The first allows parents to sign up their teens for the district summer drivers’ education course. This course is offered on a first come, first served basis, so if you want your teen to take it, you should fill it out and send it back in immediately (front office)! Once the class is full, no other students will be allowed in. The second is a bus transportation form. Only those parents whose child will need bus transportation next year need to fill this out and return it. Current bus riders need to return this form to their bus drivers. If your child is not riding this year but may need bus transportation next year, please fill out the form and have them return it to the front office. Please see Coach Aman to get a form to attend. Ford/AAA Auto Skills Competition The AVCC team placed 4th in South Carolina, a new record for Anderson Five Career Campus. The students had to place in the written exam portion before they could compete in the hands on skills competition. The competition was held at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 3-4th, 2013. Both students received scholarship money in this competition. Spring Football Game The spring football game is this Friday, May 17th at 7:00 pm. We’ll be done by 8:30 pm. We are asking people to bring canned goods to get into the spring game to support Anderson Interfaith Ministries. Two food items (or a $2 donation) will get all patrons into the spring game, with all donations of five food items or more (or a $5 donation) earning a free t-shirt. Drivers’ Permit Test The next Driver’s Permit test will be given at TLH on Wednesday, May 22, 2013. Anyone interested may pick up forms and information in the front office. Students must turn in the following information to be registered for the test: Form received from the front office signed by a parent $5 Administration fee for the exam The form and fee must be turned into the front office before the student is registered for the test. Deadline to turn in this information is Tuesday, May 21, 2013. The test will be administered in Lab 701 immediately after school on Wednesday, May 22, 2013. Other info: The admin fee is non-refundable! There can be no refunds for noshows or for failures. Students must have their own transportation home after the test and must be 15 by the day of the test. TLH Band Call time for Band members for this Thursday night’s Senior Awards Night is 5:45 pm. This event if required of all underclassmen. Students need to wear concert black dress. This is the last week that students can turn in Band Banquet reservations. Please send them in ASAP. Onion deliveries will be mid-week. Tuesday: Jazz Band @ Midway Dismissed at 11:00 Call Time @ Midway 12:00 Noon Two Performances: 12:30 – 1:15, 1:30 – 2:15 Mandatory parent meeting for next year’s color guard members will be on Tuesday, @ 7:15 pm in band room. Thursday: Drumline @ Midway 12:45 – 1:15 1:30 – 2:00 Awards Night at TLH – Call time at 5:45 pm – Required of all underclassmen in 1st and 4th blocks. Friday: Drum Line Tryouts, times TBA Saturday: Drum Line Tryouts, times TBA Reminders and other redundant information: Please remember to return all band pants (cleaned), equipment etc. We are starting Summer Inventory Now. Next year’s show will be a mix of Night in Tunisia, Round Midnight and a song entitled Wild Nights. More information to follow Calendar for next year is attached. Some rehearsal times in regard to Color Guard have been adjusted. As in the past, we will have lunches and snacks served at Band Camp this year at no cost to the students. We have a need for some shelving to go in the Conex Storage Boxes on the Band Field. Any portable shelving will work The School District has agreed to purchase all new pants and gauntlets for the uniforms next year. We need volunteers in every area for next year. Pit Crew, Equipment, Field, Etc. Let us know if you are interested. Chaperones and Lunch Help for Band Camp is also needed. FFA The Anderson FFA Chapter traveled to Clemson University yesterday, May 9, 201,3 to compete in the FFA Piedmont Region Public Speaking Career Development Event. This event included Greenhand Creed Speaking, Upper Creed Speaking, Extemporaneous Public Speaking, and the Prepared Public Speaking Contests. Kaylynn Hippler, Jacob Koch, and Lydia Molack represented Anderson FFA and Anderson School District Five with great honor. We are very proud to say Kaylynn Hippler will move on to the SC State FFA Upper Creed Speaking Contest with a second place win at region. We are also very proud to say Jacob Koch will move on to the SC State FFA Extemporaneous Public Speaking Contest with a second place win. Lydia Molack represented Anderson FFA in the Prepared Public Speaking Contest and did a wonderful job. We are very proud of all three of our students and their hard work for this Career Development Event. If you see any of them, please take a moment to congratulate them on a job well done! Marie O.
