Hello Everyone! This is our first effort at updating the
format of our monthly Items of Interest for Marcy‐
Holmes. Undoubtedly, there may be a few technical, or
even aesthetic glitches in this first edition, so please
forgive us in advance. Despite the amount of in‐house
testing we've conducted, there can and will inevitably
be a few formatting issues that might escape us.
We hope you enjoy this first edition, and find it even
more useful than the document you've received from
Marcy‐Holmes for some time.
Feel free to send any feedback to Chris Lautenschlager
at staff@marcy‐holmes.org.

Marcy-Holmes “Box Fresh” Utility Wraps
The Marcy‐Holmes Neighborhood Association (MHNA) has commissioned six local artists
to create original artwork to cover utility boxes throughout Marcy‐Holmes—three are
situated east of 35W, the remaining half are found to the west. Installed at the end of
July, this project adds public art to historic Marcy‐Holmes, enlivening the streetscape
and featuring artwork by people associated with the neighborhood. “I think this is a
really exciting new development for the neighborhood,” said Ben Heywood, Executive
Director of The Soap Factory, an art space in Marcy‐Holmes and one of the managers of
the project. “Marcy‐Holmes is Minneapolis’ oldest neighborhood with a rich and varied
history of support of the arts”. The MHNA and the Soap Factory, sponsored the project.
There will be a walking tour of the utility boxes on Wednesday August 13th at 6:30 pm.
We will be meeting at Central Ave & University Ave and will be concluding in Dinkytown.

What: Common Room: The Trespass Tour
When: Wed, August 6, 6:30 pm
In this tour, we will be engaging in a conversation about the array of boundaries, both
explicit and implicit, that exists in our lives, exploring its meaning and the tension that
arises when we cross those boundaries, whether unintended, by invitation or with
trickster‐ish intention. Join us in the conversation as we bicycle together to explore
these boundaries and trespasses. Transportation: your bicycle. Common Room is a
summer series of tours by Andy Sturdevant and Sergio Vucci, now in its seventh season.
All tours begin outside the main entrance to The Soap Factory on Second Street SE. Get
your tickets: http://www.tempotickets.com/tempotickets/site/pages/event.php?
