We Welcome You!
A Note from Jeremy Young, Director of Youth Ministries We Welcome You! “It takes wisdom to build a house, and understanding to set it on a firm foundation. Through knowledge its rooms are filled with all sorts of precious riches and valuables.” - Proverbs 24:3-4 Building a house from scratch is a monumental undertaking. It takes a plot of land, several bags of money, a few hundred 2x4s, some of that fluffy pink stuff you put in the walls to keep it warm on those wintery Florida nights, and a crew of experts who know what they’re doing because obviously I don’t. The point being that it takes intentionality to build a structure that won’t have its walls blown down when the first storm comes along. You should be able to put furniture upstairs without second guessing the stability of the floor. But after all of the carpentry and painting trucks have moved from the premises, the hard work is still yet to be done. We would like to welcome all of our guests to Community Presbyterian Church. We hope that the Spirit and love of the Lord fill you today as you worship with us. We would love to connect with you one-on-one, to learn more about you, and to allow you to learn more about our church and congregation. If you are a first time guest please join us after the service at the Welcome Cart so that we may get to know you better and offer you a welcome gift. The recliner in the living room may have been found on the side of the highway but it still holds that spirited mystique that all chairs upholstered in yak skin should have. This space is reserved for relaxation, for Sabbath. A command that I often ignore without any sense of conviction. How is it that I’m more laborious than the average 1st century farmer, whose duty to feed his family was dependent on his harvest? He still found time. And the kitchen is filled with thousands of instruments that, utilized correctly and in sequence, can prepare a full course dinner for family and friends. Comparatively speaking, God equips us with the capacity to create a life that far exceeds the ordinary. Shamefully, my microwave is overworked in its preparation of my delectable hot pockets. I fear that I’m drastically undershooting my potential. Community Thanksgiving Worship Service Our Community Thanksgiving Worship Service will be at our church this year. YOUTH MINISTRY Jeremy Young - Director of Youth Ministry jeremy.young@commpres.com 407-566-1633 X227 THIS WEEK AT THE EDGE (SrHi), INFIINITY (MidHi), Fusion (Combined) Ministry Highlights 11/23 Read the Bible through the Year The bedroom is a place of privacy and solitude. Just about the only place left without crushing ambient noise. A ticking clock, curtains for blackout, and a Bible on the nightstand remind me that inside this place, God still watches over me, speaks to me, and reaches through the damaging thoughts that sometimes overwhelm. And the blueprints of this house can be found buried deep in the Old Testament, when Joshua proclaimed without hesitation that “for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” This house, for me, is a home by design. Read the Bible through the Year The present day front door holds an ominous, almost inhospitable feel in comparison to Biblical times, where the orphan, widow, and stranger were expected to be cared for. To turn them away would be disgracing your own social standing in the society. The word “hospitality” in scripture is translated much deeper into “brotherly love for a stranger”. So it begs the question we must all ask about our homes, “how welcoming is our front door?” To cross that threshold transforms a stranger into a brother, a friend into a disciple. Since Jesus was homeless, I’ll translate his invitation to “follow him”, as our equivalent to inviting guests across our threshold. If you are a first time guest or a returning guest, we invite you to fill out a welcome card and place it in the offering plate as it passes by. This will allow our pastoral staff to pray for you by name this week. If you have any specific prayer concerns, please place them on this card. We look forward to connecting with you more during your time in Celebration. Please fill out the Friendship Pads found at the center aisle especially our guests! If you are a member and have changed any of your information, please update your information on the Friendship Pad. Once you have passed the pad to the end of your row, please pass the pad back the center aisle. Our Stewardship theme this year is inspired by Malachi 3:10…”Test me…and see if I will not open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it”. Community Presbyterian Church experiences those blessings in many forms every day…and we are grateful! We have received 100 pledge cards totaling $568k, which is 53% of our 2015 budget of $1,075K. That’s a great start, but we have a ways to go. Please help us close that gap by submitting your Estimate of Giving card, if you haven’t already done so, thru mail, email, online pledging or putting in the offering plate. It’s not too late! It takes all of us coming together to make God’s plans and ministries come alive…thank you for faithful support!
