Today is the 3rd Sunday of Advent.
Advent is a time of joyous anticipation, but also of penance and preparation for the great Christmas feast.
The liturgical color of the season is
purple, a sign of penance, which is
also used during Lent.

Advent Reflections
Join us in the church for prayers and meditations on the
Readings for Advent. Reflections will be given:
Saturday’s before the 5:00 p.m. Mass
Sunday’s after the 8:30 a.m. Mass.
The Jesse Tree
Jesse was the father of King David.
He is often looked upon as the first person in the genealogy of Jesus. We adorn a
Jesse Tree with illustrated ornaments that
represent the people, prophesies, and
events leading up to the birth of Jesus.
The ornaments of the Jesse Tree tell the story of God in
the Old Testament, connecting the Advent season with the
faithfulness of God across four thousand years of history.
The Giving Tree
We have a Giving Tree to supply
Christmas gifts to those less fortunate
located near the altar of the church. We
will be helping some of the needy children in our parish and the children in the
Rockaways who are still recovering from
the devastation caused by Hurricane
Sandy. If you wish to donate a gift, please choose an
ornament from the giving tree, purchase the gift, and
return it unwrapped before Christmas. Thank you.
Christmas Poinsettias
The poinsettias which adorn our altar
at Christmas time, can be memorialized
in honor of a loved one. These plants
differ from the regular Christmas flower
collection envelope. Contact Sister Margaret in the Rectory to memorialize one for a loved one. Please submit
your request by Christmas. Thank you.
