Issue XII Winter 2010
Saint Joseph’s Journal A Publication for the alumni and friends of Saint Joseph School Issue XII Winter 2010 Dear Alumni & Friends Winter is about to make way for spring – the Lenten season is leading the way to new growth. We are half way through the school year already, this is our fourth year in our new location ~ hard to believe. We have had some changes at school this year. We are happy to announce that we have hired a new administrator Mrs. Carol Hoard. Mrs. Hoard joins us after serving thirteen years with St. Paul Catholic School in Wrightstown. This year she is teaching second grade half days and working her magic in the principal’s role each afternoon (and then some). Mr. Keith Krause continues to teach our seventh and eighth grade students. We thank him for his years of service in the dual administrator and teacher role. Along with a new administrator, we have added a teacher to our staff to teach second grade. The first and second grade classes have been split this year. Ms. Rebecca Padlock is teaching first grade – she taught both first and second last year. Mrs. Jamie Gegare is teaching our second grade students in the afternoon. We are blessed to have a fantastic faculty. We hope you enjoy this edition of the journal and that you keep your alma mater in your prayers so that we may continue growing and sharing the Good News! Welcome Mrs. Hoard Hello! My name is Carol Hoard and it is my privilege to be the new principal of St. Joseph School. I have served as a principal in the Diocese of Green Bay for the past 15 years and am excited to share my ideas with the St. Joseph School community. The Arts Integrated curriculum presented at St. Joe’s offers students a creative outlet in a variety of subject areas. It is our goal to encourage students to be leaders in and out of the classroom through academic, spiritual and social opportunities. With each passing day, I am happy that I am a part of this dynamic school where innovative programs are met with sound educational guidelines. On a personal note, my husband John and I have four children. My oldest son works as a technology consultant in Milwaukee. My only daughter is an analyst at Kohl’s corporate headquarters in Menominee Falls, WI. My second oldest son serves in the United States Air Force and is currently stationed in Misawa, Japan. My youngest son is a freshman at UW Milwaukee pursuing his love of art. With this being the first year without any children at home I am thrilled to be able to come to work each day and be surrounded with all the excitement of children. St. Joseph School has always had a reputation for providing solid academic and spiritual education and I assure you that this tradition is continuing at our fine school. St. Joseph’s Journal Class of 1955 to Celebrate 55 Golden Years! Pg2 The class of 1955 will be celebrating fifty five years since graduation. James Steber is the class administrator and Judy Leanna Roehl assistant class administrator serving for the reunion. The class is still looking for the following students: Eugene Cesauski, Florence Charles, Patricia Daul, Betty Lance, Patricia O’Donnell, Ruby Pluger, Sandra Saunders and Tom Wilson. If you know of their whereabouts or a family member’s visit the website www.classreport.org/usa/wi/greenbay/sjgs/1955/ or call or email Judy Leanna Roehl at 715-362-7660 gramaudy@newnorth.net. We look forward to hearing about the fun you will all have catching up on those great grade school days! Arts Integration Academic Honors With the school year in high gear some of our students have been honored for their excellent academic skills. Kindergartener Quintin Herdman won a coloring contest with channel 26 and was given front row seats to the Holiday Parade in downtown Green Bay. One of the unique things about St. Joseph School is the arts integrated teaching that occurs in all subjects. So far this year our classes have been busy with arts integrated projects. We would like to share a few of the things they have done: • • • • • Seventh grader Spencer Ness won the Right to Life essay contest sponsored by Knights of Columbus. Eighth grader Trent Ness won the Right to Life essay contest sponsored by Knights of Columbus. Congratulations to all students! • The Kindergarten students worked on their five senses and studied textures by feeling an item in a bag and matching it to the same texture on a game board. The First grade students made instruments as part of their noun studies. They then wrote a song with their nouns and played the instruments. The Second grade students created lava suckers as part of the lava rock unit in science. Third and fourth grade students are currently working on a wheel of knowledge in relation to famous inventions and inventors. The Fifth and Sixth grade students focused on The Wizard of Oz and specifically studied illustrations in the movie and various books and applied all images into their own illustration displayed in the hallways of school. The Seventh and Eighth grade students created a game and game board using materials provided to them. The theme was the science unit they were working on.
