FOCUS: We should live our lives based on our love of God, our neighbors and our self.
The definition of love has carried many different meanings throughout history. We do not need a degree in
psychology to be able to know authentic love. We can look to those we know to find the meaning of true
love. The greatest example of love is Jesus. Sure models of true love are Mary and the saints.
LITURGY OF THE WORD: In our first reading, Moses lays before the Israelites the laws that pertain to
their relationship with those who are less fortunate. Saint Paul acknowledges the work of the missionaries
and the Christian community in spreading God’s word. In today’s gospel, Jesus answers the Pharisees’
question: Which commandment in the law is the greatest?
REFLECTION: As Scripture suggests elsewhere: if you want to love the God you cannot see, love the human you can see. Each of us is a dwelling place of God, "In God’s image we were made." Believing that
should enable us to follow Jesus’ teaching to "love neighbor as self."
So we ask ourselves:
i Despite their manner and outward appearance, what helps us see the image of God in another?
i What customs and values prevent us from seeing that image?

the Lord this past year. As you enter Church
for Mass, you will have the opportunity to
place the name of your deceased loved ones
on a card that will be placed on the altar. Following Mass, you are invited to the auditorium
for a gathering.
St. Cecilia Seniors meet every Thursday in the
school auditorium from 10 AM to 2 PM. This Thursday, Oct. 30th will be our Halloween lunch. New
members are always welcome. For more information, please call Rosemary Shattuck (President)

The Sacrament of Confirmation will be
conferred in St. Cecilia Church on
Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 4:00 PM
by Bishop John McIntyre. Any adult who
has not received this sacrament and would like to do
so, please contact Father Bonner at 215-725-1240.
Every weekday morning at St. Cecilia Church, a
little miracle occurs. A group of parishioners
come together to pray the rosary together at
8:00 AM. We would like to invite you to participate in this beautiful devotion as we pray for
peace throughout the world and an increase
in
priestly and religious vocations. Please join us. All are welcome!
Discernment Retreat—November 14-16
Young women (18-35) are invited to Villa Maria
House of Studies. This retreat focuses on the IHM
Charism and the importance of listening to God’s
call. For information call 610-889-1553.
Pro-Life
Members of the Pro-Life Committee will be at the
entrances of church next weekend to collect the
baby bottles that were taken home the weekend
of Oct. 11-12. Thank you for your generosity to
the mothers and babies in need.
RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)
Bell Choir
Anyone interested in
joining the Bell Choir
may contact Pat Lewis
at 215-338-5709.
Practice for Christmas
Mass will begin Wednesday,
November 19th at 7:00 PM in
Church and will continue for 5
Wednesdays. No experience is
necessary. We invite all ages to
join (16—80+). What a wonderful
way to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
RCIA Sessions are held Tuesday evenings in the Cecilian
Room from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. For info, please contact the
rectory at 215-725-1240.
The second phase in our “growing” relationship in the RCIA
happens after the candidates have decided to become
Catholic. In other words they “like” what they see in us. The
Rite of Acceptance is celebrated [this is not unlike meeting
the parents and the family of the ‘beloved’]. At this ceremony the candidates are introduced to the Parish Community
[our family of faith] and presented to the Pastor of the parish
[the parent], who blesses them and promises continued
prayers and support. This phase called the Catechumenate,
is deeper than the “getting to know you” phase. It is a serious commitment to prayer, study and ‘good works’. Just as
in a relationship this phase may last several months to several years. Candidates are asked to attend the Sunday Liturgy and participate fully in the Church’s liturgical and charitable life.

Collection for Mosul—this weekend
September 22-27, 2015
www.worldmeeting2015.org
Join together with families from around the
world in prayer. Pray the World Meeting of
Families Prayer each day with your family
for the success of the event and for your family’s personal intentions.
God and Father of us all,
in Jesus, your Son and our Savior,
you have made us your sons and daughters
in the family of the Church.
May your grace and love help our families in
every part of the world be united to
one another in fidelity to the Gospel.
May the example of the Holy Family, with
the aid of your Holy Spirit,
guide all families, especially those most
troubled, to be homes of communion and
prayer and to always seek your truth
and live in your love.
Because
of
the
current
situation
in
Iraq
and
Syria, Christians are fleeing the city as their homes are being
burned and they risk being killed. Winter is coming and the
temperatures can get as low as 0.
The collection of blankets, winter coats and warm socks
(especially for children) is taking place this weekend here at St.
Cecilia for these Christians. You may deliver these items to the
back of Church. A local family has volunteered to transport the
items we collect to humanitarian organizations near the ISIS
controlled areas.
We thank you for your support and generosity. Please note that
we cannot accept any items after 2 PM on Sunday, Oct. 26 as
the collection will be on its way.
Jesus reminds us, “Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for
one of these least brothers (or sisters) of mine you did it for
me.”
Elder Outreach Greeting Card Program
This program has been in place since 2005. The
purpose is to reach out to the homebound and
seniors and brighten their day. It only requires
making a commitment to one or more parish
members by sending birthday and holiday cards
that can be bought or hand made.
If you are a registered parish member and are looking to make a
difference in someone else’s life, please send your name, phone
number and email address to the rectory. This also could be a
great service project for those who need service hours.
SUNDAY COLLECTION REPORT
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Aid For Friends
Archbishop’s Lecture Series
We thank all our volunteers who continue to fill the
freezer with meals for our client-friends. The freezer is
located in the alcove between the rectory and church
and is open from 1:30—6:30 PM.
We have noticed that sometimes there is so much food,
placed in the freezer that the vents are blocked. We
kindly ask that our volunteers please do not block the
vents when placing your meals in the freezer. This
causes the freezer to defrost and if the meals are defrosted, we cannot deliver them to those in need. We
also ask that you please be sure the freezer door is
closed tightly.
Thank you for your continued generosity and please
know that our client-friends sincerely appreciate all the
home cooked meals and breakfast bags you prepare.
A FREE lecture featuring Professor Remi Brague will
take place on Thursday, Oct. 30th at 7:00 PM in Vianney Hall at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary. Professor
Brague will speak on themes from his recent book, “On
the God of the Christians,” an examination of Christian,
Jewish and Muslim beliefs, and particularly how God is
understood and encountered across the three great
faiths. Guests are asked to register by contacting Donna
Huddell at dhuddell@archphila.org.
