A big Dragon welcome to all of our new students and staff, and to our returning students and staff! We look forward to another exciting year! This is the third year that we will continue the focus on our Ignite Program, giving students the ability to explore lots of different sports and wellness activities. We would like to welcome the following staff members: Teachers Leann Bruley (LRC), Andrea Doherty (Grade 2), Kristina Falcioni (Grade 4), Educational Assistant Gisele Oakley, Early Childhood Educator Cayleigh Milne-Keeley (yellow room), Bev Parry (LCI), and last but not least, Annex Custodian Tony Hodder. INSIDE THIS ISSUE September message .............. 1 Safe Arrivals ........................... 2 A recent article was written in the newspaper regarding our new school. While the building has been delayed, we are optimistic that we will begin building soon and will hopefully be in the new building during the 2016-2017 school year. We will keep you posted. Food Allergies ........................ 2 Hot Lunch............................... 3 Bus Evacuation ...................... 4 First Time Riders .................... 4 Photo Day……………………...4 School Schedule Due to the current labour situation, elementary teachers are required to follow Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario (ETFO) directives regarding work-to-rule. As a result, there will not be any field trips scheduled at this time. Labour action also impacts school events that occur outside of the instructional day. Therefore, an Open House (meet the teacher) evening has not been scheduled. We will keep you up to date as changes occur. We look forward to a great year! 9:10-11:21 Instructional Block 11:21-11;41 DPA (KPS) T, Th 11:41-12:21 Lunch 12:21-2:45 Instructional Block 2:45-3:25 Recess 3:25-3:30– Prepare for dismissal 3:30 Dismissal 9:10-9:25 DPA (Annex) T, Th, F 9:25-11:41 Instructional Block 11:41-12:21 Lunch 12:21-2:45 Instructional Block 2:45-3:25 Recess 3:25-3:30– Prepare for dismissal www.kpsdragons.com 3:30 Dismissal www.facebook.com/#!/KemptvillePS @KemptvillePS Safe Arrival & Dismissal Procedures The safety of our students is very important to us, and we take it very seriously. When your child is going to be absent or late, please call the office and leave a message, prior to the start of the school day (KPS side—613 258 2206 x108 or Annex side—613 258 2206 x107). If it is a known absence please write a note in your child’s agenda indicating this. If we DO NOT receive a phone call, or a note, we will make every effort to contact you, the parent, or any/all of the emergency contacts on file. Please ensure that you keep the office informed of any changes in contact information. Paperwork was sent home last week regarding phone numbers to be used in case of emergency. Please send back to school ASAP if you have not already done so. If you are picking your child up, please note the pick up time and who will be picking them up in your child’s agenda. If arrangements are made later in the day please call the school be- FOOD ALLERGIES KPS is a Peanut & Nut FREE School fore 2:30 in order for us to inform your child before he/she goes outside for last recess. Please report to the office to sign your child out if the pick up time is before 3:30. If you are picking up at the end of the day (3:30pm), please ensure that you make contact with the teacher on duty, and that the duty teacher signs your child out of the pick up room (Room 7 at the KPS site, and the office at The Annex site). It is extremely important that we all follow these rules in order to keep our students safe. Thank you! PLEASE NOTE: Students should not be dropped off at school until 9:00am. There is NO supervision prior to this time at either location. Parent Council Elections Our Parent Council Elections are fast approaching. A nomination form and letter explaining the process are attached to this newsletter. Elections will be held on Monday, October 5th at 7:00pm at the KPS main site. If you would like to make at difference, why not consider running for council. Council meetings are held once a month at the KPS site. We would love your help! Planning for our new school will be part of our monthly meetings this year. Thank you for your help! We would like to remind you that our school has students and/or staff with peanut and nut allergies. We kindly ask that you do not send products that contain peanuts. There are food suppliers who are marketing peanut-free products that look, taste, and smell like peanut butter. These peanut butter substitute products can cause confusion and create an unsafe environment for our students and staff that are peanut anaphylactic. Therefore, due to the difficulty in differentiating between peanut butter and a peanut butter substitute, we do not allow these products in our school. We thank you for your support in keeping our school environment safe for all. Nominations forms are due back to the school by Wednesday, September 30th, 2015. www.kpsdragons.com www.facebook.com/#!/KemptvillePS @KemptvillePS HOT LUNCH PROGRAM Our hot lunch program will start up again right after Thanksgiving (Oct. 13 for milk, October 16th for pizza, and October 19th for chicken). Order forms for October to December will be sent home next week. Orders are done for three month periods. We offer white or chocolate milk every day, CHICKEN TENDERS on Mondays, and CHEESE pizza on Fridays. All food items are made by Mr. Mozzarella in Kemptville, and, as always, are peanut free. Cheques must be made to Kemptville Public School and we do accept post-dated cheques, postdated to the beginning of each month. The new hot lunch order is attached to this newsletter. Please note that ALL hot lunch orders are due no later than October 2nd so that ordering can be completed. Unfortunately, no late orders can be accepted. Hot lunches ARE NOT provided on snow days. Please send a lunch for your child if they come to school. Order form and money must be sent to school in sealed envelope provided with order form. Thank you! KPS reduces paper waste www.kpsdragons.com In our continued effort to reduce paper usage and waste at KPS, this is the ONLY time this year that the newsletter will be sent home as a paper copy. Please ensure that the main office has an up-to-date email address for you to receive future newsletters. If you do not have access to a computer, please drop us a line in your child’s agenda and we will ensure that you receive a paper copy each month. Newsletters, calendars and various other postings such as community events, sports registration flyers, and public health unit information will be posted on our website and on facebook. Thank you for your support with this environmentally conscious initiative. www.facebook.com/#!/KemptvillePS @KemptvillePS www.kpsdragons.com www.facebook.com/#!/KemptvillePS @KemptvillePS FIRST TIME RIDERS Picture day this year has been divided into two separate days. Each year nomination forms are sent home to parents inviting them to participate on the KPS School Council. The role parents may take can be either as an elected member –chair, co-chair, vice-chair, secretary or treasurer, or as a member of the school council. The Education Act sets out specific requirements regarding the composition of school councils and the election processes. One of the requirements of the regulation is that school council elections must take place within the first 30 school days of each school year. If you are interested in becoming an elected member of the KPS School Council and/or wish to nominate another parent, please complete the attached nomination form and return to the school by Wednesday, September 30th, 2015. The KPS School Council election and first meeting will take place on Monday October 5th, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. in the Learning Commons at KPS. The dates/days of future meetings will be determined at this meeting based upon the input received at the first meeting. We welcome all parents-either previously involved OR completely new, to participate. You are invited to become a member or merely attend meetings to see what takes place at the School Council. We, as staff, look forward to working with the School Council, and all parents to provide excellent learning opportunities for our students at KPS.
