NOW HIRING November 2014 JOB SEARCHING DURING THE HOLIDAYS While it is true that many people, including employers and job seekers, are extremely busy this time of year, this does not mean you should give up on your job search. The holiday season can actually be a perfect time to re-invigorate your employment efforts. Below are a few ideas and suggestions on how to maintain an effective job search strategy during the stress of the holiday season. Even though it may appear that “no one is in the office between Thanksgiving and New Year’s”, this does not mean that work is not getting done. In fact, many companies are already looking ahead to next year’s staffing needs or are looking to spend end-of-year budget money by hiring additional people. This means that the hiring process needs to begin now if an employer is looking to have new employees in place for the New Year. Take advantage of the situation! Because many job seekers suspend their search during this time, the applicant pool is often smaller, and that means less competition for you. Plus, by maintaining an active job search during this busy time, you are showing interest, dedication, and motivation – qualities that employers certainly value in their employees. Ways to maintain a job search during the holidays: Use holiday parties as networking events. - Be careful not to come on too strong (remember this is a social event, not a business meeting), but do bring a supply of business cards and be prepared to discuss your skills and qualifications. Keep in mind the whole point of networking is to make a positive connection with someone else. Topics to consider asking while at an event: Where do you work? What type of work do you do? How did you get your job? What do you like best about it? - Even though this is a social gathering, remember to still act in a professional manner. Go easy on the eggnog and avoid the mistletoe! - If you do make a new networking contact, don’t forget to f ollow up! However, be patient while waiting for a response as we all know this can be a hectic time for all. Take this time as an opportunity to re-connect with colleagues/former co-workers and others such as recent interviewers and other networking and business contacts. Consider sending them a greeting card. You don’t need to ask for a job, simply say hello and wish them well. Look for ways you can be of assistance to your connections and offer them your help. You never know when someone may be able to return the favor through a referral, a job lead or even a job offer! Consider volunteering. Not only does this get you out of the house, but it also helps shift your focus toward helping others. It can also be another opportunity to meet new people and gain valuable experience. Be flexible with your schedule. You may have to change plans to accommodate a last m inute interview or job offer. Consider seasonal/temporary work. Many companies are looking for additional help during the holidays whether it is due to increased business activity or to help cover for those who may be out of the office. Temporary work can help you earn extra income, gain experience to put on your resume, meet new people, and potentially increase your network. In addition, always remember temporary jobs may have the potential to become permanent! Schedule time for activities that include both job searching AND fun! Take care of yourself. Engage in healthy activities. Be patient, cultivate a positive attitude. And above all else - ENJOY this special time of year!! Best wishes to all of you in the upcoming year! ~ Dakota County Workforce Services Staff NOW HIRING November 2014 NOW HIRING – STAFFING/EMPLOYMENT AGENCY OPENINGS Accountemps (Various Locations) Billing Clerk (Eagan) Full Charge Bookkeeper (St. Paul) Medicare Biller (Minneapolis) Inventory Clerk (Shakopee) http://www.accountemps.com/Home Senior Accountant (Minneapolis) Accounts Payable Clerk (St. Paul) Entry Level Accountant (Bloomington) Accounting Analyst – Healthcare (Woodbury) Thingamajob (Various Locations) Mechanical Design Engineer (Apple Valley) DME Customer Service Rep (Apple Valley) Diesel Technician (Burnsville, South St. Paul) Technical Customer Service Rep (Eagan) Customer Service Support (Eagan) Sr. Pen Tester (Eagan) Service Desk Analyst (Eagan) Desktop Support (Eagan) Desktop Support Technician (Eagan) Entry Level IT Support – Helpdesk (Eagan) Senior Support Technician (Eagan) http://www.thingamajob.com/L-Us-Minnesota-0.aspx Software Engineer (Eagan) Entry Level Software Engineer C++ (Eagan) Customer Service Rep (Inver Grove Heights) Welder (Inver Grove Heights) Truck Body Technician (Inver Grove Heights) Welders (New Prague) Trailer Mechanic (Rosemount) Production MIG Welder (Rosemount) Production Operator (Shakopee) Construction/Laborer (Savage) Fabricator/Assembler (South St. Paul) Doherty Staffing (Various Locations) Inside Sales (Bloomington, Eagan) Fab Operator (Bloomington) SMT Machine Operator (Burnsville) Machine Operator (West St. Paul) Spot Welder (Woodbury) http://www.dohertystaffing.com/ Mail Sorters & Processors (Mendota Heights) Meat Packaging/Production (Mendota Heights) Proofing (Eagan) Quality Control Technician (Woodbury) Retail Fulfillment Center (Woodbury) Express Employment Professionals (Various Locations) Warehouse Assistant (Eagan) Warehouse Worker/Forklift Operator (Eagan) Office Services (Jordan) Class C Driver (Eagan) Machine Operator (Shakopee) http://jobs.expresspros.com/search Electronic Technician (Eagan) Shipping and Receiving (Eagan) Customer Service Representative (Burnsville) Production (Lakeville) Client Manager – Commercial Lines (Burnsville) Jeane Thorne Inc.
