The Apostle’s Creed Prayer Morning Hymn: Count Your Blessings #533 Greetings/Fellowship Video Announcements The Ministry of Music Offertory Period Sermon Dr. Marcus D. Davidson, Senior Pastor Invitation to Christian Discipleship Holy Communion As we embrace a new year and our new theme on Fellowship, scripture gives us some insight into how we show hospitality to others and to whom we show that hospitality. While it’s easy to fellowship with those we know and have similarities with, God’s formula for fellowship calls us to extend our fellowship to the least, the lost and the left out. Benediction Please pick-up a copy of the information leaflet in the lobby to learn more about this new ministry initiative! Happy Birthday to all Members and Friends who will Celebrate a birthday in the month of November! We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, light from light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father [and the Son], who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. Health & Wellness Ministry November is Diabetes Awareness Month America Gets Cooking to Stop Diabetes Whether on tour, meeting her fans or relaxing at home with family, DJ Spinderella, member of the iconic hip-hop group Salt-n-Pepa, is passionate about ending diabetes once and for all. She has personally seen the severe consequences the disease has on not only the person with the disease, but an entire family. Her own mother passed away from complications of type 2 diabetes, and now she watches her brother live with type 2 and young nephew live with type 1 every day. “Though I’ve experienced devastating loss from this disease, people need to know that diabetes doesn’t have to conquer you,” she said. “With a sensible diet and exercise, you can take charge of your diabetes and help prevent its deadly complications. For those at risk for type 2 diabetes, you can even prevent or delay the disease.” To help spread this message, Spinderella is joining the American Diabetes Association this November during American Diabetes Month® by challenging New Mount Olive Community to begin living a healthier lifestyle through the America Gets Cooking to Stop Diabetes campaign, presented by Sun Life Financial. This initiative is designed to engage and empower Americans to cook nutritious and delicious food, and encourage them to be more active. Nearly 30 million children and adults in the United States are living with diabetes. The goal for American Diabetes Month and beyond is to show Americans that it’s not too late to start living a healthy active lifestyle and you can even have fun while doing it.” REMINDERS: Medicare Open Enrollment You can switch Medicare Advantage plans during Fall Open Enrollment (Fall Open Enrollment is sometimes referred to as the Annual Coordinated Election Period – ACEP) which runs from October 15th through December 7, 2014. Finance Ministry Financial Literacy Bible Tip for Managing Your Finances GUARD AGAINST There are many warnings in the Bible about giving in to greed and longing for riches. Jesus warned, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions” (Luke 12:15). “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal… You cannot serve both God and money” (Matthew 6:19 and 24). Did Jesus pursue the acquisition of money? No. On the contrary, He became poor for our sake (2 Corinthians 8:9) and had “no place to lay his head” (Matthew 8:20). The only disciple concerned with wealth was the embezzler Judas, who betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. Greed and a desire for riches are traps that bring ruin and destruction.
