The Spirit of God moved and worked in the lives of prophets and saints. But the fullness of God’s Spirit rested upon his son, Jesus. The power and presence of the Holy Spirit was evident in the life of Jesus. When we open our lives to Jesus, we receive the same Spirit that strengthened and sustained Jesus during his life and ministry. LITURGY OF THE WORD: Isaiah prophesies that God will send his servant, the one on whom God’s Spirit will rest. In our reading from the Acts of the Apostles, Peter confirms that God’s Spirit was upon Jesus at his baptism. A voice from heaven declared that Jesus was God’s beloved son, in whom he was well pleased. REFLECTION: Jesus enters John’s baptismal waters today and God expresses approval. Jesus is the one God sends, the one the people longed to see. He is not a quick and powerful solution to immediate problems. He is gentle and single-minded and will accomplish his purpose guided by the wisdom of God and the power of God’s love for us. The servant will be rejected, but will continue trust in God’s will. So we ask ourselves: i What difference does our baptism make in our daily lives? i How "visible" is our baptism to those around us? Mass Schedule For January 17th & 18th MASS 5:30PM 6:30AM 8:00AM 9:30AM (Choir) 11:00AM (Guitar) 12:30PM CELEBRANT Father Lucas Father Lucas Father Miller Father Miller Father Bonner Father Bonner LECTOR Anne Corcoran Colleen Demusz Sean Gaffney Patrick Gleason Barbara Hee Lauren Hirst ALTAR SERVERS Dan Kleinkurt, Chris Kleinkurt, Jeremy Higgins No Servers Isabel Isaac, Emily Lubbe, Ed Kiely Joseph Quinto, Thomas Hirst, James McKeown Madeline Gallagher, Michael Gallagher, Brenna Gleason Gabrielle Sztuba, Caeleen Demusz, Kerry Mardt World Meeting of Families Catechesis The Meaning of Human Sexuality The tangible, earthly, corporeal world is more than inert matter or modeling clay for the human will. Creation is sacred. It has sacramental meaning, It reflects God’s glory. That includes our bodies. Our sexuality has the power to procreate, and shares in the dignity of being created in the image of God. We need to live accordingly. Special Collection this Weekend Today, a special second collection will be taken up to aid those within the Church working to combat the Ebola virus. Specifically, the collection would go to Catholic Relief Services. The CRS would like to use the proceeds from this collection to reopen and bring to full capacity a Catholic health facility in Liberia that was closed when many of the staff died of Ebola; and to support the efforts to bury the dangerously infectious bodies of the deceased in a safe manner. Thank you for your prayers and generosity. Do you have questions about the Catholic faith? Saint Cecilia Parish offers year round opportunities for people seeking more information about the Catholic Faith, the Sacraments and living the Christian life. These opportunities are for adults who would like to inquire about following Jesus and becoming a member of the Catholic Church. There are many people like yourself inquiring and we are ready to answer your questions. For more information, please contact the rectory at 215-725-1240. 3 #179 CYO - Martin Luther Day of Service On Monday, January 19, the CYO will be preparing meals for Aid for Friends from 10 AM to Noon in the Gym. We are looking for adult volunteers to help on this ‘Day of Service.’ We also ask everyone to bring a breakfast item, such as, instant oatmeal, cereal, tea bags, coffee bags, etc. so we can prepare breakfast bags too. We look forward to seeing many next Monday at 10 AM in the Gym.
