A memorial service will be held at 2 Mary (May) p.m., today, Carew Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel. Interment will follow at a later date. Mary, or May as she was known to all, is survived by her loving spouse of almost 50 years, David (Dave) and her adoring daughter, Laura Marie Carew Loftus and nephew, John Gillespie Waugh who still resides in Scotland. May and her husband moved to Enterprise in 2007 from Coos Bay, Oregon. When people would ask May why she and Dave came to Alabama, she would say, “Because the people are so warm and friendly and so is the weather.” May was born in Edinburgh, Scotland as Mary Mailer. She met her husband when he was stationed near Edinburgh. She used to say that she and Dave had “waltzed their way around the world.” They were blessed with their baby girl Laura in 1964. Laura accompanied her parents until her Dad retired in 1979 from the Air Force. Laura, whom her parents are so proud of, followed in her Dad’s footsteps pursuing a military career. She is still serving her country as a colonel in the United States Army, stationed at Ft. Bragg, N.C.
