ADORATION of the BLESSED SACRAMENT:
The church is open daily from 7:15 am to approximately 6
pm. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is encouraged by
spotlighting the Tabernacle outside the times of the Holy
Sacrifice.
HOLY COMMUNION: We welcome to the Holy Mass all
who share our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. While all are
welcome here, we cannot extend to all an invitation to receive
Holy Communion. This is not for lack of Christian hospitality.
Rather, it is the recognition by the Catholic Church that real
divisions of faith and practice do sadly exist among
Christians. Practicing Catholics who go to Confession
whenever needed are invited to receive Holy Communion.
Non-Catholic Christians and those Catholics in need of the
Sacrament of Penance are asked to pray for a spiritual
communion with the Lord Jesus and for the unity of His
Church.

Use of Contribution Envelopes
Those who insist on anonymity in contributing to the parish
are asked to use the parish contribution envelopes and mark
the contribution space -0- or -?-. This will enable pastor to
know you are a practicing Catholic and regularly attend Mass
for reasons noted under Sponsor Certificates.
Sponsor Certificates
To act as Sponsors of Baptism/Confirmation, certificates are
gladly issued to registered members of the Basilica of the CoCathedral of the Sacred Heart who have received the
Sacrament of Confirmation, are known to attend Mass
regularly by use of envelopes, receive Holy Communion
regularly, have children receiving Catholic Religious
Education and, if married, have done so in conformity with
the regulations of the Catholic Church. Same criteria required
for families to receive special parish rates for SHGS tuition.

The Annual Boy Scout Troop 2

8:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Sacred Heart Grade
School cafeteria. The cost for adults is $6.00
each and for students and seniors 65 or older

Dear Monsignor Sadie,
Many times have I thought of writing this letter but after my experience of this Christmas Eve, I feel
compelled to do so, just to help me release some steam.
When searching for a new parish years ago, I sought a church that held to tradition and reverence of
the Blessed Sacrament that was present in the main body of the church. I was so pleased to see that at
Sacred Heart the Blessed Sacrament was not hidden away in a small chapel somewhere. I was also
very impressed that chatting in the church was frowned upon and a quiet reverence was requested.
Sacred Heart brought me closer to values and respect that should be offered to our Lord.
Sadly, occasionally, I end up by folks who act as though they are visiting over the dinner table, totally
ignoring the fact that they are in the presence of Almighty God. This behavior is so much more
prevalent during the Christmas and Easter celebrations. I do understand that the joy of having visiting
relatives tends to lend to more conversation, even in church, but what I experienced at 5:00 PM Mass
was inexcusable. I had brought my husband whom you had baptized just a few weeks ago. His
dementia often keeps him confused and crowds intimidate him, but he was happy to be in church for
Christmas Eve. Unfortunately, we ended up with two women and three children directly behind us
who talked incessantly. They visited through the Christmas Carols, through the prayers and the final
straw was when they talked through your homily! Even the woman in front of me was holding her
right ear shut, trying to hear you with her left! Finally, my husband and I moved closer to the front to
two aisle chairs where I sat behind him so I could keep watch on him. I felt that either I needed to
move or leave but I was determined to be allowed to enjoy the Mass of Our Savior’s birth in peace.
This arrangement was better, although the two teens beside me visited through some of the remainder
of the Mass. I hope I am not being over-sensitive in being annoyed with this behavior and I know
there is very little you can do to correct the situation. I guess I just need to vent. I know the choice of
watching a Mass on television or the internet is also an option, but I would miss out on receiving Our
Lord in the Holy Eucharist. It’s something to think about.

Lenten Adult Enrichment Program
The Devil You Don't Know
The Cross and the Beatitudes': Lessons on Love and
Forgiveness by Fulton J. Sheen is the topic of the
Lenten Adult Enrichment Program. Two sections of
this program will be offered. Section I begins on
Sunday, February 1-March 22, 2015 from 10:2011:20 a.m. Section II begins on February 3-March 24,
2015 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Both sections meet in
the Sacred Heart Family Life Center on Quarrier
Street. Jesus began His teaching ministry on the
Mount of Beatitudes with the Sermon on the Mount
and concluded His teaching on Hill of Calvary with
His Seven Last Words. Throughout His ministry
Jesus teaches us by word and by example of how to
love and forgive others and ourselves as His Father
has loved and forgiven us. In this book, the Late
Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen provides us with practical
applications of these Scriptures as these
Scriptures relate to the "unreal" world in which we
live. Pre-registration is required. The cost of the book

The Devil You Don't Know by Reverend Louis J. Cameli is
the title of the Spring Catholic Book Club Selection. If Jesus
was tempted in the desert, what makes us think we are
exempt from temptation? Father Cameli, nationally renowned
pastoral leader and priest in the Archdiocese of Chicago,
paints a challenging, unsettling portrait of the devil who tempts
us in often quiet less-visible ways of deception, division,
diversion and discouragement. The book is published by Ave
Maria Press (ISBN-10:59471-272-7).
The Spring Catholic Book Club will meet one night only on
Tuesday evening March 3, 2015 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the
Sacred Heart Family Life Center on Quarrier Street. Light
refreshments will be provided. The only requirement to attend
the book club is that a person must read The Devil You Don't
Know prior to the meeting and be willing to participate in the
discussion.

WHAT IS THE TOUR?
Our goal is to provide an inspiring, fun and faith-filled
youth night that will help young people fall more deeply in
love with Jesus and His Church. These regional gatherings
were designed to supplement youth ministry in parishes
who already have active youth ministry and to serve as a
model for those who do not.
At 6:00 P.M. we will offer an informational meeting about
our AWESOME diocesan camp. Camp Bosco is a weeklong residential summer camp in Huttonsville, WV for
young people 7 to 15 years old. Learn more at

Free Throw Competition

January 24, 10 am-1 pm
Sacred Heart Grade School Gym
Boys and girls between 9-14 are eligible to participate.
Entrants compete against youngsters of the same age and
gender in all five divisions: 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 year olds.
Each participant may compete in only one council
competition. Competitors get fifteen free throws and the
one who scores the highest wins. In case of a tie there is a
5 shot tie breaker until a winner emerges. Winners of the
local council competitions progress to the District level.
Winners of the District level will progress to the State level,
and winners of that may go on to national and
international competitions. Age eligibility is determined
by the age of a contestant as of January 1, 2015.
Contestants are required to furnish proof of
age and parental consent. Registration
tables will be set up in the GYM.

Books Needed for Sacred Heart
Community Library
Since the Sacred Heart Community Library began
in August 2014, the response by parishioners has
been overwhelming. We need donations of more
books for the library. If you have a book or books
by a noted Catholic author, or publisher with an
Imprimatur that you are willing to donate to the
library, please put them in the Sacred Heart
Community Library, which is located in the
Gathering Space. The Sacred Heart community
Library operates on the honor system of BRING A
BOOK OR TAKE A BOOK. More people read
during the winter months than at any other time of
the year. What greater way to share your faith with
others than by donating or returning books to our
Sacred Heart Community Library.
