WeaveMaster
Jacquard networking
Being at the forefront of new developments, BMS is proud to introduce a powerful Jacquard
networking module as an extension to its WeaveMaster production management system.
Besides the distribution of patterns, this software module also connects to the company’s
CAD system. Patterns newly created by the designers remain on the server PC in a master
file. Upon sending the pattern to a specific weaving machine, the software converts the
master file to make the pattern suitable for the type of Jacquard head, the tie-up, the type
and position of the selvedge, the weft/filling selector position and other loom type related
elements. This conversion is triggered by the WeaveMaster planning module.
This approach simplifies procedures in the CAD department, saves disk space on the server
and makes back up a lot easier and faster. On top of this, mistakes can be avoided and down
time, waiting on the Jacquard pattern is greatly reduced.
Converting a design into a
Jacquard pattern
The presence of various types of Jacquard controllers and
weaving machines calls for the generation of a different
pattern for each different loom setup. The manual conversion on a CAD system, as well as the logistics needed to keep
track of all these patterns, creates a lot of overhead in the
Jacquard mill.
The BMS Jacquard module offers a transparent solution to
these problems. This software module converts the master
file from the CAD system into a technical pattern file for each
loom type. This software module consists of two parts: a data
base section and a background module.
In the data base section, all technical parameters of each loom,
such as selvedge position and weave, tie-up and weft selector
position are stored. This information is entered once for each
loom in the mill and gradually updated as new machines are
added or changes happen.
The background module is the software which converts the
master file in the appropriate pattern file for the designated
loom, based on the technical information which resides in
the data base. This background software works completely
transparent to the user. The user only has to assign the master
file to the destination loom, no input concerning the changes
in the pattern has to be made.
This very simple and efficient mechanism unloads the CAD
department, freeing up time on CAD work stations for creative
design work.
The Jacquard network
Networking is based on linking the WeaveMaster server through
Ethernet directly to the Jacquard controllers.
WeaveMaster as a monitoring system can offer so-called “file
servicing facilities” which allow the Jacquard operation to
store all Jacquard patterns on the WeaveMaster disk. This avoids
problems managing the many floppy disks coming from the
CAD system on which the Jacquard patterns are stored.
From a video terminal or Windows-PC, the user can retrieve
information about the possible patterns available. Many search
keys allow to retrieve a specific Jacquard pattern.
Patterns can then be downloaded to a specific Jacquard controller or to a given number of machines. The user can also ask
for a list of machines for which a certain pattern is loaded.
WeaveMaster has complete control over the network: patterns
can be sent to a loom manually or triggered by the planning
module, patterns can be deleted or copied, information can
be read from the controllers, etc.
When triggering pattern transfers through the WeaveMaster
planning module, full advantage is taken from the integration of the Jacquard networking with the monitoring system,
since all actions are based on information coming from the
production floor. Upon declaring a style change at a loom’s
Data Unit, the system looks for the next planned style for that
loom and automatically starts the background program which
downloads the correct pattern to that specific loom.
Jacquard controllers
The networking of STÄUBLI JC4 and JC5 as well as GROSSE
controllers requires a special communication board from the
Jacquard head builder. The wiring between WeaveMaster and the
Jacquard controller is preferably a dedicated Ethernet.
In case of BONAS, the WeaveMaster Ethernet network is linked
to a BONAS server which in its turn has full control over the
Jacquard network. WeaveMaster only triggers an action indicating which pattern has to be sent to which loom at which point
BONAS software takes over.
For other types of electronic Jacquard heads please contact
BMS for further information.
CAD design station
BMS offers a CAD software package called MIRA (by TECOS/
Belgium), which integrates with the Jacquard networking
package.
MIRA is a Windows/NT based system which offers a wide
range of design features typical for upholstery, mattress
ticking, labels, carpet weaving and other types of Jacquard
fabrics.
Once the design available, MIRA allows to create the repeat
and the different weaves, to check the length of the flotation
in warp and weft and many other typical Jacquard weaving
functionalities.
The MIRA package, with its extremely user friendly interface,
has proven itself in many Jacquard mills. Integrated with
WeaveMaster, all important functions come from the same
vendor which simplifies service, training and upgrades.
BarcoVision applications
BMS also offers solutions for:
Weaving: monitoring, scheduling, fabric inspection, yarn inventory.
Spinning: monitoring and on-line quality control.
Dyeing and finishing: planning, lot tracking, monitoring, fabric inspection, optimized cutting.
