Brazilian artists have developed some unique and original styles such as samba, bossa nova, MPB, RAP, sertanejo, Brazilian rock, pagode, tropicalia,choro, maracatu, frevo, forró, axé, brega, and others. Samba has become the best known form of Brazilian music worldwide, especially because of the country's carnival, although bossa nova have received much attention abroad since the 1950s, when the song "Desafinado", interpreted by João Gilberto, was first released. Instrumental music is also largely practiced in Brazil, with styles ranging from classical to popular and jazz influenced forms, featuring composers like Heitor VillaLobos,Pixinguinha and Hermeto Pascoal. The country also has a growing community of modern/experimental composition, including electroacoustic music. Price’s music career began with the widely respected Tonmeister course at Surrey University, where he won the PRS composition prize in 1990. After writing a number of scores for contemporary dance, he became Musical Director of DNA Dance and Music, whose projects included the arts council funded chamber opera “All the Garden Gold”, based on the life of William Morris and the Pre-Raphaelite movement Price has also forged a strong working relationship with fellow composer David Arnold, with whom he has written and arranged on a number of projects, including Edgar Wright’s Hot Fuzz and Sherlock, the BBC television series created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, that premiered on BBC1 on 25 July 2010. Prior to achieving acclaim as a composer, Price enjoyed many achievements as a music editor with films including Peter Jackson’s The Lord Of The Rings trilogy, Richard Curtis’ Love Actually,Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason and Nanny McPhee. Price uses Major and Minor Scales throughout his work. Price structures his music in such a way that there is no room for improvisations. Although there are no vocals in Prices works he uses the many instruments he has at his disposal to create harmonies that compliment the overall melody.
