IMPHAL, Nov 5: Chief of Dongsum village, Saikul TD Block, Sadar Hills Lhingkhoneng Haokip has disapproved the proclamation of Mangvung Phungpi Council (MPC) which on Nov 3 designated one Khamdou as the chief of Dongsum village. Lhingkhoneng Haokip, in a statement, said the declaration of the MPC to appoint Khamdou as the chief was against the Kuki custom. It was decided in the presence of area chiefs, SHEHO members, TIK, MPC that as per the Kuki custom and tradition, Lunminthang s/o Lhingkhoneng is the legal heir of the village— after the expiry of his father in 2009. It was also decided that his mother Lhingkhoneng would help assist her son in looking after the affairs of the village until the boy attains maturity, the statement said. As such, the declaration or verdict of the MPC on Nov 3 to transfer the village chiefship to Khamdou is unacceptable. The chief's family has not recognised the same. IMPHAL, Nov 5: The 6th North East Riders' Meet 2014 has kicked-off today at Chingnungkok village, Imphal East. Cultural dance and music of Manipur, martial arts and other enchanting cultural items of the State were the main highlights of the opening ceremony. Incheon Asian Games medallist L Sarita Devi, Royal Riders Manipur president RK Tombisana and executive member of National Federation of Women's Commission and adviser of Chana Meira Paibi Lup, Chana Lenbi attended the inaugural function as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively. The three dignitaries hoisted the flags of RRM, NERM and NERF during the inaugural function held at Chingnungkok under Imphal East district. At least 400 Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycle riders from across the NE States and the Condom man of PHSI, CSMP, NACO giving HIV/AIDS awareness among the Royal Riders of the country country participated in the meet. The apprehendees were identified as SS Pvt Mangcha Kipgen (19), s/o (L) Thangsei Kipgen, Bungbal, Churachandpur and Mangpuhao alias Haopu (21) s/o Lunkhular Heopu, Bungbal Khullen, Thoubal. One 9 mm pistol with magazine and 9 live rounds were recovered from their possession. The apprehendees alongwith the recovered items have been handed over to the Yairipok police station, informed PRO of IGAR (S) in a statement. In another operation, troops of 40 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under the aegis of Hqs IGAR (S) launched an operation in Langthabal and apprehended one NSCN (K) cadre on the same day. The apprehendee has been identified as A Veini Johnson (34), s/o A Akha of Karong Kathiko, Senapati. Blank letter with letter head of NSCN (K), two mobile phones, four SIM cards, one driving license, one voter card and cash of Rs 4650 were recovered from his possession. Based on information revealed by the apprehendee, a follow up operation was launched by Singjamei police which recovered one .22 pistol alongwith magazine and four live rounds. The apprehendee alongwith the recovered items have been handed over to Singjamei police station, it added.
