June brings office experience and expertise in internet technology to this position, both of which are great assets. We officially welcome June to the Deer Park team! Ministry of Social Justice and Outreach Coldest Night of the Year Walk: Support Acadia Place and Feed the Hungry on February 21. Recyclable bottles and cans: As many of you know the recyclables we collect here at Deer Park are donated to an on-going Sri-Lanka Post Tsunami Humanitarian Project. An update on this project can be found on the Deer Park bulletin board. Campbell Soup Labels: M-m-m-good! Have you had your bowl of soup lately? If so, did you remove the Campbell Soup label to be included in the collection various United Churches are making to help buy equipment for schools? Please, when saving the labels, be sure to include the bar code with at least part of the label. It is that bar code that is important, then turn in your labels to either Deer Park United or the St. Andrews Centre where they will be counted and sent to Robert McCluer United to be sent to Campbell Soup collection agency. Thank you for helping. Joye Brown Deer Ridge Kids FREE City of Calgary Afterschool Program: Every Tuesday and Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Ministry of Spiritual Formation Women of Spirit Are you hungering for conversation, connection and community? We have prepared a veritable smorgasbord of ideas to whet the appetite for soulful living. All women welcome. Wednesday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Our next meeting is Wednesday, January 14th. The Sunday morning children's program is in need of egg cartons for an upcoming craft. If you have any egg cartons that you are no longer using could you please bring them in to Lisa, Denise, or June. Thank you! The Progressive Dinner Ministry of Worship The numbers are in: 9 fabulous choirs, 8 skilled accompanists, 1 versatile drummer, 2 talented violinists, 202 joyful singers, 1 excited minister to welcome and bless us, 151 appreciative invited guests, 1 rousing standing ovation, 1 busy sound person, 1 attentive powerpoint operator, 4 hospitable ushers and bulletin folders, 2 helpful office admin staff, "too many to count" helpful hands to organize the sanctuary space and the refreshments, and $520.80 generously donated to the "Benevolent Fund". Sincere thanks to everyone who helped make the recent Twelfth Night Choral Celebration evening a resounding success. Ministry of Health and Healing Food for Thought Tuesdays, 9:15 - 10:30am - We are reading The Power of Habit: Why we do what we do in life and Business by Charles Duhigg. (available chapters or the library) This book talks about how habits are formed and also how to kick bad ones and hang on to the ones that are good! Newcomers welcome. If you have a story to tell (a song, a poem, a dance or other medium), with a focus on coming out from a faith or spiritual perspective, come to Hillhurst United, 6 – 9 pm on Sunday, January, 18. They will work with you to get them stage ready and support you. Coming Out in Faith performance will take place on Friday, March 27 at Hillhurst United Church, as part of our Affirming Anniversary weekend. The Alberta Pastoral Care Association (Calgary) invites you to attend the Annual Meeting on Monday, March 9th, 2015 at Carewest Colonel Belcher, 1939 Veterans Way NW from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm The keynote speaker will be Dr. Eric Wasylenko, Medical Director,Clinical Ethics of Alberta Health Services His topic will be Companionship in End of Life Care: Addressing Some Challenges Dr. Wasylenko is a palliative physician and actively practised in Calgary. He was instrumental in founding Foothills Country Hospice in Okotoks. Registration: 6:00 pm to 6:30 pm. Dinner: 6:30 pm. The presentation: 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm. The annual meeting: 8:30 pm until 9:00 pm. The event is open to anyone who provides pastoral care in congregations, hospitals, care facilities, hospice and other contexts of ministry. Since 2003, First Metropolitan United Church has invited clergy and laity from across North America for an eclectic mix of presentations, music and visual arts.
