Pasco Sheriff`s Office - Pasco County Sheriff`s Office

For all the success we have accomplished
together as a community, putting criminals in
jail, preventing crime, and helping those in need,
we have hit a crucial point for the Sheriff’s Office
and we need your help.

This is due to a lack of compensation and pay for
our members which is causing Deputies to
depart to other agencies for purely financial
reasons With a growing population, this
shortage of Deputies greatly impacts you.

Those members who are leaving are still
living in Pasco County and are just working

the Tampa Police Department

In 2012, 20 members resigned from law enforcement positions

In 2013, this number increased to 28

already, with 25 more projected by the end of the year

This was a difficult decision to make, and I
have done so with a heavy heart…With the
current pay scale, I have found it very difficult
to provide for them and the life and
opportunities they deserve. My decision to seek
other employment was a family decision, and
was based solely on my financial situation.
 Deputy, SWAT member, 4 year college degree,
over 3 years


This was not an easy decision to make. The
almost six years here have been very
rewarding. I’ve enjoyed working for this agency
and having the honor to serve a very successful
team dedicated to the citizens of this
county….My decision to leave is purely
financial and is not a reflection of this
administration.
 Detective, Property Crimes, 2 year college degree,
over 5 years


It is with a heavy heart that I have been placed
in the position to make this decision which is
based solely on finances for my family as I
find it increasingly difficult to support my
family on the wages offered after 9 years of
employment.
 Detective, Property Crimes, over 9 years
Emphasis added

Although I could not be more satisfied with the
Sheriff’s Office as an agency, I can no longer
justify making sacrifices in order to live within
the financial constraints caused by its lack of
funding.
 Detective in Property Crimes and Vice, over 6
years experience

Public safety is consistently ranked as the
most important issue in Pasco County as well
as throughout the country.

From the time a deputy resigns, it takes an
average of 8 ½ months to hire a replacement
and bring them through all of the required
new hire training before they can answer calls
for service on their own – includes post-offer
testing, orientation, and FTO (field training
with a partner)
Approximately 18% of new law enforcement
members have resigned within their first
year of employment, which means some
positions are effectively never filled, or
filled very briefly before the process
restarts
