The Office has neither car nor driver; we therefore must refer visitors to other means of transportation: taxi cab or public transport. Official taxi cabs are of a light yellow color with a “Taxi” sign on the roof and a number in the back window. Fares do not include service/tip; there’s a basic fee of EUR 4.00 for every trip. To help a cab driver find the office, please mention “U-Bahn Station Spittelmarkt” or “Fischerinsel”. Public transportation (i.e. BVG) in Berlin can be recommended. Public transport fares for city zone AB (as of January 2011) are: single ticket regular: single ticket short distance (up to three stops): day ticket (valid until 3 a.m. the following day): Arriving at airport Tegel (TXL) Airport Tegel is a medium-sized airport, located in the north western sector of Berlin. Taxi cabs and public busses are outside the main exit/entrance. Between gate 0 and the exit you will find a booth marked Tourist Info/Airport Service Center; if you decide to use public transportation, you may buy your ticket there in advance. Travelling from airport Tegel to the city centre (BerlinMitte) will take -- by taxi approx. 20 - 30 minutes at approx. EUR 20.00 - 25.00 (service not included), -- by public transportation approx. 40 minutes. In order to reach our office by public transport, take express bus X9 or regular bus 109 until final stop Budapester Str./S+U Zoo. Garten (about 15 min.). These busses run every 10 - 20 minutes until midnight. Take the elevator right behind the bus stop down to the eastbound platform of metro line U2, direction Pankow. Get off at station Spittelmarkt (after approx. 15 minutes) and take the exit to the right. Taxi cabs and public busses are outside the main airport exit/entrance. Travelling from airport Schönefeld to the city centre (Berlin-Mitte) will take -- by taxi approx. 25-30 minutes at approx. EUR 28.00 30.00 (service not included), -- by public transportation approx. 35-40 minutes. In order to reach the office by public transport (combined zones ticket ABC required!) take 1. Regional Train RE 7 at the Schönefeld railway station, direction: Dessau, to station Alexanderplatz (approx. 20 min). At Alexanderplatz switch to metro line U2, direction: Ruhleben or Theodor-Heuss-Platz. Get off at station Spittelmarkt (3 stations) and take the exit to the left. or 2. The UNHCR Office is part of a building complex named Spindlershof, directly opposite the exit of metro station Spittelmarkt (line U2). From Hauptbahnhof, take any S-Bahn train eastbound to station Alexanderplatz (three stops), then switch to metro line U2 via an underground passenger tunnel system. Take a U2 westbound train, direction Ruhleben until stop Spittelmarkt (three stops). Inside the entrance lobby, please turn right and use the glass-walled elevator at the staircase (not the one in the entrance lobby) to the second floor. There are security doors installed; please ring the bell and wait for the doors to be opened.
