Islãm is the most misunderstood religion. Islãm is the obedience of
the Creator which our every cell is doing. Every electron is rotating
according to Allah's order. Your heart and my heart is beating due
to Allah’s orders. Even if you want to die you can not die without
Allah's orders. This is Islãm. Allah has given us the choice in a few
matters but He has guided us in the form of Islam (Qurãn and His
final messenger). Wise are those who apply Allah's guidance in
those matters too.

Yes, man discovers but who directs man? Several good and
unbiased westerners have recognized this power of Islam which
disciplines human mind and takes human mind out of mythology
and superstitions. Islãm is 180 degree opposite to mythology and
superstitions. Not only the Islãm of Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam) but the Islãm of Musa (A.S.) also told the human beings
not to follow Jibt (Superstition) and to stand firm against Ta'ghoot
(false gods like Pharoah, etc.). When the children of Israel did not
obey the command, they were severely punished. Due to influence
of Qurãn, the Muslims shunned all Greek mythology and actually
started measuring and weighing. Soon they were discovering orbits
of the stars. From Steel, cheap paper, mirrors, numerous chemicals,
Arabic numbers, zero, algebra, logarithm, and decimal systems etc.
Muslims made great in-roads. They laid the foundation of all
modern sciences. They originated Hospitals and the Universities.

It can be safely said that behind every invention today is Qurãn. It
was Qurãn which produced Ibni -Seena (Father of modern
Medicine). It was Quran which produced Qasim Az-Zahrawi, it
was Qurãn which produced Al-Baironi, and it was Qurãn which
produced Ibn-e-Haitham (The father of modern physics) it was
Jabir Bin Hayan who founded modern Chemistry and Laboratory
sciences.
When there were 100 hospitals in Qurtubah (Cordoba) there was
none in the entire Europe. The first hospitals in Non Muslim
Europe were created 300 years after Qurtubah. Ibni Seena's Qanoon
Fit Tib was in medical curricula of Europe of 600-700 years and
same was true for At-Tasreef of Az-Zahrawi (The book of surgery).
Zahrawi used cat gut; inhalation anaesthesia and laparoscope etc.
1000 years back and invented many surgical instruments.
A real currency buys you something worthwhile while a fake
currency may lead you to jail. Separation of Islãm from real life will
lead to anarchy as can be witnessed in Europe today. While all fake
ideologies cause retardation of science, the true religion which now
is Islãm and always had been Islãm leads to a balanced growth of
soul, mind, body on one hand and individual and society on the
other hand.
Pop Culture in the
Name of Islam
By YVONNE RIDLEY
I FEEL very uncomfortable about
the pop culture which is growing
around some so-called Nasheed
artists. Of course I use the term
‘Nasheed artists' very lightly.
Islamic ‘boy bands' and Muslim
‘popsters' would probably be more
appropriate. Eminent scholars
throughout history have often
opined that music is haram, and I
don't recall reading anything about
the Sahaba whooping it up to the
sound of music. Don't get me
wrong. I'm all for people letting off
steam, but in a dignified manner
and one which is appropriate to
their surroundings.
The reason I am expressing concern
is that just a few days ago at a
venue in Central London, sisters
went wild in the aisles as some
form of pop-mania swept through
the concert venue. And I'm not just
talking about silly, little girls who
don't know any better; I am talking
about sisters in their 20's, 30's and
40's, who squealed, shouted,
swayed and danced. Even the
security guys who looked more like
pipe cleaners than bulldozers were
left looking dazed and confused as
they tried to stop hijabi sisters from
standing on their chairs. Of course
the stage groupies did not help at
all as they waved and encouraged
the largely female Muslim crowd to
"get up and sing along." (They're
called ‘Fluffers' in lap-dancing
circles!)
The source of all this adulation was
British-born Sami Yusuf, who is so
proud of his claret-coloured
passport that he wants us all to
wave the Union Jacks. I'm amazed
he didn't encourage his fans to sing
"Land of Hope and Glory." Brother
Sami asked his audience to cheer if
they were proud to be British ,and
when they responded loudly, he
said he couldn't hear them and
asked them to cheer again.
ATTARBIYAH
How can anyone be proud to be
British? Britain is the third most
hated country in the world. The
Union Jack is drenched in the blood
of our brothers and sisters across
Iraq, Afghanistan, and Palestine.
Our history is steeped in the blood
of colonialism, rooted in slavery,
brutality, torture, and oppression.
And we haven't had a decent game
of soccer since we lifted the World
Cup in 1966.
Apparently Sami also said one of
the selling points of Brand UK was
having Muslims in the
M e t r o p o l i t a n P o l i ce F o r ce !
Astafur'Allah! Dude, these are the
same cops who have a shoot-to-kill
policy and would have gunned
down a Muslim last year if they
could tell the difference between a
Bangladeshi and a Brazilian. This is
the same police force that has
raided more than 3000 Muslim
homes in Britain since 9/11. What
sort of life is there on Planet Sami, I
wonder? If he is so proud to be
British, why is he living in the great
Middle Eastern democracy of
Egypt?
Apparently the sort of hysteria
Sami helped encourage is also in
America, and if it is happening on
both sides of the Atlantic, then it
must be creeping around the globe
and poisoning the masses. Islamic
boy bands like 786 and Mecca 2
Medina are also the subject of the
sort of female adulation you expect
to see on American Pop Idol or the
X-Factor. Surely Islamic events
should be promoting restrained
and more sedate behaviour.
Do we blame the out-of-control
sisters? Or do we blame the
organizers for allowing this sort of
e xc e s si v e b e h a v i o u r w h i ch
demeans Islam? Or do we blame
the artists themselves?
Abu Ali and Abu Abdul Malik,
struggling for their Deen, would
certainly not try to whip up this
sort of hysteria. Neither would the
anonymous heroic Nasheed artists
2
who sing for freedom; check out
Idhrib Ya Asad Fallujah, and you
will know exactly what I mean.
Fallujah is now synonymous with
the sort of heroic resistance that
elevated the Palestinians of Jenin to
the ranks of the resistance written
about in the Paris Commune and
the Siege of Leningrad. The US
military has banned the playing of
any Nasheeds about Fallujah
because of the power and the
passion it evokes. If those Nasheeds
had sisters running in the streets
whooping and dancing, however,
the Nasheeds may be encouraged
beca u se o f h aram activity
surrounding them.
Quite frankly, I really don't know
how anyone in the Ummah can
really let go and scream and shout
with joy at pleasure domes when
there is so much brutality and
suffering going on in the world
today. The rivers of blood flow
freely from the veins of our
brothers and sisters from across the
Muslim world. Screaming and
shouting the names of musical
heroes drown out the screams
coming from the dungeons of
Uzbekistan where brothers and
sisters are boiled alive in vats of
water. How many will jump up and
down and wave their arms in the
air, shouting wildly for justice for
our kin in Kashmir, Afghanistan,
Chechnya, Palestine, and Iraq?
There are many more killing fields
as well across the Asian and Arab
world. Will you climb on theatre
chairs and express your rage over
Guantanamo Bay and other gulags
where our brothers and sisters are
being tortured, raped, sodomized,
beaten, and burned? Or will you
just switch off this concerned sister
and switch on to the likes of Sami
Yusuf because he can sell you a
pipe dream with his soothing
words and melodic voice? Oh,
Muslims, wake up! The Ummah is
not bleeding; it is hemorrhaging.
Listen not to what is haram. Listen
to the pain of your global family.

The Reality of Worldly Life
Compiled By :
ÃRIFBILLAH SHAYKH HAKEEM MUHAMMAD
AKHTAR (MZ)
HADITH
It is narrated by Abu Hurairah
(R.A) that the Prophet of Allah
(Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam)
said: "The life time of persons
belonging to my Ummah will be
between sixty and seventy years
and very few among them will
exceed this age".
Explanation
When so much has been known
by a Muslim regarding his age, it
is only proper that he should not
waste his precious life time in
frivolous and useless occupation
to earn the displeasure of Allah.
When a Muslim believes that an
external life is to follow this
worldly life, he should seriously
prepare for it by performing acts
of charity and benevolence,
obedience to Allah and His
Prophet and should shun and
avoid carnal desires and base
urges of human nature which
land a person into abysmal
depth of sin and disloyalty to
Allah, earning his displeasure.
HADITH
It is narrated by Amr (R.A), son
of Sohail on the authority of his
father and grandfather that the
Prophet of Allah (Sallallahu
Alayhi Wasallam) said: "The
first morality of this community
consists in faith and
abstemiousness and the first of
th e ir c o rr u p t io n is l ies
miserliness and vain hopes". (Bi
Haqqi)
ATTARBIYAH
Explanation
By faith is meant the firm belief
in the sustenance of Allah which
He has promised to provide to
every living being on earth.
Abstemiousness
means
disregard and want of
inclination to the worldly
pleasure and prosperity. When a
man has unwavering faith in the
promise of Allah for livelihood,
he will not be a miser. When he
will have no affinity or attraction
for the pleasure of worldly life,
he will not indulge in vain hopes
and expectations and will not be
lazy or unmindful in the
performance of good deeds.
Belief in the following realities
will determine perfection of faith
of a true Muslim:
(i) Firm belief in the oneness of
Allah and that nothing can
happen without his order.
(ii) Firm belief in the promise of
Allah to provide sustenance or
livelihood.
(iii) Firm belief that good and
bad deeds will be suitably
rewarded by Allah after death.
(iv) Firm belief that Allah, the
Exalted, knows all our actions
and all conditions of our minds.
Imam Abul Hassan Shazli has
stated that two qualities play the
role of a curtain between Allah
and His servant -- first is the
anxiety for livelihood and
second is the fear of human
beings who are all alike.
It is narrated that Sufyan Sauri (a
famous Muslim saint) said:
3
"Abstemiousness does not
consist of wearing of coarse and
thick clothe or in eating unpalatable food. The reality of
abstemiousness consists in
cutting down the worldly
desires.
Abstemiousness is regarded as
the opposite of worldliness. It is
quality of the mind. The mind
should rise up and above all
worldly desires, temptations,
avarice and longings and should
be sound with Allah and
saturated with His love and
never failing memory. At this
stage of the mind, worldly
possessions or indulgence in
legitimate will not be harmful.
As against this, poverty and
rough living will not be called
abstemiousness if the desires of
worldly belonging and comforts
and prosperity persist in the
mind and keep it uneasy and
remote from the love and
memory of Allah. Real "Zuhd" or
austerity will be achieved by
raising the mind above all
worldly considerations and
shutting its door to aught except
the love and obedience of Allah.
It has a very high spiritual status
and cannot be achieved without
very hard effort in seeking
correct religious knowledge and
making that knowledge the basis
of very superior and making that
knowledge the basis of very
superior good deeds performed
for the pleasure of Allah.

“Allah only intends to keep (all sorts of) filth away from you, O members of the family (Ahl al-Bayt of the
Prophet), and to make you pure through a perfect purification”
The above verse of the Qur’ān from Surah Al Ahzāb is a blessed testimony from Allah the
Almighty expressing the importance of the Ahl al-Bayt and to illustrate their status amongst the
Ummah as people who have been perfected and purified. The Ahl al-Bayt are those who have been
perfected by the teachings and understandings of the blessed Prophet ‫صلى اهلل عليه واله وسلم‬on earth,
and at the same time purified from sins from the heavens by Allah. Such a blessed testimony and
status is of no surprise for those who lived their lives in the household of the Prophet ‫صلى اهلل عليه واله‬
‫وسلم‬and were taught directly by him.
The Majority of the famous Mufasirīn are on the opinion the above verse was revealed for Fātimah,
Alī, Hassan and Husseinf, however there are a few who are on the opinion that the wives of the
Prophet , ‫ صلى اهلل عليه واله وسلم‬his Uncle Abbās and his family f are also included amongst the Ahl alBayt.
Imam Ahmad states from Abī Sa’īd Al Khudrī (R.A.) ‘that it was revealed for five, the Prophet ‫
Alī, Fātimah, Hassan and Hussein’, the same was narrated by Ibn Jarīr and Tabranī.
Their opinions were based on the famous hadīth al Kisā (Garment) where Muslim narrates, ‘The
Prophet ‫صلى اهلل عليه واله وسلم‬had summoned them and covered them under his garment and recited
the above verse, saying ‘O Allah these are my family and my special people, cleanse them from
filth and purify them through a perfect purification’. Umm Salamah (R.A.) one of the wives of the
Prophet ‫صلى اهلل عليه واله وسلم‬was standing asked, ‘Am I one of them?’
replied saying, ‘You are in the good”.
In another narration after the purification the Prophet ‫صلى اهلل عليه واله وسلم‬said, ‘I declare war on
those who declares war on them, peace on those who declares peace on them. I am an enemy of
those who show enmity towards them’, and in another narration after placing the garment over
them the Prophet ‫صلى اهلل عليه واله وسلم‬placed his hand on them and recited saying, ‘O Allah certainly
these are the family of Muhammad, place your blessings and mercy on the family of Muhammad,
verily you are the Most Praiseworthy’. Umm Salamah says, ‘I raised the garment to enter with
them, but he (The Prophet (‫صلى اهلل عليه واله وسلم‬took it away from my hand and said’, ‘you are in a
good place’.

The above Qur’ānic verse sends a very clear message to the believers of this Ummah, presenting
the virtues and the status of Ahl al-Bayt, of protecting them and looking after their affairs. The
Holy verse starts with the wording ‫إنما‬which refers to ( )‫الحصر‬where the following indicates to a
commandment or an order.2 Here Allah commands for all the filth and sins to be removed from

them, and to be cleansed from any inappropriate and unethical characteristics and behavior, which
some scholars have included being pardoned from Hell, being the ultimate virtue through this
purification. Enough is to say that many Mufasirīn have calculated over thirteen verses from the
Qur’ān related to Ahl al-Bayt.3
As for the virtue and status of them the following hadīth are evident to their position:
‫ن‬

The Prophet ‫صلى اهلل عليه واله وسلم‬said, ‘Allah the Almighty has kept the entire Prophet’s linage by
their hearts, where as Allah the Almighty has kept my linage through the heart of Alī’.4
The Prophet ‫صلى اهلل عليه واله وسلم‬said, ‘I called upon my Lord for my Ahl al-Bayt not to be entered
into the fire, and it was granted’.5
The Prophet ‫صلى اهلل عليه واله وسلم‬said, ‘Certainly Fātimah has guarded her chastity, therefore Allah
has made the fire forbidden for her and her linage’.6
Alī asked, ‘O Prophet of Allah, why did you call her Fātimah?’ He replied, ‘Verily Allah has
weaned her and her family away from the fire.’7 In another narration, ‘She was called Fātimah as
Allah the Exalted has weaned her and her followers from the fire’.8
There are numerous virtues and traditions collected related to Ahl al-Bayt, which according to all
the scholars are the most precious people after the Prophet .‫ صلى اهلل عليه واله وسلم‬A family household
that was perfected by the Prophet ‫صلى اهلل عليه واله وسلم‬himself, and purified from the Most Exalted,
Allah.
May Allah the Exalted show us the true love of His beloved Prophet ,‫صلى اهلل عليه واله وسلم‬his family,
and his companions.

KITÃBUT TALÃQ
DIVORCE P.1
Talãq or divorce is an extremely delicate issue. In
Islãm it is described as the most detestable of all
lawful things. Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi
Wasallam) said , “The most detestable of lawful
acts in the sight of Allah is Talãq” (Abu Dawud).
However,
despite
Talãq
being
so
abominable,
the
Shariah
has
permitted
it.
At
times,
when
the
marriage has broken
down irretrievably
precluding any hope
of reconciliation, the
best option is divorce
so that the parties
can honorably part
and
go
their
respective ways to
start afresh.
Before a marriage reaches this point, every effort
should be made to consult the Ulama and resolve
problems and impediments that may lead to
divorce. Adherence to the Laws of Shariah and
practical implementation of the Sunnah are vital
factors in any marriage for the preservation of
tranquility, harmony and love.
Despite the decisive nature of Talãq, it is
something grossly misunderstood by most
Muslims. Like any other article of Deen, it is
imperative for Muslims to learn and understand
the laws governing Talãq. Ignorance has been the
primary cause of impulsive and unintentional
divorce, resulting in heartbreak for many
couples.
What is Talaaq?
Talãq is the Islãmic equivalent of divorce. In
Islãm a man could divorce his wife by using the
words ‘Talãq’ or ‘Divorce’.
Who can issue Talaaq?
Talãq is the sole prerogative of the husband. A
woman cannot issue Talãq. If she does, it will be
ATTARBIYAH
ineffective. Once the husband issues Talãq, it
becomes binding and the wife has no choice. It
will be effective and decisive. However a woman
has the mechanism of Khula if she wishes to opt
out of the marriage.
When does Talaaq come into effect?
Once the husband addresses his wife with the
words Talãq (divorce) in such a tone that he
himself
can
hear
these words, divorce
comes into effect.
This is irrespective of
whether he uttered
them in private or in
public, whether his
wife
heard
him
uttering these words
or not. It also will not
matter whether his
utterance
was
intentional
or
unintentional or he
was joking about the
matter or uttered it in
anger. In all cases,
divorce takes place. Talãq may also come into
effect in certain situations with certain other
utterances, besides the words of Talãq or divorce.
(As will be explained soon).

Abdullah ibn 'Umar (R.A.) reported that the Messenger of

21. An important letter or a

required should be sent by
post, not with a person who

22. Think before writing a

Do
not
write
whatever you feel. Consider
the feelings of the addressee.
23. Fold the letter neatly and
insert it correctly in the
envelope. Do not insert it
carelessly in such a way that
the adhesive on the envelope

Sometimes
a

24. Do not unnecessarily
write lengthy letters. Replying
lengthy letters is onerous on
the addressee.
25. It is nonsensical and
futile to write a letter regarding
a matter which can be stated
verbally, e.g. the person
concerned resides in the

26. When sending a money

Sometimes the letter goes

O SENSELESS MAN!
A person was once left behind on the road.
He wept, saying, “Who in this desert is more
distressed than me?”
A donkey answered, “O senseless man! How
long will you complain about your fate? Go,
and give thanks that though you do not ride
upon a donkey, you are not a donkey upon
which men ride.”
Do not complain about your own misfortune
when
you
see
another who is more
in
need
than
yourself.

Palestine: Israeli settlers deface two mosques in
West Bank
(Al-Akhbar, AP)
Two mosques in a West Bank village were defaced
with racist graffiti, a local official said, marking the
latest hate crime by suspected Jewish settlers.
“Settlers came in the middle of the night and wrote
threats in Hebrew on the walls of two mosques and
slashed the tires of a car,” said Adel al-Shaer, a
councilor for Tuqua, a village east of Bethlehem.
At one site in Tuqua, the attackers scrawled: “Adele
Biton’s revenge” – an Israeli toddler injured during a
stone-throwing incident in March – and “Price tag for
throwing stones,” and drew two Stars of David around
the front entrance with the words: “Regards from
Adele,” an AFP correspondent said.
Similar slogans were tagged on another mosque in the
village.
Police spokeswoman Luba Samri confirmed details of
the attack, adding that two cars, not one, had had their
tires slashed.
Residents told Ma’an news agency that Israeli soldiers
had guarded the settlers who participated in the
vandalism. A military spokeswoman did not
immediately return a call seeking comment.
Villagers threw stones at police and troops sent to the
village to investigate the crimes, damaging some of
their vehicles, she added.
Such incidents are known as “price tag” attacks, a
euphemism for hate crimes against Palestinians by
Israeli extremists.
The attacks began in response to Israeli government
moves to dismantle settler outposts in the West Bank –
which are deemed illegal under international law – but
over the past 18 months they have targeted anyone seen
as hostile to Jewish settlers.
Perpetrators of such crimes are rarely caught.
In late March, Israel’s internal security service Shin Bet
said it had arrested five teenagers over the March 14
attack which caused a woman in a car with her three
young daughters to lose control and crash into a parked
lorry.
