As we continue to celebrate the Christmas Season, the Faculty, Staff, Students and Parents at Saint Joseph School wish to thank you for your continued support and prayers as we enter our 100th school year in 2015. One hundred years of teaching the Gospel message and helping parents raise successful, faith-filled young men and women. During this coming year we will continue to keep you, the parishioners at Saint Joseph and Saint Mary in our prayers. We will continue to reach out to others and help throughout the community. This year we reached out as a school community to raise money for the needy – in this community and throughout the state. We collected coats and boots and toiletries, we helped out younger students and older folks. We wrote cards for those in nursing homes and reached out to those in the hospital. We prayed for the sick, the departed and those facing challenges in our own homes and around the world. Our prayer for 2015 will be for peace and that we may make a difference in all that we do and all that we say. God bless you! Mrs. Katherin Sniffin Catholic Schools Month - In honor of Catholic Schools Month, Saint Joseph School will hold an Open House on Sunday, January 25th from 12:00-2:00 p.m. and also on Tuesday, January 27th from 9:00-11:30 a.m. All are welcome to attend, including current students, alumni and prospective students. Did you know that every summer Saint Joseph School disburses several thousands of dollars in college scholarships through the Whalon Scholarship Fund? Through a generous bequest, Marion H. and Dorothy M. Whalon established the Whalon Scholarship to provide for funding of higher education to graduates of Saint Joseph School. Every year, graduates of SJS apply and receive money to defray the costs of college tuition, room and board, textbooks, and commuting expenses. In fact, at least one SJS graduate and recipient received MORE college scholarship funds from SJS and the Whalon Scholarship Fund than total tuition paid in the nine years of attending Saint Joseph School. Wow! Talk about a return on your investment in Saint Joseph School!! PEG JOHNSON SCHOLARSHIP Applications for the 2015-2016 awarding of the Peg Johnson Scholarship are now available. The Peg Johnson Scholarship is awarded in memory of Margaret “Peg” Johnson, a former teacher at Saint Mary School. Children who are active Saint Mary or Saint Joseph parishioners, and who are attending a local Catholic School, and who are entering the fifth or sixth grade in the fall are eligible. Please call Carol at Saint Mary Rectory, 203-235-0519, or Saint Joseph School, 203-237-6800, to receive an application or for further information. Prayer for Peace Lord, make me an instrument of Your Peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; Where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may seek Not so much to be consoled as to console; To be understood as to understand; To be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; It is in pardoning that we are pardoned; And it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life. Amen. St. Francis of Assisi (1181-1226) Page 3 ST. JOSEPH / ST. Call the rectory to update information or to add names to the list. Loving and Generous God, it is You who call us by name and ask us to follow You. Help us to grow in the Love and Service of our Church as we experience it today. . Give us the energy and courage of Your Spirit to shape its future The Sunday school teacher was describing that when Lot's wife looked back at Sodom she turned into a pillar of salt, when Bobby interrupted, "My mommy looked back once while she was driving," he announced, "and she turned into a telephone pole." Grant us faith-filled leaders who will embrace Christ's Mission of love and justice. Bless the Church of Saint Mary by raising up dedicated and generous leaders from our families and friends who will serve Your people as Sisters, Priests, Brothers, Deacons and Lay Ministers. Inspire us to know You better and open our hearts to hear Your call. We ask this through our Lord. (www.usccb.org) ON THE LIGHTER SIDE... Another Sunday school teacher said to her children, "We have been learning about how powerful the kings and queens were in Biblical times. But there is a higher power. Who can tell me what it is?" Tommy blurted out, "I know...Aces." Lot again... A father was reading Bible stories to his young son. He read, "the man named Lot was warned to take his wife and flee out of the city, but his wife looked back and was turned into a pillar of salt." His son asked, "What happened to the flea?"
