PPC MEETING
The usual PPC meeting took place at 7 PM last Monday in the meeting room. There were three absentees and two
excused. The Annual Financials of 2014 will be published shortly. Afterwards, there was an open PPC meeting. Thirty
parishioners attended. Mr. Kalid from Bethlehem Crafts talked about the Pilgrimage to the Holy Land. It is a 9-10 day
tour for a group of 25. The cost is $3,000. He will address the congregation if and when we decide. After an introduction
of last month’s meeting minutes of the PPC by me, the floor was open for discussion and suggestions. One of the topics
of discussion was the Liturgy for Children and Families. The Religious Education and school teachers need to remind
students to participate in what is open to them, processions, readers, ushers and readers. Adults do cooperate-there have
been positive signs. More cooperation is needed from liturgical musicians: we need children-friendly hymns. A suggestion came that we should open this to the other Masses as well, not just the Children and Family Masses. It was also suggested to keep the Summer Mass Schedule throughout the year. The elimination of one Mass caused a heated debate; a
decision will be made later on by the pastor. The Spanish Mass is a welcome idea. There has been an increase of Latinos
in Sacramental and Religious Education Classes. On December 12, we will celebrate Our Lady of Guadalupe with Vespers and feast with mariachis, etc. We will find a place in Church to place a Statue of Our lady of Guadalupe. I asked for
a critique of current liturgies: there were no comments. All seem to be satisfied with homilies, style, length, etc. Dialogue-type homilies are to commence shortly. There has been a lack of and missing of Altar Servers. Why is this? It is
not so in other churches. The larger the Mass attendance, the more willing children will be to become altar servers. It is
the feeling of many that the MS Pro Scheduler system does not work. It assigns ministers, but they have to find subs
themselves. Maybe that is the underlying cause. Don’t forget the reward at year-end is a trip to Dorney Park. The Rosary
Poster Contest was a success. Participants will receive their prizes in the classrooms. Certificates of Appreciation will go

Marco, 3rd Place-Alexa Geloso; Eighth Grade: 1st Place-Tonianne Bartocci, 2nd Place-Annanna Frontera, 3rd PlaceKatrina Mc Coy. As far as the the Card System, teachers and catechists must make sure students get it in class. There
seems to be confusion in some minds. But for the most part it works. Morality classes by Deacon Singler are going well.
Mass attendance is a must for all students, especially those receiving the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Holy Communion and Confirmation. The Golf Outing Committee suggested we honor Grace and John Killeen. The suggestion is accepted; we will work on the naming of it. Overall it was a very productive meeting.
MAKING ALL THINGS NEW
Last Sunday, Cardinal Dolan announced the decisions on parish mergers and closures that were made based on the
recommendations that had been presented to him. The goal of Making All Things New was simple: to ensure that all parishes of the Archdiocese of New York are active, vibrant communities of faith. Although our parish was not affected directly, we will continue to work together more collaboratively within our cluster in providing services and ministries.
GREENHOUSE DEMOLITION
The plans for bidding are available. Please call or e-mail Scott A. Robinson, who is overseeing this project. His
phone number is 914-476-1058. His e-mail address is robinson-scott@aramark.com. Please contact Scott no later than
Tuesday, November 11th; otherwise, you will not be allowed to bid. Scott will then be in touch with you regarding all
necessary paperwork. A bid walk-through will take place the following week.
ST. EDWARD FOOD PANTRY
The St. Edward Food Pantry located at 6581 Hylan Blvd. is looking for volunteers. The Food Pantry is open for
services on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM. Volunteers will be helping clients with
their food choices from the pantry’s shelves. The Food Pantry serves people from all over Staten Island. If you are interested in putting in a few hours once a month, please call the rectory. OLHC volunteer coordinator, Greg Hauck, will coordinate scheduling, including a one-hour in-service training session. St. Edward Food Pantry is also looking for people
to assist with fundraising, which will help operating costs and purchase food for their clients. If you are interested and
have ideas, please contact the Food Pantry office at 718-984-1625.

DEDICATION OF THE LATERAN BASILICA IN ROME
First Reading: Ezekiel 47:1-2, 8-9, 12
This reading from the Prophet Ezekiel tells of the streaming, healing waters that flow from the temple. These waters restore life to the river’s inhabitants as well as the
fruit bearing trees along its banks. It is believed that the
water signifies blessings, whereas the lack of signifies
trouble, hardship.
Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 3:9c-11, 16-17
Paul compares us to a building whose foundation has
been laid by Jesus. As the people of God, we can only be
solid if we are grounded in Christ.
Gospel: John 2:13-22
Near the time of Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem and
saw the temple had become a marketplace. He became
angry and proceeded to drive out the vendors and livestock. Jesus spoke of destroying the temple and rebuilding
it in three days. The Jews did not know Jesus was speaking of his body, but when his resurrection from the dead
came to pass, his disciples remembered what Jesus had
said and came to believe the Scripture and the word Jesus
had spoken.

R.C.I.A. CLASS FORMING: 18 YEARS AND OLDER
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
(RCIA) is the process by which adults become
members of the Roman Catholic Faith. The formation process is directed at those adults who
have missed a Sacrament along the way or
those from other faiths that have a calling to the Roman
Catholic Faith. The culmination of the formation process
takes place at the Easter Vigil where the Rites of the
Sacraments (Baptism, Communion or Confirmation) are
administered. The Classes are offered weekly beginning
in December and continue through the Easter Season. If

LETTERS TO OUR LOVED ONES
A liturgy of prayer, consolation and comfort
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 15 @ 10:30 AM
Church of Our Lady Of Pity (1616 Richmond Avenue)
People should write letters to loved ones who have died.
Each letter should be placed in a sealed envelope and
brought to the church and placed in a basket. After the liturgy, the basket will be carried outside and placed into a fire.
The flames burn away our sadness and transforms the messages to our loved ones into the smoke which carries these
thoughts and prayers up to heaven.
