OUR DAY PACKAGES
The concrete dome of this former launch
site now shelters an exciting exhibition
using new audiovisual technology,
synthetic imaging, 3D screens and tactile
tables, not forgetting the exhibits such as
a genuine V2 rocket and a car used by the
French Resistance. From Nazi folly to the
hidden face of the conquest of space, not
forgetting the darkest hours of the Nazi
Occupation of France, La Coupole offers a
blast back to the past to cast a fresh look
on the present.

cineac Circuit
“Living under Nazi Occupation”
This circuit retraces the major events of the Nazi Occupation
of Northern France: the invasion, exodus, daily life, the
Resistance, collaboration and Liberation.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE CIRCUIT:
A car used by the French Resistance, the reconstitution of a shop-front,
a replica of the“execution wall” in the Citadel in Lille, a Messerschmitt
propeller, an MG34 machine gun, a letter written by a 21-year-old teacher,
Félicien Joly, three hours before being shot by the Germans, etc.
You start by entering a series of vast underground
galleries, to the sound of bombardment and
building site noises echoing around, then a lift
takes you to the museum, 42 metres higher up.
When you arrive under the concrete dome, you
find two projection rooms, each showing an
introductory film to the circuits (20 minutes for
each film).
rex Circuit
“Secret weapons”
The aim: to destroy London. Enter
Peenemünde’s secret laboratories and
find out about the secret weapons
programme and how the Nazis turned
the peaceful dream of conquering
outer space into a nightmare. At the
end of the circuit, track the major
events in the space race, from the V2 to
the first man on the Moon.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE CIRCUIT:
A genuine V2 missile and a 3D film about its
engine; a multi-touch table to zoom in on aerial
photographs, looking at various themes; a
reproduction of “Little Boy”, the atomic bomb
which was dropped on Hiroshima, mock-ups of
rockets on a scale of 1/20e, etc.

Coupole is presenting a temporary
exhibition devoted to the year 1944
and the liberation of the region.
Commissioned by La Coupole,
and created by Laurent Thiery (a
doctorate in history) and Laurent
Seillier (professor of history), it is
a well-documented account of
the latest advances in research on
major themes related to this topic:
the bombings, the Ascq massacre,
the resistance, the military
operations, repression, the activity
of “the guardian angel of the V1” or
the last “train from Loos”. Covering
the period from April 1944 to May
1945, iconography is at the heart of
the exhibition.

From 2003 to 2006, La Coupole
conducted a vast survey to
determine how many men and
women fell victim to the repression
implemented by German troops and
police force, and the Vichy regime’s
armed forces, between 1940 and
1945. The names of nearly 8,000 men
and women (and even children in
the case of Jews and gypsies) scroll
across a screen.
PRACTICAL INFORMATION
OUR DAY PACKAGES
On 1st September 1944, a matter of
hours before the North of France was
liberated by British, US, Canadian
and Polish troops, 871 men, aged 16
to 71, were ushered out of Loos prison
(near Lille), by their German guards.
Nine months later, in May 1945, by the
time of the fall of the Nazi Reich, only
275 had survived. The bronze plaques
in this gallery bear the names of
those deported in the “Loos Train”, to
commemorate and pay tribute to them.

(available in English)
This film retraces the major
events of the space race, from
Sputniks to Apollo missions,
taking in the first flight by
Gagarin and the first outings
in outer space.
TO SPACE AND BACK (3D)
(available in English)
(available in English)
Discover the mystery of flight
with Leonardo da Vinci,
Montgolfier brothers, Wright
brothers and other inventors.
Experience the adventure and
find out how this immense
and challenging dream, for
which mankind has strived
since the beginning of history
came true. Dream to Fly is a
poetic story about the history
of aviation. It presents the
milestones on our route to
conquering the skies – both
in terms of technological
breakthroughs, as well as our
perceptions on flying itself.
Space exploration - our
greatest adventure - is having
a big impact on our lives.
It’s helping us to discover a
universe of unimaginable
scale and beauty, and it’s
reaching down into our world
and influencing the way we
live.
D-DAY NORMANDY
1944 (3D)
(available in English)
June 6, 1944: The largest Allied
operation of World War II
began in Normandy, France.
Yet, few know in detail exactly
why and how, from the end
of 1943 through August 1944,
this region became the most
important location in the
world. Audiences of all ages,
including new generations,
will discover from a new
perspective how this landing
changed the world. Exploring
history, military strategy,
science, technology and
human values, the film will
educate and appeal to all.
For morning sessions only, the first group to
book the session chooses the theme.
