellington has
experienced this year. At the PBCFL Congressional in September, Wolverine
Nation sent 39 student legislators to Martin County and nearly half earned
accolades. Sanchez took first place in his chamber. Three Wolverines placed
second –Hernandez, Zachary Jacobson, and Scarlet Jasperson. Karina Frandjian
took third. Both Stephanie Rodriguez and Jillian Vulpis earned fourth-place
honors. A trio of Wellington debaters – Sara Casey, Mason Graham and Rafaela
St. Juste – took fifth in their chambers. And five students earned sixth-place
awards: Matias Galguera, Caramen McDaniel, Dallas Nickels, Caitland Notice,
and Emilie Rott. In addition, Casey, Graham, Christopher Slaughter, and Eileen
Wheelen each took home “Chamber’s Choice” gavels as their respective
chambers’ top presiding officer.
In its trip to New Haven, Connecticut, and the Yale Invitational, Sanchez
advanced to the semifinal round of Congressional Debate.
Additionally, Wellington Debate Coach Paul Gaba was honored by the
National Speech & Debate Association with the prestigious “Distinguished
Service Plaque – Second Honors” award. He is the 53rd high school debate
coach to earn the recognition in the NSDA’s 90-year history. Gaba earned the
honors through his work running and hosting debate tournaments, promoting
growth of high school debate in Palm Beach and Martin counties, serving as
a debate league officer, and speaking and writing about high school debate
education.

On Sunday, September 20, 2015 Emily
McClimans, senior, was honored at the
World Peace Day Rotary Club of Wellington
celebration for her winning essay on the
topic of world peace. Emily’s eloquent
reading of her essay earned her a standing
ovation from those gathered. She also
received a $100.00 prize. Emily’s essay
was chosen as the best from Wellington
High School by a panel of readers from the
Rotary Club. Brandon Schloss, sophomore,
was also recognized at the ceremony as the
Palm Beach County Teen Ambassador of the
“Stomp Out Bullying” campaign. We are very
proud of both our students and of how well
they represent Wellington High School.

Rosenwald Toy Drive will be run from October 30th
through November 23rd.This event brings toys and bikes
to an underprivileged students before the holidays. SGA
is seeking toy and bikes donations from our school and
community. On December 4th, 2015 students from
Wellington High School go to Rosenwald Elementary to
deliver the toys and bikes to the students and spend the
day playing games and making arts and crafts with them.
In order to make this event successful we will need the
community’s help by donating bikes and toys that we can
deliver to the students. If anyone is interested in donating
toys, bikes or monetary donations please contact our
student government advisor, Melissa Varvarigos at Melissa.
varvarigos@palmbeachschools.org . All donations are greatly
appreciated.
HOMECOMING SUMMARY
Wellington High School’s Student Government put
on an extremely successful homecoming week containing
hallway decorating, float building, carnival, powder puff,
Mr. Wellington, and the parade. Unfortunately, the weather
did not cooperate with us and left beautiful floats soaked.
We still managed to have a fun filled week with more
participation than ever and ended it with an amazing dance
