PASTOR’S CORNER The 2014 WORLD MISSION SUNDAY APPEAL is next week. BE PREPARED! In the early 19th century in France, a young laywoman, Pauline Jaricot, became inspired by news of the missions of her day – our own country included! She began gathering together small groups – mostly workers in her family’s silk factory. She asked each member of the group to offer daily prayer and a weekly sacrifice of a sou (the equivalent of a penny at that time), insisting that her efforts be for all the Church’s missions. From Pauline’s vision came the Society for the Propagation of the Faith. The first collection in 1822 supported the vast diocese of Louisiana, and the missions of Kentucky and China. The second collection next weekend will help support the Church’s youngest mission diocese in Mongolia along with 1,150 other mission dioceses. In a world where so much divides us, World Mission Sunday rejoices in our unity as missionary disciples of Jesus Christ. Our brothers and sisters in the Missions themselves offer their prayers and sacrifices so that others may come to know Jesus! Blessings, Fr. John ST. MARELLO BOOKSTORE We are open today. Pat Gohn, author of “Blessed, Beautiful and Bodacious” will present “The Four Beautiful Gifts that All Women Have”, today 12 at 2:30 p.m. in the Parish Center, room 41 Pat will sign her book at the bookstore after the 9:30, 11, & 5:30 Masses and after the afternoon presentation. With humor, faith, and the open-hearted tone of a trusted mentor, Gohn will share how she became empowered to embrace her blessings, beauty, and bodaciousness, and how readers can do the same. With Pat will be Emily Espinola, Director of Programs for ENDOW. ENDOW (Educating on the Nature and Dignity of Women) is a Catholic Educational program that helps women discover their God-given dignity and understand their role in humanizing and transforming society. Emily will explain the opportunity to join or form an ENDOW group. The “All Saints Children’s Club” will meet at 2:30. They will learn about the “Miracle of the Sun”, the final apparition of Our Lady to the three children at Fatima. They will pray the Rosary as Our Lady instructed the children to do at Fatima and will enjoy a craft project based on Our Lady’s appearance at Fatima. St. Anne Chapel 36483 Road 606 - Raymond WWW.STANNESCHAPEL.ORG • Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament today. •Pro-Life Rosary at the Family Planning Association Medical Group, 165 North Clark Street, Fresno, Thursday, October 16, at 9 am for one hour. The Saturday - Sunday daytime workshop, held in Holy Spouses Hall, is for married and engaged couples, as well as interested individuals. Donation: $20 per person or $30 per couple. Applications are available at the parish office. Registration is required by Monday, October 13. Fee doubles for late registrations. MARRIAGE, DIVORCE & ANNULMENT There is no other topic more sensitive to many Catholics than the Church’s teachings on marriage and divorce. Why so many rules about marriage? Can I attend a wedding of a Catholic marrying outside the Church? What about Catholics married only civilly? Why does the Church oppose divorce? What is an annulment? Aren’t annulments just “Catholic divorce”? Can divorced and remarried Catholics receive Holy Communion? Don’t miss this important presentation! Sunday, Oct. 28, 2:30 pm, Parish Center. (behind Marello bookstore.)
