SANGAI DIGEST Imphal, dated Nov 8 Ibobi to meet AICC leaders Stage set for Cabinet rejig today, 15 likely to be inducted New Delhi, Nov 8 The stage is set for the first revamp of the Union Council of Ministers with about 15 likely inductions including Manohar Parrikar and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi of BJP at the level of Cabinet besides a reshuffle of portfolios and elevation of some Ministers of State. BJP allies TDP and Shiv Sena have also named YS Chowdhary and Anil Desai, respectively, for induction in the Council of Ministers. Both the Rajya Sabha members are expected to be made Ministers of State. The swearing-in of the new ministers will take place at 1 PM tomorrow at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Before the swearing-in ceremony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is hosting a breakfast for the newcomers into his ministry. This will be the first reconstitution of the Ministry by Modi since coming to power in May. The current strength of the Council of Ministers is 45 -- 23 of Cabinet rank, including the Prime Minister, and 22 Ministers of Chief Minister O Ibobi would leave for New Delhi tomorrow afternoon to meet AICC leaders. Speaking to reporters, he said that MSRRDA recently issued tenders for construction of roads and bridges in rural and hills areas. With the completion of the 9th phase, MSRRDA issued a notification for the 10th phase with November 18 as the last date, he said. During the submission of tenders, work agencies and contractors have applied to execute these works by cutting down 27 to 30 percent from the total permitted amount, he alleged. Out of the Rs 2.67 crore, Rs 1.72 crore should be utilized in paying monthly salaries to 291 employees appointed for the particular scheme, informed a well placed source. The remaining amount of Rs 95 lakh should be used for field demonstration and farmers training programmes at district and block levels during the kharif season. Even though the kharif season is now over, all these programmes could not be held because the requisite amount was not released in time. IMPHAL, Nov 8: Imphal West Additional SP K Meghachandra has said that anybody who dumps garbage on the road sides of North AOC will be penalised. Speaking by the sidelines of a cleanliness drive, which kickstarted yesterday, K Meghachandra said that the cleanliness drive was conducted in association with Imphal Municipal Corporation on the roads of North AOC area, Kekrupat, Kangla gate and Minuthong etc. Saying that shop owners must not encroach upon ad- joining roads, the Additional SP said that dumping of garbage on road sides at these areas is prohibited to maintain cleanliness ahead of the Manipur Sangai Festival. Saying that the prohibition would continue after the festival as well, K Meghachandra said that IMC would penalise all those who violate this prohibition with a fine of Rs 500. Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club this afternoon, the association’s president Md Alimuddin said that a police team barged into Masjid-E-Mohammadia, Sora Ching Wangma in the name of driving off bandh supporters yesterday afternoon. Enriching and developing the various languages and dialects of the State would gradually help in strengthening and enriching the official language of the State. The Dy CM was speaking as chief guest at the first Tribal Languages Day cum workshop on literary progress of tribal languages organised by the Council of Tribal Languages and Literature Societies, Manipur at TRI today. Gaikhangam also expressed confidence that the opening of a separate directorate for Language Planning and Implementation under the Education Dept would surely be a good beginning for nurturing and promoting dialects and languages of different ethnic communities of the State. He also asserted that the State Govt has been making sustained efforts to develop, preserve and promote all languages and dialects of the State without any discrimination or distinction. Giving the keynote address, Ragongning Gangmei, chairman, CTLLS said that language is the most important element for asserting and preserving one’s identity. Interactions on issues and challenges confronting the growth and development of tribal languages of the State was held besides discussion on the process of approval of tribal languages for introduction in the State’s education system. Representatives of most of the tribal literature societies gave brief literary progress reports of their respective communities during the programme. Mukti Mouluvi Abdul Haque (Contd on P 8) Makeshift shops dismantled By Our Staff Reporter IMPHAL, Nov 8: After the godowns constructed inside the temporary market shed of Khwairamband Keithel were dismantled on November 2 by the Imphal Municipal Council in accordance to an order issued by the Imphal West DC, makeshift shops built by using polythene roofs as extensions from the temporary market shed were removed by City Police this evening. As a police team arrived at the market complex to dismantle the makeshift structures/shops, they were resisted by some women vendors resulting in a brief altercation. Later the two sides came to an understanding and the makeshift shops were dismantled voluntarily by the vendors/ shopkeepers. Nonetheless, another police team led by Imphal West Additional SP Birbabu kept a close vigil so as to avoid any untoward incident. Aggrieved by the demolition drive, some women vendors demanded resignation of the IMC Chairperson and all Councillors.
