THE EURO SPACE CENTER IN A FEW WORDS
Opened in June 1991, Euro Space Center is a discovery centre specialising in socioeducational recreation. Our field of specialisation is space.
Euro Space Center has become a leader in Belgium for the dissemination of
knowledge about space sciences and technologies.
Euro Space Center is open to the general public all year round and also welcomes
trainees from many different countries. The goal is to spark a love for the sciences
and innovation.
Euro Space Center and its high-tech environment are unique in Europe. They enable
young people and adults to learn about astronomy, robotics, space engineering and
more. Euro Space Center also lets people (re)discover an exceptional human
adventure : mankind’s conquest of space.

THE PRODUCTS
A. “A SPACE ODYSSEY” MULTIMEDIA EXHIBITION
1. Indoor programme This tour is far more than just an exhibition. It covers an area of about 1,700 m² and
is a real multimedia exhibition and attraction. It’s a journey through time from the
origins of the universe to the most futuristic projects of space exploration. Everything
is done to ensure that visitors experience a real space odyssey.
2. Outdoor programme The site is laid out in the form of a circuit along which visitors discover different
dynamic activities areas that perfectly complement the discovery begun indoors.
n The Europa II launcher and the Skylark probe (both full-size models) ;
n The Armillary sphere, which explains why nights and days are longer or shorter
depending on the time of year ;
n Models of capsules and rockets used for Russian and American space conquest
over the past 60 years. They include Sputnik 1, Sputnik 2, the Saturn V rocket and
the Gemini, Mercury and Apollo capsules ;
n A sundial - the shadow of the person standing at its centre gives the time ;
n A large plant maze representing the Milky Way marked off with 20 questions (contest) ;
n Two impressive antennas (full size) used by the Redu station to track and control
ESA satellites ;
n The solar system and the planets (to scale) ;
n A 6 km spacewalk with wood sculptures representing the myths and legends
of astrology ;
n Sound parabolas that explain the basic principles of telecommunications.
3. A visit with moonwalk simulator access As an additional option to the indoor visit, visitors can try the moonwalk chair, a moonwalk
simulator. They can take a few steps weighing only 1/6th of their actual weight !
4. A visit with planetarium access Another option is a planetarium session (35 seats).

B.SPACEADVENTURECAMPS
Unique in Europe, these educational programmes designed as space training
camps are intended for young people as part of a school project or during holidays.
They include workshops, simulation exercises, observation and presentations on
everything that has to do with space and its exploration. They have already hosted
nearly 100,000 young people from Belgium, Europe and elsewhere.
1.AstronautCamp
Live in an astronaut’s shoes and train with simulators, fly a space shuttle, build
and launch a rocket.
Campobjective:
Enable young people to experience the training designed for astronauts over the past
50 years of space exploration via simulators, training machines, workshops,
experiments and more.
Duration: 2 to 6 days. Participants can lodge on-site or attend during the day only.
Age: 10 to 16.
Programme:
Briefing on the American space shuttle, its operation and the different phases of a
mission. Training to read the information displayed on the screens. Simulation of a
space mission including all of the actual procedures involved in lift-off, orbiting, satellite
launch, docking with the Space Station, re-entry into the atmosphere and landing.

2. Astronomy Camp Get even closer to the stars, constellations and galaxies.
Camp objective :
Observation of the sky, Sun, Moon, planets, nebulas, constellations... Participants
learn to find their bearings in the sky and build the instruments they need to situate
themselves in time (sundial) and space (telescope and star map).
Duration : 4 to 6 days. Participants can lodge on-site or attend during the day only.
Age : 8 to 12.
Programme :
Each trainee chooses a celestial body to observe : the Moon, a planet and its
satellites, the Sun, an asteroid, a star cluster, a constellation, a galaxy, a nebula or...
the International Space Station.
n Brief introduction to the various celestial bodies ;
n Building and using a telescope ;
n Observing with the naked eye and learning to get bearings in the sky. Using binoculars ;
n Using a computer-guided telescope ;
n Drawing and reading a star chart (ecliptic, meridians, the position of celestial
bodies by season, etc.) ;
n Making and using a sundial to tell time ;
n Introduction to meteorites, what they are made of and how to recognise them ;
n Talks and debates : the solar system, the galaxy, deep space, black holes, SETI ;
n In the evening : relaxation, walks, sport, games, cinema.

3. Rocket Camp Levels 1, 2 and 3
Everything you need to know to make your own rocket.
Camp objective : Design, build and launch a rocket. Learn the basic concepts of aerodynamics,
stability, trajectories and propulsion.
Duration : 6 days. Participants can lodge on-site or attend during the day only.
Age :Level 1 : 11 and older
Level 2 : 12 and older
Level 3 : 13 and older
Programmes :
ROCKET CAMP 1 Exploration of the principles of propulsion and stability of rockets in flight. Water
rocket then powder rocket building. Rockets are fired from our launch pad. Following
this first success, trainees build a two-stage rocket then a rocket propelled by three
parallel engines.
ROCKET CAMP 2
This is an advanced training camp in which the concepts of propulsion are further
explored by illustrating them through measurements at a thrust test bench and with
different and more powerful types of engines. Your imagination is also put to the test
to design a rocket recovery procedure. You will use mechanical, electromechanical
and electronic techniques.
ROCKET CAMP 3
The goal is to bring together techniques (welding, assembling electronics
components, door opening/closing systems, a switch to engage the system at the
right time, etc.) and conceptualisation by imagining and designing a minirocket with
a parachute door opening system.
