He’s also got a team on kitchen fitting and two teams doing flooring - domestic mostly but small commercial if it comes up. The guy apparently will fit TV arials, do a bit of gardening and even lay drives if he thinks he can earn a bob or two. Although when I say he, I clearly mean the people he employs...and that’s anyone prepared to do a days graft. The installer guy doesn’t do any installing and he barely knocks on doors – he’s got staff to do that as well. He’s more the kinda chap that knows people – people who want to sub some work out or who’ve got a contract. He operates where and when he can...some say he’s a bit shifty. Others say he is a fabulous businessman. What do you say? I still can’t believe how many installers will only turn their hand to what they know – windows, door etc and won’t even consider going back to some of their old customers and offering them something new – or perhaps an overdue repair. This month we have a fitting guide to multipoint locks – it’s a relatively simple process and something most window and door fitters should know how to do anyway. Take a look – we are at a point where thousands of these things will need replacing. Then of course there’s locks. You don’t have to set out to become a locksmithing business...but there should be plenty of remedial and upgrade work out there. And neither of these two suggestions are straying too far away from your core business. Think what you might be able to do if you looked around at the skill you have in your company; took a look at an economy on the rise; and thought to yourself ‘it’s now or never’ – grasp the range of opportunities which might help you expand your current window business as well as give you the taste of something else. Next month we will highlight the opportunities in a range of sectors...we hope we can make you think. Skills shortage The UK economy is losing out on £18 billion due to skills shortages, with hundreds of thousands of vacancies across the UK’s small businesses Almost a quarter of small businesses surveyed currently have available vacancies; however 16% had vacancies in the last month that they’ve been unable to fill due to not finding a candidate with the required skills Small business decision makers spend over 100 hours a year looking for potential candidates, training new staff and developing existing staff. In economic output, this is worth an estimated £3,160. This figures rises to £7,450 for 18-34 year old small business decision makers who dedicate more time to those activities than the older generations. Just a thought – if you want to expand, start the process soon...coz tomorrow might already be too late. Media 10 recently acquired the Build Show (sister show to the FIT Show for the window industry) and owns the highly successful Grand Designs Live series. A further seven dedicated events will form UK Construction Week - creating a construction focused event of a size that harks back to the boom time of the 80s. The shows included are: The Build Show, Surface & Materials, Kitchens & Bathrooms, Plant & Machinery, HVAC, Civil Engineering, Energy, Smart Building Show, Grand Designs Live. Last time around, Grand Designs Live attracted 24,000 trade attendees alone. Meanwhile, The Build Show was attracting support from exhibitors, associations and trade media. The other shows will all be independent features hung around the core of Grand Designs and The Build Show. The organisers are predicting a 50,000 turnout. Media 10’s CEO Lee Newton said: “Media 10 is able to create the strongest trade event the building and construction industry has seen. We already attract more architects, designers and specifiers to our events than any other organiser through 100% Design, Clerkenwell Design Week and Grand Designs Live. We believe we are the only company that is capable of delivering such a large and ambitious project.” The week Designed to promote construction at a time of renewed growth and optimism in the industry, UK Construction Week will be supported by the UK government and industry associations, as well as trade and consumer media, with the aim of increasing productivity and profit in this vital sector that employs 2.2 million people in the UK. Paul Godwin, who with colleague Matthew Glover launched the Build Show late last year said: “The response received to our show from the industry has been tremendous given the resurgence of the building and construction industry. With the resources and existing events within the Media 10 stable, we will deliver an event worthy of Britain’s most important sector.” i If an installer does not issue (or pay for) an IBG policy for each job notified, that company will be expelled from FENSA reports that the majority of its registered businesses have embraced mandatory Insurance Backed Guarantees (IBGs). The system set up by FENSA and its Approved Insurance Providers allows automatic notification of installations from FENSA to the insurance company, automatic issuing of the IBG policies direct from the insurance company to the homeowner and billing direct from the insurance company to the installer. This system is working well says FENSA. However, there is a stubborn minority of installers that have yet to provide FENSA with details of their chosen IBG provider and therefore currently cannot self-certify. The consequences for these installers are stark. If an installer does not issue (or pay for) an IBG policy for each job notified, that company will be expelled from FENSA. Such installers will also not be able to register with another glazing Competent Persons Scheme, as they are in breach of FENSA rules. “There is no hiding place for installers ducking out of IBGs,” says FENSA managing director Chris Mayne. “Because the system is computerised, we can immediately see which installers do not have an IBG supplier in place. They will be expelled from FENSA.” FENSA rules state: ‘To provide each customer (other than a Local Authority or Housing Association) with an Insurance Backed Guarantee policy (conforming to requirements laid down from time to time by FENSA) to provide cover to the customer should the Registered Business, for whatever reason, cease to trade’. Mayne adds: “We have a duty to those FENSA registered businesses that are playing by the rules. We cannot allow those installers that break or ignore the scheme rules to carry on as usual. We will initiate the process to expel these installers.” i The Installer | News | 7 Pg 07, 08, 10, 11 News November 2014:Pg 05, 06, 08 & 09 News April 2008.qxd 10/11/2014 09:32 Page 2 News Steve Brown has been promoted to the role of Products and Customer Service Director at Synseal BREEAM ‘EXCELLENT’ RATING ACHIEVEMENT FOR OUTSTANDING LEEDS LANDMARK 10 Wellington Place is a new contemporary building located at the heart of the Leeds business hub. The building provides a stunning vista across the city whilst providing accommodation for companies and organisations seeking a prestigious and distinctive landmark address. High performance glass supplied by Saint-Gobain gives the building its striking form through the impressive floor to ceiling glazing that provides occupiers and visitors with a platform through which to overlook the city skyline and is key to promoting the project as a landmark building. The building features an innovative exterior design and the glass facade helps create light and airy interior spaces in which people can work, shop and relax comfortably. Saint-Gobain helped to create the glass façade design and its modern exterior to create a contrast against the existing stone architecture in the area. Saint-Gobain Glass products were chosen as the architect required a very specific amount of solar gain and light reflection in the glass façade. Aesthetically, the high performance glazing complimented the building with its neutral appearance. 10 Wellington Place achieved a BREEAM Excellent rating with Saint-Gobain Glass contributing towards this in two areas: the company’s high performance glass coatings that reduced solar gain up to 88% and therefore reduced the building’s dependence upon air conditioning; and the Life Cycle Assessment which traces the product’s life cycle from raw materials to the recycling of used glass. i Ever since joining Synseal from local systems company neighbours Eurocell in 2011, Steve Brown has headed up Synseal’s product development, technical, quality, order processing and customer service teams in the busy role of Head of Customer Care and Product Strategy. As Synseal operations have evolved and grown, Brown has overseen substantial reorganisation of the diverse teams under his control to meet the changing needs of the business. Brown has also led the charge in driving through new product development and his creative thinking led to the recent introduction of WarmCore, Synseal’s new ‘warm aluminium’ folding sliding door range. With 25 years of experience working in the UK window industry, Brown is a well known figure and he has played an active part on the Synseal Operations Board for several years, prior to moving up to his new position with full Directorship status. David Leng, Synseal’s Chief Executive, comments: “This appointment reflects Steve’s growing strategic contribution to our business and all the Directors join me in congratulating Steve on this important and deserved step in his career at Synseal.” i MEMBERSHIP DOUBLES – AND AGAIN Network VEKAs UKAS accredited Assure Competent Persons Scheme has doubled in size over the last year. The scheme has grown rapidly as it continues to receive a constant stream of applications from installers looking to join their first competent persons scheme or installers who have become dissatisfied with their current operator. Feedback shows that members find Assure a straightforward and cost effective route to compliance, with Building Regulation notification and the fact that 8 | News | The Installer installers and surveyors can quickly take their MTC assessments. Austin Greene (Technical and Compliance Manager for Network VEKA's Assure) explains: “Many new members have told us they had become unsatisfied with their existing competent persons scheme providers. We strive to make the whole process simple and straightforward which our installers really appreciate. We offer all the training, seminars and advice you would expect to make sure everything runs smoothly for our installers. Members seem to appreciate the regular CPD bulletins keeping them updated about Regulations and other issues affecting their work. “At the rate we're growing, Above: Austin Greene – Assure Technical and I wouldn't be at Compliance Manager all surprised if Assure membership doubled again over the next 12 months.” i Real Bosch! “Always power ready” World’s first! We met with a mix of architects, consultants, clients and developers, many of whom showed a real interest in our composite products such as the Rehau Geneo window and our Rehau Polytec 50S composite curtain walling system. “The Passive House market is still fairly niche but the conference showed just how quickly it could grow. A fair number of us are changing the way we research and buy a company’s products or its services. The influence of social media and 24-hour online availability means that there is now always an opportunity to be reviewed, rated, ranked and tweeted for both businesses and individuals alike. The internet is proving to be a great source of opportunities for all business types including Certass. Many lead generation services in the construction industry are turning to consumer feedback ratings as part of their provided services. As we all know, consumer feedback can be a double edged sword. Negative feedback can cause as much, if not more, damage to business reputations than positive feedback can to its success. Sometimes fake or nonreputable reviews can discredit and permanently damage a business. Looking through the eyes of 12 | Certass Column | The Installer the consumer, the more information that can be found out about a business online and the more positive reviews that can be read by others who have had a good experience with the company, the more credible that business is. TrustMark has identified that the vital feature of providing a consumer feedback facility was missing from its online TrustMark consumer search, which has now been rectified. The key difference with TrustMark’s consumer feedback facility is that the text entered by the consumer is fully moderated by TrustMark ensuring that your business’s reputation is not damaged by false or incorrect feedback. It is this level of vigilance that is the vital ingredient ensuring your business will receive a fair representation. TrustMark will remove feedback left by a consumer where bad language is used, where an ongoing complaint is known and for spam etc. The new Trustmark feedback facility prevents elongated threads of contentious conversation and the contractor has the right to reply to all feedback left by a consumer. TrustMark’s new consumer feedback facility can record the results either online via TrustMark’s website or by the consumer completing a feedback card which you, the contractor can obtain from TrustMark free of charge in packs of 50. You can give this card to all of your customers upon job completion. Your customers will need to answer all 5 star rating questions to record their feedback as well as leaving feedback in an open box stating the ‘type’ of work carried out along with their experience. All Certass glazing contractors meeting TrustMark’s membership requirements get a free listing on the TrustMark website. This new feedback service is now live and relies on the contractor having provided Certass with the correct email address to receive this information from TrustMark. Additionally, the following trades can be optionally added – Conservatories, Insulation (Cavity/Internal/ External Wall), Loft Insulation Installers, Builders, Carpenter & Joiners, Damp, Timber & Underground Water-proofers, Leadwork Specialists, Painters & Decorators, Plasterers & Renderers, Plumbers, Roofers, and Floor Covering Installers. With pundits on both sides pushing their views, it’s hard to see what will actually transpire. One thing is for sure – for the majority of UK families, the sheer expense related to moving is not something easily covered by hidden stashes of cash. This means installers still have a big opportunity to persuade homeowners to improve rather than move. News from D&G Consultingsuggests that the Orangery is becoming increasingly popular amongst homeowners, no doubt due to the fact they offer the appearance of a traditional extension, whilst offering the light, airy feel of a conservatory. What was once seen as a luxury product, is now much more commonplace and as a result the range of solutions on the market has grown to meet needs. The magnificent seven Synseal’s range of orangeries are designed to evoke traditional building extension styles yet utilise the very latest materials and construction techniques. Our orangeries deliver precise detailing whilst ensuring speed and ease of installation. The Integra is a substantial brick-built orangery with a parapet wall and lantern roof. Classic and sturdy in design using high strength structural aluminium in the place of timber, the system features an insulated ‘warm roof’ construction and integrated guttering. Alternatively, the Integra 210 offers a compact version of this classic orangery design. The Venetian. Structural aluminium posts deliver wide spanning solutions and provide freedom of design in terms of additional specifications, such as fully framed walls, brick work or Mark Schlotel, of Synseal, looks at the trends of people moving or improving and explains why improving is still a popular option large bi-folding doors affording it a modern, hi-tech appearance. Offering all of the benefits of a structural orangery, with a modern twist, The Modena features distinctive double soffits inside and out and is particularly suited to urban buildings, such as town houses. Providing a cost effective solution for a true orangery, Rio is an elegant flat roof adaptation which delivers a different appearance from other orangery designs, with the eye-catching lantern roof sitting on top for maximum visual impact. Global Summer is a design enhancement of Synseal’s Global conservatory roof to provide a hybrid orangery solution, delivering the distinguished look of a traditional orangery with design features precisely engineered to provide an effective internal soffit and high quality aesthetics. Capella is a modular system that offers a series of upgrades for a standard K2 conservatory roof to achieve the appearance of a customised orangery, whilst avoiding the extra building work or additional cost associated with fully structural orangeries. The finishing touch Understanding that the devil is in the detail, each of the ranges can be customised with a choice of colour finish, decorative feature and glazing options to suit individual requirements. Over the coming months and years, growing numbers of multipoint locks are expected to fail, presenting a significant opportunity for replacement sales. The Yale Doormaster range provides a genuine ‘one visit, one repair’ solution thanks to its clever design. The three models within the range, Universal, Adjustable and Professional, enable installers to replace virtually all PVC-U, composite and timber door multipoint locks with 35mm and 45mm backsets. Our illustrations show the Yale Doormaster Professional being installed. Designed with the professional installer in mind, this lock includes flexible ‘crop and mate’ technology, which maximises the scope of installation. For comprehensive installation details please refer to the fitting instructions or visit www.yale.co.uk/doormaster. The instructions will tell you: 1) Identify what tools are required and check that all parts of the Yale Doormaster Professional are present and correct. 2) Remove all parts of the original lock – handle, cylinder, locking mechanism and keep. 3) Lay the original lock alongside the Doormaster Professional to compare and check suitability. 4) Measure and cut to fit the The Installer| Hardware|19 Pg 19, 20, 22 The Installer Features Hardware November 2014 Yale Doormaster:Layout 1 10/11/2014 11:44 Page 2 Hardware existing door. The flexible ‘crop and mate’ design enables you to simply cut the lock to length and position gearboxes to match the locks being replaced. 5) When fitting the new lock start by positioning the central gearbox into the centre aperture, then replace the euro cylinder and handles. 6) Mark and fit the center keep of the 3-piece keep 20 | Hardware|The Installer and Uni-Packer system. For PVC-U doors, the preassembled patented Uni-Packer allows for fast, easy and reliable installation. 7) Place the top hook gearbox into position in the top aperture, check the top hook operates correctly, then mark and place the top keep into position. 8) Repeat for the bottom hook gearbox unit and bottom keep and set level of compression required. T he rate of energy efficiency – whether for windows, lighting or home appliances for example – can easily be measured and analysed, using the A to G colour rating system that we are familiar with in our everyday lives. It enables us to qualify what the performance levels are, which aids our decision making processes. Nigel Wood, of SFS intec, argues that an issue as important as security should be measured in the same simple way to allow the fenestration industry and UK public to make educated decisions on the products installed. A secure education Ensuring that homes are secured with a tamper-proof lock is one element which will reduce burglaries but the same emphasis must be placed on the hinge to ensure complete security – something that many homeowners, notleast installers and fabricators, are unaware of. A door has two sides and therefore two potential access points, so if you upgrade the lock you only secure 50% of the door. The lock and hinge must be considered holistically, as a bad quality hinge can easily be destroyed – allowing perpetrators to prise a door or window open with relative ease. Investing in state-of-the-art lock systems can therefore be futile if an inadequate hinge has been installed. For example, traditional flag hinges are frequently used as a lower cost, make-do option but aside from their cumbersome design, they are easier to dismantle because of a lack of support at the top and tend to drop, leaving doors vulnerable to tampering. If the product came 22 | Hardware|The Installer with a colour coded security accreditation, homeowners would be able to filter out these types of poorly performing products and make an informed decision. A-grade products Why would an end user choose any less than the best? The product marked with a grade ‘A’ will inevitably get the most interest, leaving products marked grade ‘G’ to fall to the wayside. And rightly so. If products such as hinges, locks and handles for example were categorised in this way, only the highest performing and safest would be specified and thus installed. Not only would this instil confidence and a heightened sense of security for the homeowner, but it would be hoped that crime rates may fall too. Security regulated Currently, the industry uses legislative guidelines to help specify the most suitable products. It separates the ‘compliant’ with the ‘non-compliant’ but is this really enough to truly understand the performance of a product? While the industry is now clearer on the legislation it must adhere to, unfortunately, it is still the case that PAS 24 is only used on request for those who know about it. Therefore, I’m suggesting there is a clear accreditation scheme to enable homeowners to choose the product that will offer them the performance they require. i P C Henderson, an international manufacturer of door hardware systems, has introduced a new Twinbolt system. This now enables the door to be locked internally at the top and bottom of the door by turning one handle 90 degrees, removing the need to manually engage two flush bolts. Hendersons identified the demand in the residential architectural market for the Twinbolt, offering two points of discreet security with throw rods top and bottom. Andrew Royle, UK Commercial Director comments: “The new Twinbolt locking system offers an alternative to customers who do not want to have to manually engage two flush bolts when locking the swing door. Without compromising on security, the throw rods are engaged simultaneously by turning the satin finish handle 90 degrees which then locks the door into position. "For added security and convenience Twinbolt incorporates the Yale Securiturn removable thumbturn. This provides the flexibility of a keyed cylinder lock when required whilst allowing the use of a thumbturn for everyday convenience which can easily be removed when required by using the specialist tool provided within the kit.” i pchenderson.com SINGLE Page layout33207:Layout 1 10/11/2014 14:43 Page 1 Pg 24 Filler00:Pg 40.qxd 11/11/2014 12:30 Page 1 Doors – Online Ordering Online Advantage Following the launch of its online design and ordering system last month, IG Doors has extended its offers to installers wanting to buy Truedor. Richard Kirman sales and marketing manager for the company’s trade division explains that Truedor has clearly caught the imagination of the installer sector with the new online ordering facility supporting the product range and marketing support package I have said for some time that ordering online was a must for composite door suppliers in today’s modern market. It is the way the industry operates and was very much on the wish list of all the people we had spoken to since we launched Truedor. The response to our launch has been fantastic – even better than we expected. It gives our customers the flexibility to operate their businesses at times which suit them so they are not dependent on our sales office to place their orders...they can do that at any time. Products and marketing support We knew that making the online ordering system live was going to be a great boost for our customers, and for ourselves. When we set out to launch Truedor we were very clear on a number of things – we would have an outstanding product range, great marketing support and we would make customer service the kingpin of our offering. Having the online ordering system is very much a part of the customer service offering. We know from the feedback we have received so far that we have got our product range and our service levels exactly as our customers want them. The dialogue we have had with them from the start about what they expect from us will continue to ensure that we maintain the highest standards. This will enable us to continue to talk to them about what else they would like from us in the future. This dialogue with our customers is essential for success in the long term as we want to develop a loyal customer base which is with us for years to come. We fully recognise that loyalty is a two-way thing. Sharing the benefits A part of this loyalty will come through sharing the benefits generated by our online ordering system. We believe that online ordering is a win-win for us and our customers and we recognise that we should share the benefits of this. The fact is if our customers order online and pay online then that saves us time and we should share those savings with them rather than keeping them for ourselves. That’s why we are offering all of our customers a £10 discount when they order online and a further £10 discount when they pay online. It is a part of our customer ethos – it has to be a partnership to succeed in the long term and hopefully offering these discounts shows that we are serious when we say this. It is a tangible sign of us giving something back to our customers where we both benefit. £50 off your first online order There is also a first order discount of £50 available. We would urge all installers to take advantage of it. It will give them the opportunity to see just how simple the ordering system is to use, how versatile the product range is and just how well the customer service and delivery system we have implemented works to support them once their orders have been placed. i truedor.co.uk t. 01633 627190 24|Online Ordering|The Installer Pg 25, 26, 29 Products November 2014:Pg 40.qxd 10/11/2014 14:23 Page 1 Products & Projects Doorbuilder Goes Direct Apeer’s design and order software system for retailers now features a direct-to-factory order link. Doorbuilder Direct, as the updated system is called, has been successfully trialled with customers and is now available for download. Said Apeer marketing manager Linda Tomb: “We’ve seen a phenomenal take-up rate for the updated system – within just a few days of launching Doorbuilder Direct, 43% of our order intake was going direct to the factory. Our IT department is contacting customers to talk them through what to do – and in some cases, even doing it for them remotely.” As well as the new direct-to-factory order link, the updated programme also features: All size updates; Bar pull handles for Apeer 44 and Apeer 70 restrictions are now in place; It displays available thresholds when sizes are entered; There is an alert message facility for top/arch with coupling; And an order cloning facility has also been added along with other general fixes and improvements. i Pictured: The Apeer team at October's Grand Designs Live t. 028 2563 2200 Bowater Doors has splashed out on a vast, new colour offering - the company's range is now available in hundreds of colours. Ops Manager, Anita van Vuuren explains: “We can now offer doors in any RAL colour and they can even be matched to a colour of the customer's choice. This allows homeowners to choose a shade to reflect their personality and create a unique look for their home. It also means that architects and specifiers in the commercial market can choose specific colours to fit with the overall project and even match the colours of their branding. “Doors can be different on each side - darker on the outside and subtle on the inside for example. There is also the option to colour the frames to match.” Lead times are currently 15 days. Doors are covered by a ten year guarantee. i system10aluminium.co.uk Aztec Windows is the latest company to sign-up as an affiliate supplier to window industry standards organisation, Network Veka. The Coventry based company fabricates high-spec products from The Veka UK Group - the use of which is a pre-requisite for Network Veka's 150-strong membership. One product that particularly factored in Aztec's affiliate membership is Halo's FlushSash system (pictured in situ) which, while faithful to the appearance of traditional wooden framed windows, provides all the modernday benefits of PVC-U replacements. John Ogilvie, MD of Network Veka, says: “Our members are keen to promote and sell products from The Veka UK Group. The FlushSash window through Aztec is a good example of this.” Aztec, which recently celebrated its 25th year of trading, was the first Halo customer to begin fabricating the FlushSash system. The Network instantly saw the potential in FlushSash, especially for properties situated in conservation areas where authentic looks are all-important. i networkveka.co.uk Composite Door CNC fabricators can now make seven popular door styles from just one door blank with the latest from DoorCo - the 6/4 Combi which has a midrail with the woodgrain pattern running through from top to bottom, enabling it to be made into any of the following styles: Six Panel Solid; Twin Vertical; Twin Top; Twin Top with Mid Panel; Half Glazed; Full Glazed; Four Glazed (twin and bottom). This not only makes the door extremely versatile but also drastically cuts the need for stock, as DoorCo MD Dan Sullivan explains: “Stock is always a challenge for all door fabricators especially for the lower volume fabricators because of the range of options available. The 6/4 Combi brings together seven of the most popular styles while taking up less space, tying up less money and simplifying ordering and invoicing." i capstonedoor.co.uk The Installer | Products & Projects | 25 Pg 25, 26, 29 Products November 2014:Pg 40.qxd 10/11/2014 14:23 Page 2 Products & Projects Dragons’ Invention Roars TV Dragon’s Den star Deborah Meaden and 19-year old inventor Jordan Daykin have a roaring success on their hands, according to sales figures released by IronmongeryDirect, the UK’s biggest online and mail order supplier of ironmongery products to the trade. Sales for their Grip It Fixings product have rocketed by over 600% since the show featured the invention on August 14, with tradespeople keen to get their hands on the latest innovation. Grip It is a new design of universal fixing, designed for use with all types of plasterboard installation. A wing design makes the fixing easily removable and reusable meaning no parts get lost in cavity walls. It can support loads of up to 180kg. To prove the strength of the fixings in the Den, Meaden put her trust in the product by sitting in a chair suspended by chains from a number of Grip It Fixings in a plasterboard wall. IronmongeryDirect, which supplies over 14,500 different products to the trade, report that in the weeks after the show, the fixings have become one of their top sellers. i ironmongerydirect.co.uk Network Veka has, over an 18-year history, settled remedial insurance claims totalling £1m. The organisation says that such a low amount pays testament to the workmanship of its members and specification of the products supplied. Besides its commitment to using Veka products, Network Veka accepts only companies that can demonstrate superior levels of workmanship, then invests in them to ensure their standards maintain and even surpass desired levels. Consequently, its confidence in the service provided means Network Veka member companies can offer their customers the organisation's 10-year insurance backed guarantees for all aspects of the installation. Network Veka MD, John Ogilvie explains: “Of course, we hope Network Veka customers never have to claim on their insurance but we also want them to know that we have a track record of paying for legitimate claims. It's why Network Veka only has the best installers – it's in our interest to ensure they do quality work, otherwise we'll end up paying for it.” i networkveka.co.uk Red Deal Windows has won three notable contracts to fabricate and install Halo window systems for charitable and residential housing schemes around Oldham and Rochdale. The developments, collectively comprising 51 new-build properties, are all being overseen by Wiggett Construction Ltd. The contractor has a 20-year working history with Red Deal, recently completing successful projects together in Oldham and Todmorden. Richard Garland for The Veka UK Group (halo's owner), says: “To see such a flourishing working relationship between a Halo fabricator and one of their region's most influential contractors is fantastic. Halo is the right product for all sorts of projects, it contributes to our customers' business success and provides outstanding comfort for their homes' eventual owners.” i halo-uk.com Solidor, came away from october's Grand Designs Live 2014 at the Birmingham NEC with a number of qualified leads. The event was packed with over 500 exhibitors across six different sections, covering interiors, gardens, food and housewares, kitchens and bathrooms, home improvement, self-build, renovations, technology and shopping. This was the second year that Solidor exhibited at the show with interest again high in their second generation composite doors. Gareth Mobley, MD of Solidor Group comments: "We’ve again captured the imagination of consumers with our products and marketing at Grand Designs and look forward to feeding the leads into our Recommended and Premium Installers. This changes the stable offering for the better,” says Jim Moody, MD. “In the past stable doors have proved cumbersome and difficult to use, meaning plenty of call-backs for adjustment," continues Moody. "Our new locking mechanism is light years away from this old model. The FUHR stable door gearing is two locking mechanisms which operate independently or in tandem for flexibility and security, while offering the same functionality as you would find on traditional timber products. The lower opening sash also incorporates a simple turn dead-lock lever rather than a second set of handles in the vertical or horizontal plane. “There has been a resurgence in stable doors recently, in part thanks to the popularity of composite doors but where this style is required on the back of a property homeowners are still choosing PVC-U over composite. Of course we can offer both options but we wanted our installer customers to be armed with the best PVC-U option available. With the addition of this new gearing, a range of colour options including black, grey, cream and chartwell green and a lead time of 7 days, we believe we have done just that.” i tradelinkdirect.co.uk Synseal has published a new technical brochure which summarises all available product designs in the company’s extensive Orangery Collection. Crammed with isometric cut-throughs and dimensioned section drawings to deliver hard facts detailing the different orangery solutions with no sales waffle, this Orangery Collection technical brochure was designed to support Synseal’s programme of orangery installation workshops for fabricator partners and Synseal Registered Installers (SRIs) in Autumn 2014. i synseal.com Synseal’s fabricated range of Evolve Bi-fold doors has been enhanced with the addition of new anodised aluminium tracks and Artisan woodgrain foil colour finishes. Previously available in a choice of solid White PVC-U and Golden Oak and Cherrywood woodgrain foil colours, the Evolve Bifold range now boasts new Woodgrain White, Woodgrain Brilliant White, Cream, Irish Oak, Chartwell Green and Grey foil finishes selected from Synseal’s Artisan woodgrain collection. These additional Artisan colours are available for use in conjunction with newly-introduced aluminium tracks in anodised Silver or Gold finish. Advance can be used ‘out of the box’ with cut and corner keys and on existing machinery. For large-scale sealed unit makers, Swisspacer offers automated benders and welders with very short cycle times for increased productivity.
