That Christ Be King in Our Lives and in the Lives of Others Week of February 22-28, 2015 “Sing to the LORD; praise the LORD! For he has delivered the life of the needy from the hand of evildoers.” Jeremiah 20:13 Encounter With God Memory Verse for the Week † Services † Rector’s Message Today Columbia Baptist Chapel 8 am · Eucharist Rite 1 I am pondering if there could possibly have been any meaning in the fact that on the day before Lent began, I lost my cell phone! Yes, I truly lost it – I think it must be in a snow bank somewhere. Years ago when I saw my very first “portable” phone connected to some guy’s briefcase as he walked down K Street, I couldn’t imagine I’d ever own such a thing, and yet today life without one for even 24 hours is a genuine hardship for almost any of us. Is there some connection between Lent – a time to sacrifice some things in order to be closer to God and his people – and cellphones? Bishop O’Connell HS 9 am · Morning Prayer 11 am · Morning Prayer Wednesday Columbia Baptist Chapel 12 pm · Healing Eucharist Early Gifts Next Sun The answer could be yes if: I feel I must constantly be connected I check my messages in the morning before I have even prayed I ever feel “controlled” or “enslaved” to my phone I feel I can’t disconnect from work I am frequently distracted by my phone I pay too much for my phone I feel stressed to respond immediately to messages I become too focused on multitasking See page 2 Today: Meet the Ongukas See page 11 Reach DC 2015 See page 2 Sermon Series: Whole Life Stewardship, Part II ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ Feb 22: Stewards of Our Bodies ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ Sermon schedule on web: “Featured Events” at www.TFCAnglican.org. We especially hope that area churches of all types will send their potential prayer ministers to this training. It is 4 hours of training which will equip attendees to pray briefly for persons with general prayer requests. The second workshop, Sat, Apr 18, a week later, will be a day of more specialized teaching, hands-on training, and lots of Q and A. We’ll be teaching “how to prayer” in certain areas of healing that we’ve found to be extremely effective. Please visit our webpage for more details: www.TFCAnglican.org/specializedtraining. *Completion of training is beneficial to anyone interested in prayer ministry; however, joining any prayer ministry is at the sole discretion of that ministry’s leadership. Testimony Looking back over the blessings of 2014, I am very grateful for the opportunity I had to be present at the Journey for Healing retreat. Thank you so much for all the prayer and effort that you and the other members of the Falls Church Anglican contributed so that I and the other attendees could be so blessed. I learned a lot about healing prayer, and it will help me with my little contributions to prayer ministry in my church. I took good notes and will be referring to them regularly, and I know that the Lord was at work for my own healing needs during the retreat. Thank you so much for your assistance for my personal needs, relating to special seating. I was in an acute need for healing relating to my left leg, after a fall in September that caused a huge hematoma and then a rupture of a cyst in my knee. Slowly, it is now almost back to normal and I know the prayer was a big part of the process. Thank you and the other prayer ministers so very much.
