Manager of Media Relations
Children's Health Fund seeks a Manager of Media Relations to help develop media strategy and secure
media coverage with both traditional and digital media, using a full range of creative publicity tactics.
The Manager should be adept at writing press releases and pitches that clearly articulate complex
issues, developing targeted press lists, cultivating relationships with key media, and supporting
organizational spokespersons. As a content generator, the Manager should also be skilled at framing
talking points, distilling policy briefs to key messages, storytelling about program impact, and
contributing to the Children’s Health Fund website and social media presence.
Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications and collaborating with
its public relations agency, the Manager of Media Relations will generate ideas for and pitch national
and regional stories about Children’s Health Fund programs. The Manager will also represent Children’s
Health Fund in pitching coverage of key policy issues, field media inquiries, coordinate and oversee press
events, and manage media interviews with Children’s Health Fund leadership.
The Manager of Media Relations will also work closely with Children’s Health Fund President Dr. Irwin
Redlener, who is a frequent source for the media on a broad spectrum of issues, including disaster
preparedness and social and economic policies that have an impact on children. The Manager of Media
Relations will coordinate all Dr. Redlener’s interviews and help manage his media planning.
The Manager is responsible for all institutional communications systems including media databases,
press reports, and archives. The position also contributes to departmental administrative management
and functions as part of an integrated Marketing and Communications team working on special events,
the creation of publications, and other activities
Key Qualifications:

Minimum five years experience in a communications department or agency doing hands-on
media relations with demonstrated success. Nonprofit experience in health care and/or
children’s programs/issues a plus.

Strong knowledge of print, broadcast and online media.

Experience creating media strategies and carrying through to execution.

Creative thinker with the ability to conceptualize new ideas and the flexibility to work in a fastpaced, small-shop environment with multiple projects on tight deadlines.

Excellent verbal and writing skills as well as detail-oriented project management skills are
essential.

Experience with the following preferred: Cision, Microsoft Office, Photoshop, and the latest
communications technologies and practices.
