UPCOMING EVENTS This Week’s Sunday Service October 26, 2014
Newsletter This Week’s Sunday Service UPCOMING EVENTS October 26, 2014 Worship Time - 10:30 a.m. THIS SUNDAY: Oct 22 Scripture: Deuteronomy 34: 1-12 9:00 am Minto Hugs - Stage, Upper C.E. Psalm 90 9:30 am – 11:00 am Kindred Sisters - Lounge 1 Thessalonians 2: 1-8 12:15 pm Armchair Travel - Art Museum 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm Choir Practice - Sanctuary Noon Lunch & Video Study Matthew 22: 34-46 MINUTE FOR MISSION: Oct 23 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm Connecting the Christian Family Oct 24 7:00 pm Youth Group - Youth Booth Oct 29 9:00 am Minto Hugs - Stage, Upper C.E. Kristine Greenaway, United Church overseas personnel, served with Mission and Service partner the World Communion of Reformed Churches in Geneva. Kristine writes the following reflection as she moves from WCRC to the United Church’s General Council Office: Ljenljenman (pronounced Chen-chen-men) is a member of Taiwan’s Paiwan Aboriginal people. She serves as Women’s Secretary for the predominantly Aboriginal presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Taiwan that sits at the southern tip of Taiwan. The women of the presbytery support projects to help single women, theological scholarships, and church growth. In 2013 they celebrated Women’s World Day of Prayer with a service focused on immigrants to France. Funds gathered at the service supported a Taiwanese woman missionary in Ethiopia involved in a Bible translation project in the country. 9:30 am – 11:00 am Kindred Sisters 12:15 pm Armchair Travel - Art Museum 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm Choir Practice - Sanctuary I was struck by the vision of Paiwanese women praying for people who are seeking a new life in a European country they have never seen, and supporting a Taiwanese missionary serving in Ethiopia. Ljenljenman also spoke of a joint project between the Paiwan women of Taiwan and Mizoram (tribal) women from the Presbyterian Church of India. Women from the two countries reached across boundaries and found common ground working together on justice concerns for children, women, and family. For me these stories eloquently describe the importance of connecting the Christian family. As I prepare to return to Canada, my “baggage” will include stories reminding me of how global migration, culture, and faith can form bonds that reach across church and political boundaries. NOON LUNCH & VIDEO STUDY We enjoy a tasty meal together & then we begin our study with: “Living the Questions” Thursdays 12:00 – 2:00 pm, from Oct 2nd to Nov 6th There is no cost for lunch or sessions. The purpose of the program is to improve the nutritional status of these individuals, to provide a regular social contact and check on their safety and well-being. Meals on Wheels enable recipients to remain comfortable and independent in their own home. Volunteers deliver meals to the homes of people unable to shop or cook. Hot, nourishing meals are prepared at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital kitchen. Minto United Church has been assigned the week of Oct 20th - 24th. Anyone who would like to help with this community outreach, please call Linda McLaren at 306-694-1209. Another school year is underway, and Sunday School is a vital part of our Minto church life. For all of us – including our children and youth – need to learn as much as we can of Jesus teachings and His love. Barb, the Sunday School Coordinator, has a whole teaching team in place to take care of Tots to Grade 12 (and a Nursery is available). Children and youth can be registered for classes before and after church services. All are welcome!
